  • US Army Infantry Gear & Weapons from 1983 through 1991 as represented in ARMA 3, a military simulation game. This video talks about the various types of uniforms and equipment used during that time period, which was the beginning use of the PASGT system during the Cold War.
    Standard Rifle was the M16A2, with supporting weapons being the M249, M203, and M60. M81 and 6 Color Desert camouflage patterns are presented.
    Items are presented as best as possible using the limitations of the ARMA 3 game engine.
    If you would like to play ARMA 3 in a MilSim unit which values historical accuracy, please check us out. Discord: / discord

    I was in from 1986 to 1994 in the infantry. NOBODY seemed to ever use the flack jacket. Nobody called it the PASGT, either. We just called the helmet our Kevlar. Only times I can remember wearing the flack jacket was when I fired two TOW missiles.

      I think it really, really depended on the unit. Some units evidently were very, very strict on wearing the flak jacket.

    I collect late Cold War military gear like this, so I find this video extremely cool. Thank you for covering this 🙏

    Very cool. This uniform system came out after I left the Army but I was very interested in the full camo uniform since the ERTL style came out during Vietnam war years. Never got the chance to wear a full camo uniform except for a short time near the end of my tour in Nam when I had Tiger stripes. I always thought they were especially badass although I could never wear them again officially. *sigh*

      What unit were you in, if you don't mind my asking? Not many guys got to wear the tiger stripes.

    Should be noted that the 9x19mm Beretta 92FS, designated M9 in military service, began to replace the M1911A1 during this time and had all but completely replaced the latter in regular units by the early 90's, with only select units still carrying it by the time of the 1991 Gulf War.
    Also in the late 80's the US began introducing the Individual Integrated Fighting System (IIFS) to replace the old ALICE load-bearing equipment, which consisted of a series of chest rigs to allow soldiers to carry their gear on their torso instead of around their waist. The most common variant being the LBV-88 which consisted of four rifle magazine pouches holding a total of six 30-round magazines and two grenade pouches. The LBV-88 mated with a standard pistol belt via a series of loops at the bottom, which soldiers would hang extra gear on the belt such as canteens, medkits, and a pistol holster if they were authorized to carry a sidearm.

    Brings back memories . Went to Basic Training June 83, Ft, Knox. Wore those uniforms all the way up to Desert Storm.

    I honestly think of 1970ish-1982
    Og-107s and woodland camo are both nice, m1s are nice, the early 80s have a nice combo of the woodland camo and vietnam era stuff

    I have a question. Did the PASGT vest also come in the 6 color desert pattern like the helmet or did it only came with the M81 Woodland pattern?

    • @beachhead85
      @beachhead85  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There were 6 color PASGT, but they were rare. If you look at photos from early GWOT, around 2002 you can see a few of them but even then M81 was the most common.

      @@beachhead85 So they only started showing up around the beginning of the 2000s.

      @@dylanlloyd7301 They had them in the Gulf War as well, Desert Storm, but again not as widely distributed as M81.

      @@beachhead85 Oh! Well thanks. Also was there a snowy white camo uniform during that time and if so, what is it called and was it available for the PASGT helmet and vest?

    • @beachhead85
      @beachhead85  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dylanlloyd7301 Hi Dylan, they used "overwhites" which was a light fabric covering they would wear over their uniform. There was also a white cover for the PASGT helmet. Most commonly seen in cold weather exercises was just plain M81 woodland however.

    Correct me if I am wrong, but I am fairly certain that Delta Force operators were also seen wearing Pro-Tec helmets during Operation Niffty Package in Panama in 1989.

      Deltas also used those helmets into the early 90's, including Operation Gothic Serpent in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1993. They were the first so-called "bump" helmets to be used in the Special Forces community.

    Been working on a short horror story that involves soldiers set in 1986. While I'm fairly familiar with Nam era equipment and WW2, I'm severely lacking in knowledge from this time period. Funny enough I actually searched TH-cam for this exact information and never found this video, yet days later TH-cam reccomended it to me.
    Anyways thanks a ton for this, I really appreciate it. You should have a much larger sub count and reach, I'm going to my best to help out. Cheers from Finland.
