hey ben, i married (and Divorced) one of those girls you were talking about! remember meeting you a few times. if memory serves you had bleach blonde hair at the time. also remember you saying about you starting to build guitars and someday your gonna be a luthier. well fast forward a millennia and i pick up (the first time since i was a kid) a guitar magazine and low and behold there is a crimson guitar review in it, and the very same day while looking at another guys guitar building video, yours popped up!
double taking for a moment, hey i know that guy dont i? name sounds familiar, so does the accent but without the blonde locks.
as i write this ive now probably watched 40-50 of your videos (including the 6 hour build in almost one sitting) and im like wow, the kid done good! sounds odd but im kinda proud of ya :-)
man, you build some awesome works of art, i love your styling, ingenuity, ability and work ethic. also its a pleasure to watch you on camera, no pretension no bollocks and you make things fun, which is the way things should be.
you've also inspired me to want to make things, i now want to book a course with you (when i have some funding of course, bills kids etc etc).
anyway, been an absolute pleasure to watch you.
    hope you are well dude.
peace and love you and yours.
    SI

I knew your accent sounded eerily familiar, its a Zimbo accent that has faded after years and years abroad, just like mine :)
I can see where your passion came from, knowing we come from the same neck of the woods. We never did have much in Zimbabwe, always a decade or so behind the rest of the world. You learned to make do with what you had, fix, upgrade and improve with whatever you had on hand.
Much love from a fellow Zimbabwean living abroad.

I could have chosen any guitar for my last purchase with money not an issue.
I know I would not have been happier. From hundreds of choices, that I've either owned or tried out,Crimsons attention to detail ,design, and luthiers shines like the sun! I can't wait for the next one I get.

Ben, thank you for all you do. I'm a (very) amateur luthier in the US making cigar box guitars, ukuleles and cajons in my garage. You have taught me sooooo much... fretting, the superglue trick (I use CA on something every day it seems), sharpening and an appreciation of hand tools in general. I grew up around wood working, but never had an interest. Now, past the half-century mark, building and playing musical instruments brings me some joy every day. Plus, I even make a small part of my living with it. I look forward to your videos every week and always find some nugget of wisdom, a tip or a trick. Good on you and everyone at Crimson!

I am so glad I watched this video Ben. It is a pleasure to see a man who completely enjoys the craft He has chosen in life. I found your videos about a year ago and I have watched many. Amazing is a word I use! One day I hope to have a guitar made by you. To me that would be pretty dam awesome.

Nice to watch, Ben. I seem to see signs that the guitar business is starting to grow again, and I hope that's true. Thank you for your and your team's work, and I hope to see you again there, maybe next year. In the meantime, I've started (slowly) building at home!

I'm still only the master luthier of the shed at the end of my garden! Great vids by the way. I had forgotten how to properly level, re-crown and polish frets since my days at luthier college, but Ben's video on that was a great source of revision for me. I'm expecting a maple neck in the post soon for my DIY Strat and it'll probably need some leveling.

Very nice brother, I've always wanted to hear this story in it's entirety on video. All I can say is thank you Ben! I started watching your videos in 2018 and decided in January 2019 that I was going to begin building guitars pretty much inspired entirely by you and your willingness to share this info. I am now starting my own company and have just finished the GGBO 2021 as a first build. I love this and I have you to thank for it. I love your story and it mirrors mine in so many ways. Being a musician for 30 years and deciding not to pursue that anymore I've wanted to stay involved in music but not as a band member. Building is the perfect outlet for that energy and the internal need I have to create. Anyway, once again Ben, thank you for what you do! Peace and Love, Todd @ Sweet T Guitars

Amazing story Ben. As a matter of interest I grew up in Zimbabwe, now in Cape Town. Your videos are most entertaining and helpful. I have built my first two electric guitars in 2019 using solid-body design in Wild Olive (heavy!) which was awesome fun, all with carving chisels and a handsaw. Thanks for your great channel.

Good Job & keep up the good work. I for one am benefiting enormously from your knowledge and expertise. I would say I love to take things apart and then make them better than they originally were. Currently I have 4 guitars in about a thousand pieces, and with your help I just might get my vision accomplished. Along with some really cool guys like yourself that are, (without their knowledge) helping me to paint the guitars as well. So for those who have not said it....Thanks Ben!!!

Ben, I just found your channel and love what you are doing. If I lived in the UK I'd apply to work there for free! My son and I are going to be building guitars and basses using many of your techniques and many I've learned over the past near 50 years of UAV building. Thanks again for the great vid's. I'd love to see the following vids: Build a guitar with a router, electric hand drill with common bits (not purchased long ones, you can make long drill bits in the vid) and a screwdriver and spanner if needed. Next, show how long it takes to get a finish like the Mutineer's. Next, what are the minimal hand tools needed to build a guitar. Thanks again for the great vids!!!

I absolutely love your rustic creations. Quality guitars that look as though they've just been made out of stuff you have lying around, holes and all.
I have a firewood store, full of dry Ash logs and a basement full of woodworking stuff. The wood is as hard as concrete and we're struggling to burn it.
One day soon, I'm sure there is going to be a firewood guitar or maybe several. :)

Hey Ben . Your an absolute diamond and an inspiration for many . Just a bit of advice speaking from experience , dont deligate out to much and try to keep your hand in all parts if the business otherwise you can become un attached from certain aspects. Personally if it was me i would have two people doing James's job as its a alot of responsibility to put on a young lads shoulder , dont mean to sound patronising but you dont want James burning out too .

Ben, i’d like to send you a few photographs of a couple of guitars built for me by an old friend of mine, a luthier from Birmingham, Bob Whiles.
This had come about because i found out that he had passed away a couple of years ago at the age of 59 and i immediately contacted his son, Sam and after a short conversation i offered to send him some photos of my guitars made by his dad.
The acoustic was made in 1985 and was fitted with an Ashworth transducer pickup. The electric guitar was made from a full sized drawing i did, the body is made from single slab of Honduran mahogany and the neck is made from a single piece of birds eye maple which had the fingerboard sliced off it then reglued back on matching every birds eye so that the join is almost invisible.. Just thought you might be interested in a blast from the past. By the way i also designed and supplied the fittings for a BOLT on neck joint, the first one that Bob had seen or heard of, i just didn’t like screwed on neck joints so i came up with this idea, 1989.
Love to watch all that you do and am amazed at the craftsmanship
How would be best to send them to you?

hey crimson, i was wondering about zebrano wood. could you tell me if it is a good/terrible idea to make a neck out of zebrano wood? i heard that it was bad because it cracks easily, but i have seen it on acoustic guitars, and it works just fine even though it is still under load and the top wood of an acoustic is much thinner than it would be in a neck.
i recently bought a big slab of the stuff, and i really want to make a few necks with it. however, everywhere i have checked says little about it, and one source says it is unrecomended.

a doctor has your life in his hands, and would be illegal to bestow such a title upon himself..
ben has a 80K strong following. is THE best luthier tool manufacturer on the market. owns a growing business that has an increasing employee base. and has guitars sold in retail outlets in the UK. and soon to be other parts of the world
there becomes a point in ones career where he has to stop being humble about his achievements. particularly in a saturated field like guitars.
he is a master luthier. and has every right to give him self that title.

They say it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert in anything. That's a lot of dedication, and as good as any oath, He's got that much surely unless it's all some elaborate ruse to fool commenters, but I don't think so. Beg pardon Squire, I'd say he has the right to call himself what he wants.
