Very unique Sam everyone has their own way of doing things mate.. Very hard to tell if 35mm will be enough clearance mate yes a tonner doesn't have a lot of weight over the rear axle but you still have your fuel tank plus the weight of the tray to factor in mate.. Very neat all the same mate.. Not if coil overs settle like normal suspension which normal drops around 15-20mm depending on the rate of the spring at hand mate.. You going the right way about bloke anyway keep up the great content 👌👍
Only one person needs to love it YOU It's you your car your project we are here watyour dream car and learning as you go , I've got the led lights ready for my beast because yours looks fantastic Do what makes YOU happy cheers dave
Big fan of this - lots of comments on the travel, I was wondering how you came up with the plan rather than shitting on it - so much thought into this build I am interested in the why
Glad you like the build Mate. I wanted to build something unique and a once off build. Also trying to keep most things subtle. The tray might end up being too much but will see what I can come up with :)
Generally speaking. Anything custom, add 10 hours to your estimated time that you think it will take then add 20 hours to that. 😂😂😂. Looking awesome Sam. Cannot wait to see this ute ripping around Brisbane. Keep up the high build quality. 👍👍👍
Never seen a tray design before like you’re thinking of, might be interesting to see what designs you come up with, also have you thought about a automatic actuator to lift your tray, something like a automatic gate opener, also would be able to be connected to a remote control, that would be a pretty Smick addition, all in all you’re doing a fantastic job
Wow great ideas with the tray watched your build from the start and have really enjoyed it I hope you update the wheels to something better keep up the great work
Yeah I think you right about the wheels. The wheels that are on it were good 20 years ago but yeah some nice modern style will complete it. Just more costs hahah
Great Work love the videos ... Just a quick note ... You said there is only 35mm clearance from the guard to the tyre ... It looks like you have a lot more travel in the coilovers than 35mm thinking you might need some more clearance than that.
i love Olights . i have the Warrior X with the pressure switch i use on my hunting rifle . throws out perfect light for spot lighting . trays looking wicked mate.
I know Mate. I normally would not do a product placement but olight are awesome. I will be ordering the same as you have for my rifles I'm waiting for. The pressure pad looks sweet.
It's a beautiful build mate. You should be proud of the care and thought that is going into it.. I'm worried about the clearance of 35mm under the guards though.. I'd hate to see what may happen if you hit a ditch . From the picture that you showed it looks like perforated steel sheets. If that's what it is, personally, I don't like the practicalities of road grime being thrown up under the tray. But, it's your build, you have to be happy. You've been fastidious in the preparation in all other areas, just think it through.
Thanks for the feedback Mate. I might look into the spacing of the guards as a few comments have said the same thing. Guards are only tacked in so it wont be an issue to raise if I need to. Im also thinking carbon fiber sheeting could be an option
Looking the goods so far. Not sure about the flooring but can't loose anything by trying it. It's you car so make it as you want it bro. Keep up the good work.
Like the idea of the mesh tray as long as the laser cut surrounds are not too fancy. Nice and simple would be the best, but whatever you reckon it would be awesome.
Are you going to drive the ute? Timber trays look sweet original height you had a hiding space great for 10kgs pay for new rig and fuel for some more runs. All was good used about 25l to 100km about 10 mpg Had a problem with tailshafts suggest two piece with center bearing
I think the idea will suit the cars colour & style but long term mesh would be hard to keep clean and looking good. Have you considered carbon fiber sheeting? There's a few colour variations to choose from.
Anyother guy commented saying he thinks its carbon fiber in the picture. I think he is right and I actually was thinking of using that instead as I think it could look good
Love were this build is heading, looks quality and solid custom ideas working well. What about continue the interior styling to deck, and even a laser cut logo SG or Holden lion or similar as a send off for Australias GM Holden sad day of closure.Cheers
Looks really good! What about magnetic latches like you see on security doors shitload of holding strength if done right and 12 volts DC… one on each side wired in parallel up the front.
be interesting to see how this tray turns out. im in the same opinion as you when you said some people try to do things outside the box on there trays and the look like dog shit. im going to be keeping mine very simple. lower down. following the lines on the door, no tubs and probably checker plate or smoot steel
Yeah I was going to do a flat smooth top but someone sent me that photo and then got me thinking. will see how it goes I guess. Hopefully its not too much.
looking good bro , all i wanna know is how u lifted that tray frame on and off your self , my one weighed a tonne lol guards look perfect position well done
Thanks Mate.... Yeah it was kinda awkward but yeah just man handled it. It was not too bad without the guards but now they are tacked on it will be a lot harder.
Looks awesome mate. How much extra weight would you be putting on. You’d have your drop tank weight and the remaining weight for the tray. I’m Thinking about the finished ride height for the rear. I know you have coil overs. You probably have thought of this but thought I’d mention it. Loving the build mate
Thanks Mate. There will be nothing going on the tray so Im hoping it wont drop very much. I might look into raising the guards a bit more as they are only tacked into place
I was going to use these wheels but the more the build progressed I am really thinking they need updating. Its just an additional cost to a build that kinda blew out haha
Dude, build the trey too your taste. As the MCM guys have published several times lately, the haters are gunna hate no matter what you do. For example, the door release you fabricated on The Tunner is (in my opinion) bloody awful. But you want it, & so it’s done. Be unique, build the ute you want. Just keep up the content dude and accept the difference in opinion. 👍🇦🇺
Mate, I have a horrible feeling that 35mm compression travel isn't going to be enough. You don't want to limit your travel by stiffening the heck out of the shocks either. TCP suggest 50mm of compression travel and QA1 say to aim for 2.5" (63mm) compression.
Thanks Mate. A few people have commented the same thing. I will look into it further and if needed the guards are only tacked in so I can raise it a bit more
Using mesh inserts will make getting a load of dirt home from the garden centre interesting;)
Hahaha good point 😂
Very unique Sam everyone has their own way of doing things mate..

