    I purchased my P 228 in 1993. It's 30 years old this year and all original. I retired it and purchased a Sig P 229 in S&W 40 to use as my home defense firearm. As you said, the Sig is a great firearm.

      Now,all the sauer pistols will be produced only in the usa,so it is like rolls-_royce produced in africa. You can use the most modern CNC,but you will never have a " german spirit in weapon production".

    I like the Heinie Figure 8 Ball-on-Ball Sights you’ve got. I used to have the same, until I did the SIG upgrade and realized they’d replaced the sights as well.
    I absolutely shot better with the Heinie Sights and still have the parts; you should never replace yours!
    My P-228 is also West German-made. I did get a “wolf-barrel” plus a “metal guide rod,” to replace the original plastic one, and the added weight and durability is a great plus!
    The factory-installed SRT (“Short-reset Trigger”) is also superb! As impressive as the Walther PPQ’s trigger is, my Sig is the first firearm I bought and will always be my go-to solution for urban carry.
    Your trigger seems to be a DAO(“double-action only”), or more likely a Double-Action Kellerman.
    Mine is DA/SA, which is what I prefer for to SA in Condition 1, as much as I love the 1911’s and Browning Hi-Power models.
    I also have a lot of respect for the HK45 and how its gas system really sets it apart, but the P-228 would be my first choice among the Wonder 9’s: It is what I trained on and train with and have conditioned myself to, in terms of grip angle, bore axis and trigger control.
    Take care of your P-228 and don’t ever sell it! The new M-11 is actually a P-229 in 9mm, if I recall, so they just don’t make it like the way they used to!

    I ordered a K-Kote w/ Sig Tritium inserts back in 99 - had the same 10 round mags. I was able to track down Sig 13 round mags but they were pricey. After the purchase, I ordered walnut grips, but later replaced them with the Crimson Trace grips. If I recall, the FBI was issuing the 228 at that time. My favorite range pistol by far. Thanks for the video.

    My favorite in my collection as well. It goes with me just about everywhere. No others I own are built like it. Mine is a triple serial, 1996 German manufactured. Looks to be in the exact same condition as yours. Have the german test target as well. I traded a p225A1 for it a couple years ago. Guy gave me 5-13rd mags with it. I also picked up a couple of the mec-gar 15 rd. Best trade I've made to date and I will never let it go.

    Came across your video just now. I have a 226 and 228 that I purchased in 1986 in Burbank, CA. Both are made in West Germany. The 228 only has around 300 rounds through it, so it is like new. The 226 maybe has 500 rounds through it. I have the original receipts. Great history and I love them. My 228 has original 13 round magazines, the 226 is 15 rounds.

    I picked up an Astra A100 recently. They're made by Spain for the state police force. They are identical to the P228 in almost every way, the take down lever and the notch in the slide are both on the right side. Also it has a slightly more pronounced beaver tail and the hammer tang is shaped a bit different. But, it uses P228 "E2" 15-rd magazines and I'd be willing to bet some of the internals as well. Maybe a bit of fitting would need to be done, but you get the idea. I payed $300 for it. It's nickle plated with black plastic grips. And it's heavy. I believe the frame is stainless steel. They were made from 1990 - 2006. Mine is a 2005 and I don't think it ever went into service. It's as new as new can be. The fella I bought it from didn't know it was a P228 clone and didn't know about the magazine compatibility. So Yay for me! Anyway, thanks for the video.

    Tengo una P 228 w. Germany.
    Simplemente una fascinante pistola para mí trabajo diario...✌️

    I bought one exactly like yours. A friend in the Secret Service was issued a 228. Another friend, a New Castle County police men showed me his saying that it was state of the art. Enough for me. I purchased mine right after the newer one with the billet slide came out. (Senior moment , 238 maybe). I only paid $500 for it. I guess the salesman thought that it was obsolete. 😂. I also have a 239. Nice gun but top heavy compared to the 228. Nice tip on the Magur mags. I have 4 originals though. Bought 2 extra when the senile senator from California was trying to ban “high capacity magazines”. She’s finally on her way to the old age home now.

    Very cool. I want one of these. Even the plastic cases look like they are better made. ; ) Just curious, do you feel that this technology is dated in view of the progress in the polymer 9mm's out there like the Glock and Walther PPQ and similar?

    • @great_deception
      @great_deception 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Technology on this gun is state of the art, even today. When Sig came out with the P220, they invented the modified-Browning action. During the era, many guns (1911, CZ75, BHP) used a traditional Browning lockup with locking lugs in the slide and a non-tilting barrel. Sig decided they could improve on this for 2 reasons: ease of manufacturing and ease of diassembly. Most handguns specifically Glock, Sig, FN, and some HK use the same lockup pioneered with the P220 and is not common today. As far as quality, this gun was among the best. Some people may be turned off by the DA/SA but that is like saying someone who drives an auto cannot drive a manual well. It all depends on the person and training. Metal-framed does soak up recoil better that a poly gun though. This gun is just a Swiss watch.

      The P228 shown is in fact German made and assembled. It has the German proof marks on the frame and slide from what I noticed. It was manufactured in 1997. I didn't notice if it had the proof marks on the barrel. These are still valuable on the used market because they are considered true made in Germany pistols. But the ones that say Made in West Germany are more desirable (cost more). • @sgav8r
      @sgav8r  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      dunebuggysand oreos I have no idea WHY, but they don't. One reason could be their transition to American manufacturing. It's long been known that German-made Sig pistols are "better" than their American-made counterparts, which is why the German Sigs generally have higher resale value. Also could be the volume they do now. Sig has grown a lot since when this pistol was made and perhaps QC has slipped a little thru the process. In any case no one can really deny the fact that modern Sig guns simply aren't built as well as they used to be.

Would you recommend just getting a P229 NOT the Legion, or is the 228 very different? I would prefer the older, exact one you have but cannot find it ANYWHERE!! @sgav8r Great video by the way, Only makes me want one that much more lol.

    • @Laotzu.Goldbug
      @Laotzu.Goldbug 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it's a little bit different. They're technically isn't a u.s. made p228. There is a u.s. P229 or USM 11 a one. The main differences between the US version and the West German version are the external extractor on the first, and the fact that the US version uses a one piece, machined stainless steel slide. The old German versions have a carbon steel slide, with append in stainless steel breech block. Those guns probably have legendary craftsmanship, and might even have better triggers and so on, but due to simple Material Science, the one piece slides are stronger and more durable, especially if you're going to be shooting lots of + P or +P+ loads.
