    Wow!! As a music teacher I can tell you not only is perfect pitch rare, but to be able to sing in perfect pitch is exceedingly rare. I wondered for a long time if she had perfect pitch. I have a piano student with the same gift. I also have a friend who sees colors associated with each pitch. Our God is amazing. Have to wonder what crazy adventure lies ahead for this sweet one!

      Kathy Shelley seeing colors associated with a note is called tone-color synesthesia. Makes the world of music more beautiful. 💕 Claire could be synesthestic. Wouldn't be surprised. Most people don't know they are until they stumble upon it.

    • @GopherwoodExpress
      @GopherwoodExpress 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      I have synesthesia and perfect pitch too. I wouldn't be surprised either if Claire has it. The tricky thing about synesthesia is describing it with words to people who don't have it. It can come off as sounding crazy sometimes, which for me already being a quiet person means I haven't told many people about it and sometimes it can be a lonely gift. But there are tests for synesthesia as well as perfect pitch that you can take if you want "proof", even just to prove it to yourself.

      Andreza Oliveira yeah that's what I thought too, she'd have to know which notes are called which way in order to call them (if she has I'm sorry I don't know this channel very well I just saw this video) but it's not impossible that she has perfect pitch, even though we don't know yet (I think) she has a very good memory as you said and as far as I can tell she's a good singer too

    I thought it was really interesting how she described your pitch as being 'one block too high' as it gives an insight as to her conceptual understanding of music. I wonder whether she would be able to transpose a song if you asked her to sing a song 'one block higher/lower' but didn't give her the backing music first? Might be a cool experiment?

    • @ronaldfrank1442
      @ronaldfrank1442 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      no, she won't be,or I'm not really that sure, check out physic girl's video about perfect pitch.
      this one guy has perfect pitch,and he can't play the one block higher note on keyboard, lol.... check it out!

    • @harmony6643
      @harmony6643 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@ronaldfrank1442 True, but that is because when playing that piano after it was re-tuned he still saw and pressed the same keys on the piano he always did.
      Basically, for instance, he saw the key E on the epiano and when he pressed it he expected to hear the note E (which is what usually happens when he presses the key E) and, thus, was confused when it didn't sound like what he'd expected to hear.
      So he wasn't transposing the piece, he was playing it using the same keys on the keyboard, it was just the keyboard that was tuned to a different key.
      This actually makes a big diference. Maybe try to imagine it like this: If you came into a dark room and pressed the light switch, you'd expect a normal, yellowish-white light to turn on, right? But if, instead, there was ... let's say red light all around, it would throw you off and distract you for a moment because you'd be wondering about why something isn't the way it usually is - and the way it is supposed to be - and therefore, for your brain, it would feel wrong.
      This is also the reason why many musicians with perfect pitch have no trouble transposing music by ear but have lots of trouble transposing while sight-reading or have trouble playing Eb- or Bb-Instruments: Because they see one note on their sheets and, by seeing it, already have an expectation as to what it will sound like, but then, when the play it, the sound they hear is a different one from the one they'd expected and already heard in their mind, which, again,seems unexpected, wrong and confusing to them.
      Also, many musicians with perfect pitch tend to focus less on the relationships BETWEEN the notes, thus the intervals and relative pitch, and more the notes themselves (excluded from one another), which it why it keeps throwing them off and why it happens more easily that they play wrong intervals while sight-reading.
      There's different kinds of musicians with perfect pitch, however: To some, transposing comes very easily, almost naturally, to others, it just feels wrong and confusing, because each pitch or key also has a distinct feeling (or personality, if you like) and playing a piece in a different key changes not only how high or low it sounds but also the overall characteristics of the piece and. It is as if fire was suddenly cold and ice warm. You automatically connect the concept of "ice" wih the concept of "cold" in your brain, so if you were to touch a block of ice, you'd expect it to feel cold and it wouldn't at all feel like ice to you if it was warm instead, even if the texture and the shape and the look and everything else stayed exactly the same. Likewise, a piece in a different key would feel completely different and maybe even weird or wrong to a musician with perfect pitch, even though everything else (the intervalls, chords, harmonics, etc). stayed exactly the same.
      Sorry for the long text ... At least I hope I could help explaining that a bit better ...

      MarsLos10 the perfect pitch they described in the video isn’t exactly the musical dictionary definition of perfect pitch. she still was flat at times, but she’ll be better as she grows and perfect pitch is entirely up to how she can name pitches from a piano or pitch pipe

    • @MarsLos10
      @MarsLos10 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ryley Douglass I guess she eventually will learn the names of the pitches and as she grows up she will develop her gift more and more, to the point where she will be as Dylan Beato (check him out), or if she doesn't care about pitches' names, she can still hear a note and say "that's how this song starts".

      She obviously has perfect pitch. A person with perfect pitch is able to hear the correct chromatic note, regardless of which octave the note is sung/played in. People with this special ability hear songs very differently than normal people. Normal people hear the song and think it is cute, they hear the song and are able to hear the exact notes.

    For anyone who may be wondering, perfect pitch is NOT the ability to sing perfectly on key. You may be able to do that but that doesn’t mean you have perfect pitch. Perfect pitch is the ability to name what key a song is being played/sung in and also to be able to name individual notes and chords by ear. This is speaking from my experience as someone who has it. I cannot sing perfectly on key but I do have perfect pitch!

    • @bradbrad247
      @bradbrad247 6 ปีที่แล้ว +135

      PianoDiva24 perfect pitch is actually defined as the ability to recognize or reproduce any pitch heard. It's also sometimes referred to as absolute pitch. One does not need to have every chord/note memorized or be able to name them to have perfect pitch. One also does not need to be able to reproduce pitches perfectly. So long as one can do either or both of these things it is considered perfect (or absolute) pitch.

    • @pamelamason530
      @pamelamason530 6 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      I agree with the bradbrad reply. You can be able to reproduce and identify pitches by sound, but you might not be able to name that something is in E major or that the note I’m playing is a Bb/A# if you haven’t learned Western music notation.

    • @PianoDiva24
      @PianoDiva24 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Pamela Mason true. Though if you have taken music lessons, then a staple of having perfect pitch is the ability to name keys and notes by ear.

    According to statistics 1 in 10,000 have absolute (perfect) pitch. I have perfect pitch and because I am an adult and trained musician I can tell you the note name of any note played. When I remember the pitch of any song it tends to be that I mentally made a note of the name of the key that I identified the last time I heard it. Then I use that knowledge to recall the correct pitch. What is amazing about this girl is that she remembers the pitch without having the technical knowledge to explain it. That is phenomenal memory. That is what amazes me the most as well as having perfect pitch. (She also has a lovely voice and seems like a lovely girl and has a great relationship with her dad.)

      Amy Chidley My nephew remembers every song in the exact pitch too. I can even play a B Major chord and tell him to sing a song I know is in F Major and he does it without blinking. He has no musical training. Very mysterious to me. My brain doesn't remember songs in original keys. It usually transposed to whatever key I'm currently in how high I feel like singing.