I'd like to see some Tassie oak for a tray but I think whatever you do will be top notch . 👍
thats pretty common on trays .
Only one person needs to love it YOU

Do what makes YOU happy
cheers dave
Thanks Mate. If you got the same headlights they are good aye. Its hard to find decent rear lights that are smaller for the tonner and look good
Big fan of this - lots of comments on the travel, I was wondering how you came up with the plan rather than shitting on it - so much thought into this build I am interested in the why

Fantastic build. Sorry if I missed it and I hope you don't mind me asking what do you do for a living. Regards Jim. Tonner owner.
Thanks Mate. I am a Diesel Mechanic by Trade but not so much on the tools anymore. Go the Tonners
Generally speaking. Anything custom, add 10 hours to your estimated time that you think it will take then add 20 hours to that. 😂😂😂. Looking awesome Sam. Cannot wait to see this ute ripping around Brisbane. Keep up the high build quality. 👍👍👍
100% Mate. It always takes longer than thought. Hopefully very soon Mate

Thankyou Mate. There is a render in Episode 4 on how it looks. I think it should look great
Starting to look pretty sick I reckon the yellòw color on the framework will look awesome 👌 👏 👍

Love it bro, looks awesome definitely gives me the juices flowing for my tray !!!! 🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀
It’s gonna be a awesome ute once you’re finished 🔥👌

Back end is going to be pretty light 😁
Yeah there wont be too much weight in it I guess
Looks great, not sure about suspension travel and your 35mm clearance🤔
That's what I was thinking too.
I agree,
That will look awesome mate
Like the idea of the mesh tray as long as the laser cut surrounds are not too fancy. Nice and simple would be the best, but whatever you reckon it would be awesome.
I think if you put your tie in's may keep it straighter when you weld it up less worpage, looking great all the best to you and your loved ones
Looking good Old school Holden emblem with the mesh for the tray.
That mesh idea in like a spider Web would look good in the yellow vortex with some of the interior colour highlights.
Are you going to drive the ute? Timber trays look sweet original height you had a hiding space great for 10kgs pay for new rig and fuel for some more runs. All was good used about 25l to 100km about 10 mpg Had a problem with tailshafts suggest two piece with center bearing
It’s all good ,great toner evolving. Carg0 ? TIE DOWNS.
Thankyou. Nah wont have any cargo so tie downs wont be needed
Awesome mate looking forward to the next vid all the best cheers Yogi 🇦🇺🤙🤙

@@ShenkeGarage awesome, I thought it looked like carbon fiber also but was being subtle. 😂

Thanks Mate... I was thinking of some laser cut logo in the middle. Even the name of the car OUTRUN could look ok.
Looks really good!
What about magnetic latches like you see on security doors shitload of holding strength if done right and 12 volts DC… one on each side wired in parallel up the front.
Nice work, hard to picture your idea from the pic you showed, IMO its an old holden ute and keeping it simple generally looks best.
be interesting to see how this tray turns out. im in the same opinion as you when you said some people try to do things outside the box on there trays and the look like dog shit. im going to be keeping mine very simple. lower down. following the lines on the door, no tubs and probably checker plate or smoot steel

@@ShenkeGarage yea I reckon it will look good. You have nailed everything on the car so far so I'm sure this will be no different
looking good bro , all i wanna know is how u lifted that tray frame on and off your self , my one weighed a tonne lol guards look perfect position well done

Loving the build mate
Thanks Mate. There will be nothing going on the tray so Im hoping it wont drop very much. I might look into raising the guards a bit more as they are only tacked into place
as other people have said i dont think 35 mm will be large enough travel, one big hole will sort the guards out.
Cheers Mate. I will look into it further and if I need to lift it up higher then they are only tacked in at least
Ur a very likeable down to earth aussie sammy
The oner sure is coming together nicely
All the best buddy 👍
Hahah thanks for the kind words Mate
Great work but just curious Are those the final wheels your going to use? Or go with something like black billet weld wheels or something?
I was going to use these wheels but the more the build progressed I am really thinking they need updating. Its just an additional cost to a build that kinda blew out haha
But yes some black wheels with maybe a chrome deep dish would really complete it
Thats carbon fiber under that cnc stuff not mesh.
Thanks for pointing that out. Now that I look closely you are right.

Looking good mate 👌 👍
Too busy for a tray.
You can get expanded steel grate for walk ways that might look OK
Are the guards higher than the Bump Stops?

I think I know what the "O" stands for in olight. Oh f*#k their expensive.
