What Publishing Path Should I Choose???

Let's take a look at the two most common paths to publishing your novel: traditional publishing (or trad pub) and indie publishing (or self-publishing / self-pub). Both are incredibly viable paths, and have their pros and cons. Let's explore what they are, and give you some more information for choosing the right path for you!
For some context, I spent 8 years pursuing traditional publishing. I spent a year researching, queried 3 novels over 3 years, and was paired with a literary agent for 4 more. We sold 1 book to a mid-level press (ie: not one of the Big 5 publishers in NYC) over that time. After that, I parted ways with her and pursued self-publishing. Can't Spell Treason Without Tea was my first indie novel, and I was lucky to have excellent success out the gate. I've since self-published multiple other books, and sold Treason to a Big 5 publisher, which solidly makes me a hybrid author.
Basically, I love both paths, and am a very unbiased source between them.
It all boils down to what's best for YOU, the author, based on your writing speed, interest in having a team behind you, interest in being paid fast, and capability to promote.
