0:40 -2:00 .... Let me point out: Whitney's vocals were indeed damaged at this time... BUT she never lost her God given musical gift...her EAR. People often say Whitney was the 'VOICE'... but I really think her deeper gift was her 'ear', her musical instincts. I notice it as well as a profesional musician and singer myself, that is whh she use to make the choral arrangement of the background vocals herself many times. Here she knows she is not going to hit the not so she harmonize perfectly like an instrument, things that people usually don't notice
@@EdmundSookermany Exactly... Whitney's understanding of vocal melody and order is for me her greater skill...she definitely inherited this from her mother. i absolutely love whitney, she is my favourite singer, but the thing is here she went a little overboard. If you take out the music-back up vocals what she is singing has actually nothing to do with all at once, which was and is a soft and sweet song with proper power applied when needed, at least that's how whitney originally did it and it was amazing. Knowing how whitney sang live i get that some times she tends to mix the songs up a little, put a little more soul than in the studio version, going maybe a little bit down the gospel music path. But the thing is she almost always did that amazingly, alwaysgiving something different, a different feeling, but here it's really what i said before, if you leave it to just what she sings, the melody of her voice and tone it has nothing to do with all at once. It kind of reminds me of when she sang Amazing grace back in 1994 in south africa i think. It's not that i disliked these 2 performances, but they are the only ones i actually feel weird about (and i have watched countless whitney videos). She wasn't awesome for sure, nor terrible though, i just would have prefered it if she stayed more to the song. But anyway, that's why we love whitney, i hate singers trying to sound the same in live as they do in studio, if fans want to just hear the singer sing they can put a cd on, lives should have something more. whitney made every live a unique experience.
i understand she never did sing her songs the same way again and again, she always did put a different feeling to them and through the years they've changed. I'm also aware of some versions after this time but this is the only one that sounds "off" to me. The thing with Whitney is that she couldn't or maybe didn't have the time to think how she could change the way she sings to how her voice had become. It's clear in many videos of NBL tour that she tried to do songs the way she did them 15-20 years ago, but whether we like it or not her voice changed in these years, meaning she couldn't do these things any longer. Don't get me wrong, i really loved her voice of that time too, but not when she tried to force her voice to do things her younger voice did.
+RamajX She's been performing this version since 1990, actually. She composed it into what she would call her "Love melody" which consisted of All at Once, Where do broken hearts go, All the man I need, Saving all my love and Didn't we almost have it all (not in order but you get it.)
I'm familiar with her "Love Medley". She recorded All at Once for her first album, so she'd be singing this song for years. In the 80's and early 90's, she sang this song as a lush ballad with a bigger production. In the mid 90's, she started singing a dramatically more simplistic rendition in which she crooned over the backup singers, usually seated the whole time. Can you tell me a performance from 1990 where she sat and crooned while the backup singers did most of the singing? (I'm not trying to sound like a smart-ass, I'd actually like to know)
RamajX For starters, her Brunei tour in 1996. Another would be her 10-date tour of Taipei, Japan in 1997, in support of her then new movie album/soundtrack "The Preacher's Wife". She would do this as well in Germany 1998 (before her My love is your Love tour). She stopped singing the Love medley after her 1997-1998 tour and just used "Saving all my love" and "Until you come back" as two of her "classics".
poor poor whitney. she shouldn't be doing a tour. her voice could probably do special venues...one or two songs here and there....but to go on tour with her voice in this condition is HORRIBLE. she destroyed the greatest vocal cords ever to have existed, in my opinion....and thats ok. we all make mistakes. she needs to accept for what it is, though. another few years of sobriety and MAYBE her voice will be ready. here's to hoping...
^but for some sane people, drugs are NEVER a choice. no matter how depressed they are or crazy their lives are. whitney houston should be glad that she survived drugs. but her voice didnt.
No matter how big a fan you are of Whitney, it was a tragic mistake by her or her management team (or both) to send her out on the road sounding and singing like this. This is absolute garbage and the fans should've demanded their money back. Vocally and artistically, she was in top form up until 2000. After that, the cracks became more widespread and visible.
+Maurice Rivers Her voice started to go away for me in 1992. The apparent vocal registration problems were becoming a huge issue (something her contemporary Natalie Cole expressed in her book and later would show when she would perform a tribute for Ms. Houston during her BG era). She had developed a nasal tone in her middle lower registers and she would do more "melismas" to hide the fact she couldn't sustain higher pitches (E5 to G5) without straining or losing her breath.
+deadwalke You are dead right. It was during the "Bodyguard" years that Arista started working her harder than ever, with tours and concerts back-to-back. She had no chance to rest, because promoting the movie became a full-time job within itself. I read somewhere that this was time period in which she developed nodules on her throat, which you referenced above. Apparently, she told Chaka Khan than she was scared to have them removed, in case the surgery took away her singing voice permanently. For me, 80% of anything she sung after her role in "Cinderella" with Brandy was not worth listening to.
