    Mulan is my favorite movie ever. The simple story but highly developed and unique characters, the amazing music and the symbolism in it is perfection. I loved it when I first saw it in 1998 when I was 3, I love it today, and I'll love it always.

      Yeah, well, the Direct to Video sequel is (What's the word I'm looking for?) absent-minded. It dumps on its predissessor in a few ways.

    I remember watching Tarzan when it came out in theaters- the earliest memory I have of going to the movies. To this day, Tarzan is one of my favorites (though my mom says that I was crying when the drums played really loudly in the theater)

      @hamursh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What are you talking about?

  • @StarSnowGhost
    @StarSnowGhost 10 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    And now with "Walking With Dinosaurs" out, we might as well kiss the idea of a non-talking dino film goodbye. I guess film executives really think kids are so stupid that they can't sit through a film where a character doesn't spell everything out for them. And no, I don't think that the lack of silence is because it doesn't work in a feature film. "The Artist" won Best Picture and there was no talking in THAT. Oh, but wait, animation is for KIDS isn't it? Well, I guess we should just halt all creative efforts for kids movies, since they CLEARLY have no intelligence or appreciation of beauty anyway.
    Disgusting, isn't it?

    • @ThecompanyofSunshine
      @ThecompanyofSunshine 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And at that comment, it's safe to say that Animat was right when he said that people don't take animation seriously and consider it more of a genre than a film medium. :(

    • @StarSnowGhost
      @StarSnowGhost 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ThecompanyofSunshine I hope you realize I was being sarcastic when I said "animation is for kids," thus the caps. Anytime someone says that, I tell them to watch "Princess Mononoké." They probably won't, but I'd love to see their answer to that.

      So, how would you react to someone who is an adult, yet only likes children's projects? Someone who just doesn't like adult projects, thinking their only interest is money and fame? Someone who only likes kids' projects because they have all the heart and effort, and because they can help children learn how life works?

The music in that movie was so good that I went ten years without watching it and it stuck with me (and I saw Tarzan when I was 3!) Also I LOVE Fantasia 2000. We saw it in music class one day in elementary school but didn't get to finish it so I had to rent it at Blockbuster. But I saw it and LOVED it.

    Here's little update Mushu had a song called keep em guessing, and also when they made the story of Mulan they ignored the fact that Mulan joined the army to save her farther.
    They made it about a girl who was onhappy and only joined to get away from an arranged marriage.

    I think I can see the segment comparisons between Fantasia and Fantasia 2000:
    Toccata & Fugue in D Minor - Beethoven Symphony No.5 (Both are the first segment of their films and are supposedly abstract in design)
    Nutcracker Suite - Pines of Rome (Both are the second segment of their film, do not necessarily tell a story, and depict something natural in a fantasy environment)
    Rite of Spring - Rhapsody in Blue (Both are the longest segments of their films and take place within a certain well-known period in history, be it natural or human)
    The Pastoral Symphony - The Steadfast Tin Soldier (Both involve some kind of folklore or tale)
    Dance of the Hours - Carnival of the Animals (Both are whimsical and humorous, and involve funny animals)
    The Sorcerer's Apprentice - Pomp and Circumstance (Both involve classic Disney characters set within an age-old story)
    Night on Bald Mountain/Ave Maria - The Firebird Suite (Both are the last segments of their films, involve a contrast such as profanity and sacredness or death and rebirth, are very elegant in design, and, not to mention, are likely the most talked about segments from their films)

    Hmm...mute Aladar? That actually sounds like a pretty good idea. I mean, they muted Spirit and the animals in Pocahontas. But if they were muted, it'd feel more like a David Attenborough documentary than an animated movie. Hmm....I dunno. It seems like a 50/50 chance that if they spoke it would either be a huge success or a total bomb...I kinda like how they talk, but it makes the dinos seem so human. MAANN, this is haaard!

    Mulan was a wonderful heroine because she cared very deeply about her father - so much that this Chinese Joan of Arc dresses up as a man to save him, her family, and her entire country. I think people should be looking up more to these amazing leading ladies because they have regards for anyone's feelings and lives. Mulan is a feisty heroine who breaks stereotypes, like Belle and Merida does, and saves the lives of many.

