  • Mount Kailash, located in western Tibet, is one of the most sacred places in the world. Its striking, pyramid-shaped peak stands at 6,638 m(21,778 ft) above sea level bordered by the Kramkurng Himalaya ranges. But what makes it truly unique is not its height or appearance but also its deep spiritual meaning it holds for millions of people. Unlike other famous mountains, no one has ever climbed to the Top of Mount Kailash.
Mount Kailash is considered sacred by four major religions : Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and the Bon Faith. For Hindus, it is the home of Lord Shiva , the powerful god who meditates at its summit. Buddhists believe it to be Mount Meru, the center of the universe and a place of great spiritual energy. For Jains, this is where their first teacher, Rishabh deva, reached enlightenment. The Bon people, who follow an ancient region of Tibet, see it as the seat of their spiritual world. Because of its sacred nature, climbing the mountain is Forbidden. Instead pilgrims can walk around it.This journey is called “ kora” and is believed to be a deeply spiritual act. Walking the 52-kilometer(32 mile) path around the mountain is to cleanse a person’s sins and bring blessings Many Pilgrims take this journey on foot, often braving the high altitude and challenging terrain to complete their sacred task
A highlight of the Kailash Yatra is the opportunity to bathe in the holy lake Manasarovar. This Lake, regarded as one of the holiest lakes in the world and is believed to purify the soul and offer spiritual peace to those who take a dip in its sacred waters.Pilgrims can perform the pujas and meditation by the lake , seeking the blessing and the divine grace.
Mount Kailash sits in a remote and rugged area of Tibet and near the mountain there are two beautiful lakes which are Lake Mansarovar which is said to be sacred and represent the purity and the lake Rakshastal, often called the “ demonic” lake because of its salty, lifeless waters.
The harsh environment and high altitude make visiting Mount Kailash a challenge, but those who make the journey often say the effort is worth it. The peace, beauty and the spiritual energy of this place leave a lasting impression on visitors.
Pilgrims also cross several other significant landmarks during the journey, including the keyring waterfall and the Brahmaputra river at Saga. The path is dotted with the old Tibetan villages, monasteries and ancient shrines, offering travelers the glimpses of the rich culture and tradition of Tibet. The best time to undertake the Kailash Yatra is between April-September , when the weather is most suitable for the journey. During this period, thousands of the pilgrims make their way to Kailash and are eager to experience the magic and the holiness of one of the world’s most sacred mountains.