Maurice Rivers I'm going to be honest with you while the voice may not have had it's youthfulness (1983-1988) nor the consistency but it had a much improved lower range, her chest voice was much fuller and consistent (despite apparent vocal problems in her top register.) She learned how to better appropriate her lack of vocal stability for more emotion. Her 10-date tour in Taipei, Japan shows her voice in GREAT shape (better than her 1998-2000 YLIML era or even better than her IYBT-BG era.) 1997 was a magical year with only ONE bad performance (the Second day in Washginton, DC which was taped for a live special on HBO.) Cinderella's "Music in You" is just so magical in so many ways. The nuances of her voice came together so beautifully in that one project.
Management didn’t care about Whitney. They only cared about money and sent her out like a lamb to the slaughter. 😞 This performance doesn’t definitely Whitney. She had given the world more than enough of herself and god given talent. Miss you Nippy ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh my God, you're COUGHING while singing. STOP singing song like this until your voice is well recovered. they used to be easy songs for you but now if you push yourself to sing them, your voice will never sound good again. Let it rest. We can wait. We will always support you.
its almost as if she FORGOT how to sing!?!?...when you are vocally gifted as she IS / WAS...you should know what key to sing in...its as if she STILL believes she has the Voice of her prime and is contiuning to sing the songs as they were arranged back then when her voice was a phenomenon.....is her music director and background singers scared to tell her the truth??...i love whitney houston...and i care for her so where i wouldnt want her to embarrass herself..
Wow. She is struggling here, older, overweight, and voice shot. She was trooper however and the show went on. Sad that she lost her life and voice to drugs.
@Spinprovisation If you love her, you should let her rest. Don't you see what happened. I always love Whitney but her voice is too weak now. It MUST be rested. Whitney don't have to push her voice just because of foolish one like you. I will never be angry at her if she sound too bad, I'm just worry about her and her health.
Stop talking through the songs and SING THEM.. THE MORE SHE USES THE MUSCLE THE BETTER IT WILL GET.. I feel bad for her..though.. those drugs did a number on her.. I do pray she will get better.. but it angers me when she talks through a song..
I am a big Whitney fan - but that is just embarrassing to watch. The songs sound nothing like the originals - the only singing done is by her backing singers!! She should never have toured and we should have just remembered her the way she WAS. Her voice is deep and croaky - because of the drug abuse. no doubt. I've got tickets to see her in London in April - I just know it's going to be a let down - shame, coz I really love her - but I think she's had her day
people praising the addict in this video should have their ears checked. she was talksinging, cracking, and dodging all the high belts. she has PERMANENTLY ruined her legacy with this tour and inferior, inferior vocals.
you can see how much pain she carried inside and how much memories she goes through in mind - that hurts me even more - I will always love you
I ,am feeling pain lord I wonder if the Lord charges people for the pain they cause you my lord am crying 😭 for her oh God such a wonderful soul

Miss you Nippy ❤️❤️❤️❤️
she was awsome and u need to get a life more than a doctor
what was so awesome? she was screaming notes while constantly cracking and losing her voice.
This is painful to watch.
check your ears too, wash them, maybe they are dirty
Sad, her voice had gone but not her musical habilities to harmonize
Thats just it, SHE CANT OUT SING HERSELF >>>>>>> YET
Oh my God, you're COUGHING while singing. STOP singing song like this until your voice is well recovered. they used to be easy songs for you but now if you push yourself to sing them, your voice will never sound good again. Let it rest. We can wait. We will always support you.
I said so? Hahaha
She struggled to get thru this
its almost as if she FORGOT how to sing!?!?...when you are vocally gifted as she IS / WAS...you should know what key to sing in...its as if she STILL believes she has the Voice of her prime and is contiuning to sing the songs as they were arranged back then when her voice was a phenomenon.....is her music director and background singers scared to tell her the truth??...i love whitney houston...and i care for her so where i wouldnt want her to embarrass herself..
Yes they were scared of her. She could be out of control.
Wow. She is struggling here, older, overweight, and voice shot. She was trooper however and the show went on. Sad that she lost her life and voice to drugs.
she's on drugs????
It's worse than the last days of Judy Garland - tragic on so many levels - mostly musical. She should really just stop.
Why she lost her golden voice?
Who cares about the young singers.... She can't compare the Barbara, Donna, Aretha, Linda... you kids are so sickening...
This is horrible!!!!!!! Omg. I feel so bad for her.
STOP MAN ... PLEASE
I am a big Whitney fan - but that is just embarrassing to watch. The songs sound nothing like the originals - the only singing done is by her backing singers!! She should never have toured and we should have just remembered her the way she WAS. Her voice is deep and croaky - because of the drug abuse. no doubt. I've got tickets to see her in London in April - I just know it's going to be a let down - shame, coz I really love her - but I think she's had her day
she is just sickening !
Jesus Christ , how bad has she got???
people praising the addict in this video should have their ears checked. she was talksinging, cracking, and dodging all the high belts.
she has PERMANENTLY ruined her legacy with this tour and inferior, inferior vocals.
A legacy like her can never be ruined as she still breaking records in 2020
You gotta be kiddn'. She sounds awful.
