  • Myself my son Dafydd and his dog "Llew" ,forage at a beach on Carmarthen Bay in West Wales. We were very lucky to catch a lobster by hand. We caught and cooked a foraged seafood meal,which I believe would whet any seafood lovers appetite . We cooked oysters ,that were foraged by myself 2 days earlier. All the other ingredients apart from the rice,we foraged from that beach on the day. "I would like to apologise for the quality of the video and audio " .Kris was unavailable to accompany me on the day ,consequently I had to use my 4 year old camcorder. I feel that the content of the video was too good not to publish,despite the image quality. Thank you for bearing with me ! I hope to purchase a new GOPRO 6 and a wireless microphone shortly. I am aware many viewers like to see the food being eaten.This video was filmed in September 2017 and my future videos will show the eating of the meals.

      greatwhiteprivilege Sorry for the late reply, I didn't get the notification and I just happen to be rewatching some vids, raw sounds even more intimidating to be honest, i don't know why I have such a reaction to seafood like with mackerel just the smell of it makes me wretch really strong, I've tried to eat it on three occasions and all three ended up with me giving up because of being dangerously close to vomiting and I didn't want to put off the people I was eating with, haha I couldn't even eat the salad that came with the mackerel because the strong taste and smell attached itself to everything on the plate and even the roof of my mouth, was really gross. Thanks for the comment.

      Coastal Foraging With Craig Evans Living in the Philippines means that coconuts are readily available on the beach however so, I guess that’s one plus side. A pan or pot is all that’s needed to process it so it is doable.

    What a grand meal! Beautifully done. I was wondering how you came to learn the names and so much information about each thing you catch or pluck. Were you formally educated in this field? Maybe you've mentioned in a previous video and I missed it. Just me so curious. I appreciate all your knowledge 😁👍 and the video!

      Hi Cazza and thank you ,I have no formal qualifications in this area,but have enjoyed a lifelong passion for the local environment. I have tried to read every book I could find on the subject and have an extensive library of books on this subject .I have also enjoyed very many years of surveying our local coastline to find where the best places to forage are.Kind regards Craig.

      Coastal Foraging With Craig Evans Wonderful Wonderful! I’ve been to college a couple times. I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up (I better figure it out soon 😆 I’m soon 52!) But much like you if I want to know something I read a book and research it. I see all the books behind you at the beginning of your video. I’m a lifetime student I reckon. I have many books on field and forest foraging and on the old ways and healing, that have been lost over the generations. Anyway, thank you for another great video and your reply. Best Wishes, Cazza

    I always find your videos enjoyable Craig, and not only is there good food but it’s the picturesque sandy beaches, and low tide that really catches my eye. I’m actually learning something new from your videos. Keep up the good work

    Just wondering, How do you eat the velvet crab? It look delicious, but seem like you wouldn't get much meat from it.

    • @coastalforagingwithcraigev8447
      @coastalforagingwithcraigev8447  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ben,there is not much meat on a Velvet Crab,you can break the claws with your teeth ,but the legs can be opened with your fingers. Velvet swimming crab meat is very sweet and flavoursome.When it is cooked in a broth or stew/soup type meal it gives the liquid a nice flavour. Regards Craig.

    Really interesting as always Craig, recently subbed to the channel and have enjoyed it immensely. Just a tip, TH-cam has a feature where they can get rid of the shakiness of the video automatically. They've got a quick walkthrough here: goo.gl/m8oMnR just click on the 'Stabilize shaky camera motions' and it'll point how to apply the fix. Looking forward to the next one already, could you do a video on what kit/ingredients you tend to bring with you?

    • @coastalforagingwithcraigev8447
      @coastalforagingwithcraigev8447  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi James and thank you for your advice and suggestions,I will certainly try the Stabilise feature. In future my videos will be filmed on a new Gopro 6, so this shouldn't occur again.Great idea to introduce a video by showcasing what kit /ingredients to bring. Regards Craig.
