‘A tribute to Australia’: Andrew Bolt praises PNG PM’s parliament speech

  • Sky News host Andrew Bolt has praised Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape’s speech in Parliament on Thursday, hailing it as a “tribute to Australia".
The Prime Minister spoke about the shared history of the two nations and the important role Australia has played in the development of PNG.
Mr Bolt said the speech reminded people of the values and great Australian character he thinks people are losing.
“I was struck and, like I say, moved by the praise that he gave to Australia and our colonial past, the sort of praise that Labor and the Greens never would,” Mr Bolt said.
“They'd choke to praise colonialism in Papua New Guinea or in Australia - since colonialists also gave Aborigines the same things Marape was talking about; democracy, law and order, rule of law, development, Christianity and that passport that is the English language.”

    Thank you Sir!
I taught English at High School in Papua New Guinea before Independence.
The Australian Administration in PNG during my time, was a very impressive System of Government.
I felt very proud to be an Australuan Federal Public Servant working towards Independence for PNG.

Most people would have no idea of the benefits brought to PNG by Christian missionaries, some of whom I have known, and one of whom, retired, was my neighbour when I was young.
Christians also founded the Mission Aviation Fellowship to provide services to missionaries and they people they lived with in remote areas, often clearing just enough ground for a tiny grass runway in some remote mountainous area where they could land and take off with light aircraft such as De Havilland and Cessna models, to transport people, medical and other supplies, etc. MAF still provides such services, including responding to emergencies, in various places around the world, including PNG.
