For very high amp services, typically 400 amps and above, at least in the area I work in, it's fairly common to run parallel conductors instead of one very heavy cable especially if conduit is required.

It’s true. 2023 NEC has a calculation for parallel conductors in article 310.10(G)

Hey brother nice vid.. I want to add that this table is with a 83% allowance factor 310.15(B)(7)(1) is the allowance... an if the service drop or service lateral takes the entire load of the dwelling from 100-400A then you may use the allowance..like you mentioned it was in 310.15 in previous cycles now in the 2020 it's back..✌🙏

This table was erased from 2020 cause it contradicts 310.15(16) 83% rule wasn’t used for this table

2023 NEC has this table and is the same. So don’t worry about it. You can still use it

How do we know what size and type of conduit to use with each type of wire....I'm putting in an under ground service feed from the pole to the meter on the house and using 2awg for our 100amp panel. Anyone know if all states allow the homeowner to dig his own ditch from near the telephone pole to their electrical meter, lay their own conduit and electrical from their meter to the base of the pole, and then have the electrical company just connect power to the meter and then finish connecting the service from the base of the pole up to the power lines on it. I've seen recent videos of people doing it but they didn't say what state they're from for me to know if Ohio allows it

Did you ever find out what wire to run for a 100amp sub panel? I’m doing that now to add in my detached garage and I’m also unsure what gauge wire to use

6chicolin9 copper conductors? By 2 2 2 4 I am assuming you are talking about two #2 “hot” conductors, one #2 neutral, and one #4 ground? What type of insulation does the cable have marked on the jacket?

I'm running the same 2 2 2 4 all single insulated with black plastic. Just wondering if its ok to run inside of a 1 1/2 EMT conduit? Thanks

Careful folks watching. This is old code.

As of right now, nothing in this video is outdated. This table is identical to the table in annex D as well as 310.12(a) in the current code cycle (2023)
