      Oh really? What games can a GTX 980 run at 1440p with only 4gb of VRAM? Please enlighten me. Definitely not any demanding games, or even slightly demanding. E-sports titles maybe. But the GTX 980 was never a 1440p card even when it was new. And it definitely is not now.

    • @yan3066
      @yan3066 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@yeetus59 I'm pretty sure the last forza horizon 5 can be played with decent settings at 1440p. Apex Legends off course. Any game that doesn't require much more than the Vram of that card. You would be surprise how some people can run big games with older hardwares. Ultra settings is so demanding compared to let's say a mix of medium-high settings, and you still have that eye-candy. I usually buy myself a new pc every 5 years or so, and even my older pcs can run games at decent settings and resolutions.
      Take care.

The GDDR6 1650 comes close to the slowest RX 570s but still mostly loses. And the 8GB RX 570 can be overclocked and BIOS-modded into being faster than both the 1650S and RX 580. That's what I did with mine and I'm really glad I got it for half the price of a 1650S back in 2020. Having 8GB of VRAM really helps a lot in games from the last 4 years.

And 4 owners later, after 8 and a half years of constant use, it's still alive and kicking. I will probably try to get it back a some point as a memento.

      I will never get tired of recommending new people to older graphics cards, period. You only even need a brand new GPU for brand new games running at 4k anyway. I pretty much can't think of needing anything above a 1080ti for any brand new games, period. A 1080ti should run Cyberpunk all ultra 1080p, maybe not full 60 but still run it well. So for like 96% of games you are only even going to need a GTX 980 and like a, overclocked 2600k or a i7 3770 or something like that. Even at 1080p you can pretty much get by on less than $300 to game an enjoyable experience. It's solely for 4k kiddies being bougie with a $700 graphics card. I mean even 1440p the 5700XT fell to $200 now and that card can do most games at QHD, and the GTX 980 being at half that price on ebay makes it a fantastic consideration for all DirectX11 games at 1080p. It's really down to that or the RX 580/590 I think in terms of great value graphics cards.

      Yeah, I really miss when GPU makers were more honest and just said what the performance was going to be, no nonsense about these muh features, no lying about performance by talking about upscaling as if it mattered for most games (devs need to hard code it in like raytracing, it isn't a magic performance button, it comes at the cost of visuals and even then only is available on a few dozen games)

    • @pandemicneetbux2110
      @pandemicneetbux2110 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I was just watching something on another channel where they tested a 980 on newer games and the thing actually ran cyberpunk. I was astounded. I mean it was still getting drops into 25 fps once in awhile that was almost certainly due to running out of VRAM, but overall it was still hitting the low 40s fps which is pretty playable, maybe screw with the settings more and you can play Cyberpunk smoothly-ish on a 980, and if you can get Cyberpunk to work, you can get anything to work. Well unless it has DirectX 12/2 API. I haven't tested Vulkan either.

    I just let go of a GTX 980 pc I built in 2014. For the time I got out of it and the headaches I put up with from the fx 8350 in the build I think it served me very well over the years. The build sported the gtx 980, fx 990 mobo, 16gb ddr3, fx 8350 BE and 1 tb hdd with a 1tb ssd. It even had the good old disc drive. Aside from thermal paste and regular cleaning it served us very well. The last games played on it were Elden Ring and Hogwarts as recently as last night. The new owner picked it up for a nifty £150 which, all considering, was a steal for a very well maintained pc that had all the boxes/manuals and even the stickers for all the components. I personally wont miss it as I think the 1080ti has dropped to a very reasonable price for budget gamers and it wont set anyone back a mint. Im sure that ASUS TUF sticker will do the new owner a good turn 🤣

      You know I think that, while far from ideal for a number of reasons, probably the biggest limiter to the 980 can be gotten around by simply SLI'ing it but then again I guess that kind of defeats the point when now you're running a 324w 2 card system that costs probably $200 at minimum and then it's really easy just to compare it to the 225w 5700XT 8gb at that point anyway than get an enthusiast grade 2-way SLI to getting 2x4gb of memory. Which I guess back in the day nVidia's bad VRAM could be compensated for more easily by...just wasting your money an additional GPU you hadnt needed lel. Idk I think 980ti SLI is a monster in terms of TDP but it could do better than one 1080ti iirc it's just that, well you'd needed a couple grand to spend on 2x80ti cards, you'd needed over 510w dedicated just to GPU solution, and you'd needed a case with airflow/fans to match.
      But, it does always strike me as really neat just from that nerdy enthusiast type of perpsective. I never could've ever afforded it back then, and so I kinda want my redcar computer, you know? Like take an old 980, and then get myself a 3770k board with overclocking potential to stick another 980 on it and see if it can perform at close to 1080 or better.

    Here's an idea. What about pairing the GPU's you have, with some of those pre-built, HP/Dell systems, etc!
    And if you have an external GPU dock, you could try the GPU's out with those SFF factor PC's, like some of the BLINK systems, for instance. Look, I don't comment often, or as much as I should. You're a good guy. You deal with the budget items, and that helps folks out. On that note, old Xeon systems can be awesome, for gaming and production.
    Another video idea, if you have a 980, a 1080, and even a 2080, would be cool to see a comparison. Hell, you could add in a 1060, 1050Ti, 1050, and 1030!
    Look, I believe the problem is with the consumer. Too many folks think that as soon as something new comes out, their tech is now all of the sudden rendered useless! This is not the case! And you show that to folks. Thanks for what you do for people. You're a good man. o7

    These Cards overclock really well . 1500 Mhz core + 500 mhz Dram is no Problem without Bios editing which was able at the Time. You can get 15 - 20 % more Performance for free which was nice.
