K24 MR2 Spyder FBO Dyno | Part 1

  • After completing full bolt-on mods to the NA Spyder, I got it to the dyno. Ron and crew ‪@Autosauce‬ were awesome, but disaster struck! The voltage dropped during power pulls due to a bad alternator. The head is the weak link, but this setup should be capable of 15-20 more whp. Looking forward to a follow-up dyno session and getting some final numbers!

    2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder
    JDM K24A Longblock, RBB-1 Head
    Type-S Oil Pump
    Skunk2 Pro Intake Manifold
    Skunk2 Pro 70mm Throttle Body
    Drag Cartel Drop-In Cams (DIC)
    50 degree VTC with 40 pin
    Custom 3 inch Intake
    1320 Performance 4-2-1 Header
    Custom 2.5" to 3" Exhaust
    RDX 410cc Injectors

    Nice car! Cool swap! I had a 2zz mr2 Spyder once. A k series mr2 spyder probably rips!

      Definitely rips! The k24 with fbo is a nice leap over the 2zz.

    Nice mr2 watching your videos making me miss mine, my mr2 at a shop getting k24 swap but having issues. Car starts but dies 15sec no matter what. Did you hammer in the firewall prior to installing the swap?

      I did, keeps the alternator and big intake manifold from making contact. 15 seconds sounds like maybe an ECU problem or something wrong in the wiring harness.

    @10:25 small aluminum brace at the bottom needs to be removed to fit properly.

      I think the part you're referring to needs to be removed for AC Compressor clearance.

    What exhaust manifold is that? Love the look of it. Close to done with my own K24 ZZW30. Also, what ECU are you using?

    The autozone type alternators always give problems on the k series. If you can source an oem route you will be better off. And also if you have the type s pump, why not spin this to 8k?

      I've heard the same from a mechanic friend. The plan is to set the redline about 200 above peak power, hoping 8400ish.

      Yeah, mine lasted over 5000 miles. It was touching the firewall though.
