Around 30 years ago, my brother and I used to have one just like this one and we rode it till it wore out. It needed a complete bottom end rebuild just like he did to this one. At the time, neither of us had the specialty tools or skill level to even attempt a project like that so we had no choice but to sell it to someone dirt cheap who did. The new owner ended up rebuilding the whole bike. This was 30 years ago before the age of internet or youtube. But, if I still had it, I bet I could've followed everything he did in this video and rebuilt the bike myself. He really does a good job of rebuilding these old dirt bikes.

you should NEVER follow everything he did in this video. he did an awful and terrible job on the engine rebuild. the engine must be dissasembled COMPLETELY and EVERY part cleaned thoroughly. EVERY bearing must be replaced by a new one. bearings must not be hammered in. use more heat to DROP them in. crankshaft must be trued before install. crankshaft must not be hammered in. the generous use of assembly lube will not right the wrongs he did. that assembly lube is not necessary at all. just fill up the transmission fluid BEFORE install of the engine in the frame. that way you can turn the engine to both sides and upside down and the transmission fluid will get everywhere before the first start.

When cutting the inner race off close to counterweight we cut parallel to the counterweight at an angle across the race towards the outside that way we don’t hit the counterweight with the wheel.

These videos bring back memories, when we changed a piston and rings out we used to have to run it in, we normally would take our time on the bike for about a tank and a half of fuel then we would start bringing the bands in a bit after 2 tanks we would thrash it otherwise it would seize and you would have to do it all again, i loved the 80’s what a decade listening to that engine at the end took me right back there

    Been a sub for years.
I know the routine you use for checking bikes and have visually learned how to take apart and put things back together. This grandma comes back to see bikes and 🎉Vinny!!🎉 yay!!! 😊
Also, be careful working with your gold ring, you can damage your hand/finger. Silicone bands are safer.

Took my freshly rebuilt KDX to the trails for the first time along with a DRZ 250 I got from my father in law for really cheap. I was on the KDX and got about 200 feet into the trail when I stopped moving even when shifting and on the gas. Instantly knew the clutch was gone since that the only wear item I havent replaced. Thanks to your videos I figured it out fast and should be able to do the new clutch install no problem!

Clutch is so simple. Like 6 bolts and springs and about 15-18 friction plates and spacers. They just stack and only go back in one way. You can stack them in the wrong order tho. New gaskets. New fluid and she will be ready to rip

You can't go hitting a crankshaft with a hammer, Joe... Big end crank pin is an interference fit and brayin' on it with a hammer will unbalance the crank.

If you put the paint stripper on heavy then stick thin plastic to the parts over the stripper and then put them in bags and let them sit overnight to keep the stripper from drying out it should cut through all of the paint layers in one go. The problem with paint stripper is that as it dries the paint will reharden a bit making it hard to remove.

Okay I watch all of your videos and I really like them. But hold on a sec… You wanna sandblast the motor to make look new, but I’ve never seen you actually wash a motor entirely before. So, if I were you, I’d start cleaning the motor first.. and THENNNN start sandblasting. (Btw sandblasting isn’t the best way to clean a motor because the sand particles can get stuck in the cavities of the motor. Buffering with a steel brush or Scotch-Brite is a better alternative in my opinion). I appreciate all the work you do regardless. Keep it up 👌

Great job joe, finally stopped smoking as bad. Maybe a bit rich on the mixer of fuel. Maybe try 32-1. Seems to run smoothly tho.⭐️🇺🇸💫👍🏻

I'm just saying Joe, new crank bearings and seals contribute a lot to the performance of a 2 stroke it's very hard to tune an engine that has rotational drag and you can't mimic the load of the engine with your hand. Maybe consider it in the future that's all.....

Is it correct to place the crank sealant with the spring to the oil side?

I came here to find this comment. I've never done it that way. Maybe it's model specific. 🤷 Probably why it's still smoking so much.

@@palcolandcattle4259I have never done it that way either. It feels like the lip/spring should be at the high pressure side. But as you say, its maybe something specific for this model.
I dont think it smoke at the end.

A hydro blaster. Works way better and keeps heat way down on that aluminum stuff. But does work on any other metals as well. Look em up because I think harbor frieght sells them too

When you moved the power valve linkage the valve drum did not. That's a problem they all had at one time or another.
