I feel so blessed to have grown up in the 50's 60's 70's and 80's.. Music now days just can't compare..The Doors and Hollies were two of my favorite bands.
I agree totally, one of my favorites- Ray Manzarek, was classically trained pianist who could play all keyboards, he was great at blues piano etc, Robby Krieger started as a flamenco guitarist , a fingerpicker who could play slide, blues, jazz etc., and John Densmore the drummer had a jazz background, that together they could create some unique sounds!!
One of my all time favorite songs. It takes you out of your mind and on a journey. You can see the rain falling on the high desert. Jim was obviously a mega star, but Manzarek was a musical genius.

Amazing how many people don't pick up the whispers or the door slamming shut. I had a kick-ass sound system in my car, once upon a time.... music sounded amazing. I will swear upon my death, the best way to hear music is a stellar car audio system. to hear everything as intended YOU must be centered in the speaker range. Hmm, I'm kind of hard core only because I've experienced the differences and limitations of home audio. Ear phones are the next best thing. The difference between ear phones and car audio (other than the obvious) is spatial. Car audio gives you the spatial... ie; you can better pin point where an instrument is coming from, as if on stage. Does that make sense?

Yeah Doors! Great song, great reaction. Love the way Ray Manzarek tickles those keys man. Absolutely iconic. And you are 100% on the money man with the idea of doors of perception. Glad to see another "Doors of Perception" fan. Their songs often contained nicely fleshed out multiple solos that threaded and meandered their way in and out in the most delightful ways, never showoffy, but rather, to serve the vibe...and although the music was very rockin' and bluesey, it was often dark, trippy and philosophical...which I really dig.

This is a brilliant mood piece: sultry vocals, keys like raindrops, classic spooky tremolo effect on the guitar, and a swinging jazzy groove on the drums. Jim whispering a vocal behind his singing is genius, so creepy, like the hitcher's whispering in your ear. The 3rd verse doesn't have the same narrative, wish he'd hit us with a killer (literally) verse there, but hey, it's still very cool. I guess you could say the 'gotta love your man' lines have a kinda link, in that you never know what might be around the corner, so make sure the ones you love know that you do.
