IDK. It has never occurred to me that this song would be scary. I always found it relaxing and beautiful.

I can take it two ways. One is a creepy dream where Snoopy ventures too far in the rain and got lost and one where I fall asleep and peacefully explore my inner consciousness then wake up feeling refreshed.
Riders on the storm, into this house were born, into this world were thrown, like a dog without a bone an actor out on loan, riders on the storm. Nope, nothing creepy there, check! :)
@@loadedorygun He may be talking about the children of the fallen angels who got taken out by the flood . Their physical bodies were killed by the flood but it released their souls from thier bodies because they are eternal , and they rode the storm out .
I think this is their one song that can be classified as a absolute masterpiece.

I’m quite familiar with the Doors and have been a fan of theirs for 50+ years. I feel that while they have many classics, this is the one that transcends all of their other songs.
This song is a great piece of true American art. Poetry to music.

This is the last song they recorded together. All of them were barely speaking to each other and Jim could barely stand. Which makes it even more impressive on how well it turned out and became one of their greatest hits. Who knew Jim would be dead a few months later? RIP Jim.
Not at all creepy, but very atmospheric, like many Doors songs. Among their very best.
Yeah, I guess… if you’re totally comfortable with a killer on the road whose brain is squirming like a toad… Ive hitch hiked a few times and I’ve picked up a few hitch hikers… all back in the 70’s I’ll add… it’s always a bit of a risk, on either side, you have no idea what might happen. Two of those happened in the midst of horrendous blizzards, I might have saved some lives, then again, I could have been killed. The thunderstorm here creates quite a dark and possibly desperate scene… yeah, it creeps me out that there’s a killer on the road.

Idk man. You should listen to "The Hitchhiker" on An American Prayer. It's definitely about killing someone as a hitchhiker. Jim even does the voice lines for a phone call for his screenplay where he says he gets picked up and kills someone as a hitchhiker.

The keyboard solo is iconic
The oddest, creepiest Doors song was definitely "Horse Latitudes". Still can't listen to that without getting goosebumps at its frantic crescendo. Happy Hallowe'en all!

Jim Morrison was a terrific front man but damn he really had 3 great musicians backing him up. Manzarek was awesome in every song they ever recorded-the drums and great bass line are fantastic in this song.

Riders was the last song on the last album LA Woman (and my favorite Doors album), released a few weeks before Jim Morrison died in Paris under suspicious circumstances at the age of 27.

I arrived in this world back in 1950, so I was in my teens during the 1960s. The 60s are sometimes referred to as "The 1960's Decade of Change" not only for the music (Music Explosion) but for several other changes and events, which in some ways influenced or interacted with other changes that were occurring. So, if you are just starting to listen to the music from the 60s and 70s you are missing a lot of the culture during this time. I am in my 70s now and TH-cam has provided me with the enjoyment of listening to the music from this error. I would also like to suggest listening to the music from before the 1960s and learn to understand how music evolved. Sometimes I wished I had a time machine so I could transport some of those that posts reactions to musical groups and performers to this time period, so you can experience all of the changes and events that occurred.
The song is based on Billy Cook, the spree=killer who murdered 6 people including a young family while hitchhiking.
Scary movies often use "Toccata and Fugue in D minor", by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Manzarek's keyboard magic really shines here! The song partly relates to the random 'thrown-ness' of human experience.
When this record was hot, the Manson murders were all anyone talked about in SoCal. "Riders" had a special piquancy because of it.
This was two years after the Manson murders one year after the trial.
A song that will give you chills is D.O.A. (1971) by Bloodrock, a band out of Ft Worth, TX. Check out the Bloodrock 2 album version. I promise you won't forget it.

I never pass up a hitch-hiker. I have hitch-hilked all over the wester US and in Mexico. It ia an experience that rounds out a life lived to the fullest. Yes, Janet I still think of you and the girl who we never exchanged names still holds a special place in my heart.

imho--the 'scariest' songs are the theme musical scores from iconic scary movies and they are all instrumental. i.e from twilight zone; psycho and halloween to name but a few
what a great mood song, they also did The End which is I believe their creepiest song. Echos by Pink Floyd is also trippy/freaky or Enter the Sandman by Metallica (be sure and do the Live at Moscow version if you do, over a million attended it was right after the berlin wall came down and the end of the soviet union as we knew it

When I was a teenager in the early 70s,I used to go cruising in the night under a full moon in my little 65 American Rambler convertible...top down,just listening and driving to this song down the river road.The moonlight on the river was amazing!

First, thank you for this reaction. I have loved this song since I heard it for the first time through my cheap little am clock radio that I listened to late into the night when I was 10-13 years old, probably from WLS Chicago or KOMA Oklahoma City radio stations. Now, and I understand that it's too late for Halloween but oh, well, but if you want creepy, like, seriously creepy, I have a suggestion for you. This is not a good song, it's a creepy song. If you listen to it, expect creepy, don't expect to like it. It's called D.O.A., and it's by a band called Bloodrock.
Again, not presenting this as a good song, but as a creepy song. It's not vulgar, or sexual in any manner, it's about an airplane accident, and it's creepy as all heck. I'd be interested in your reaction, but wouldn't be surprised if you pass it by. Oh, also as a by-the-way, if you do a lot more music of The Doors on your channel, you can always be guaranteed at least my eyes on the video, and a like for every song. The Doors are one of the bands and other musical artists that sit atop my pile of loved music and treasured performers.
Glad I was young and had music blasting in my Chevy Z28 before 3 million Hip Hop/Rap songs came out that literally all have one of Three Beats and maybe two Melodies with garbled Lyrics

Not a xylophone...all electric piano! Many people called this rock music...I call it jazz or jazz fusion...it's more a groove or funky than a rock style. One of the finest piano solos/parts ever recorded.
The End by the Doors might have been a more fitting choice.

If you still want creepy vibes music to react to by any chance, Alice Cooper's "I Love the Dead" and "The Ballad of Dwight Fry", Black Sabbath's "Black Sabbath" and Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper" and "Astronomy". As for The Doors "End of the Night", "Not To Touch the Earth" and "Strange Days" are kind of creepy.

Ooh, even though it's my favourite Doors album, it could be a bit strong for the uninitiated. The album itself was produced after Jim's "death" and it can be quite hard to hear where Jim ends and Ray starts. Great poetry though.

One of the best "driving" songs. Just don't pick up any hitch hikers, especially if it's raining. One scary suggestion would be Helter Skelter by The Beatles if it won't get blocked.