    Mulan was the final movie of the Disney Renaissance that I saw in theaters. The reason I didn't watch Tarzan in theater was because I was more interested in watching the Inspector Gadget movie that was going on at the same time. But I did watch movie surfers on Disney Channel. 1998 was when the first full year of Disney Channel not being premium.

    Making the animals talk in Disney movie has somehow become a standard. even in the old versions of Bambi, there were almost no dialogues, but they kept changing it like 3 times until they "finally" stuck to the version, we all know today.
    I love Disney, but I really agree that sometimes it's just better to keep the characters quiet ;/

    God I love Mulan and Tarzan! Mulan was so epic and gorgeously animated and Tarzan was sweeping and beautiful. Both films had such lush animation. Glen Keane is my biggest hero , and I love how he was inspired by his son to animate Tarzan's tree moves. The music in Tarzan was great , and had wonderful moments that really get you emotional. It really paved the way as to what could be done for 2D animated films later on.

    I loved Fantasia 2000, but it REALLY could have done without the celebrity cameos. They made the movie seem INCREDIBLY dated and cheesy. I mean Itzhak Perlman, Quincy Jones and Angela Lansbury were pretty well chosen, but Steve Martin, Bette Midler, James Earle Jones and Penn and Teller? If they wanted to have more than one announcer, that's fine but they really should have hired experts of each Musical piece.

    One thing I will say about Fantasia 2000, I didn’t know who Itszak Perlman was when it came out (probably cuz I was a kid). Having seen Schindler’s List now and putting the pieces together, I’m in awe on how they got him to be a guest speaker. He may not be that big, but anyone who had anything to do with Schindler’s List I’m not worthy to kiss their feet.

  • @DiegoDiaz-rs4ej
    @DiegoDiaz-rs4ej 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I will comment on these movies in order from what I like most to what I like least. Tarzan: When Tarzan is still a child, I find him to be very cute and likable. I will also admit the jungle is beautiful to look at. Mulan: I like how Mulan is capable of independence, and when it comes to Eddie Murphy, I actually prefer Mushu over Donkey. But my favorite character in that movie is actually the cute little bug Crickie. Dinosaur: I actually like the decision to have talking dinosaurs, but I think the problem everyone else has is the lip-syncing. Maybe if there was no lip-syncing, people would see the dialogue as what the dinosaurs were "thinking", not what they were "saying". I could be wrong, but I can't help thinking that without lip-sync, the dialogue in Dinosaur would be better appreciated. Fantasia 2000: My problem with this project is exactly the same as the first Fantasia: no dialogue. Like the first Fantasia, there are no voice actors at all in Fantasia 2000. Once again, I find myself wishing that the characters would speak up. However, while the first Fantasia thankfully stayed all hand-drawn animated, Fantasia 2000 dealt with more computer animation than I like to see. I know Fantasia is about making animation look like art, and that was the reason for why Disney included computer animation for 2000, but the truth is, I like drawing animation much more than computer animation. Needless to say, while I am troubled by the first Fantasia, I do admit it is better than Fantasia 2000.

    Mulan is also nice film to look at with all the ancient Chinese scenery. The character voices are good too. Eddie Murphy does a good job as Mushu. Too bad he didn't voice him in the sequel. And yet the sequel is both inconsistent and absent-minded. Aside from that though, the first theatrical film really captures the true beauty of Asia.

    At least the voices in Dinosaur are actually a good change to it. Not great. Just good. And it happened early on. Unlike walking with Dinosaurs which was last minute.

    @Hewylewis Mhm. Naw.I haven't seen Land Before Time in a LONG time but I remember that it was more geared toward children; find your inner bravery, friendship, the cycle of life and death. Dinosaurs was a visual feast I felt like I was watching an Attenborough dino doc. The movie DID had life/death but wasn't as emotional/ moral as LBT ...but they weren't exactly alike. But I can defintely see why you find them similar. Dinosaurs was defintely aimed at a higher age group. Both dark movies though

    My dad never was into Tarzan and didn't want to watch it when it was on TV once for the sole reason that he hates Phil Collins.

    **Notice Mulan's jaw structure when she's a "woman". Check out her jaw when she's a "man" and you can defintely tell they changed it; they sharpened and defined the bone. I actually never noticed that until....like a week ago? And I'm seventeen and grew up with Disney movies.
