I took my test 3/21/23. Took the full 175 questions. FAILURE, I was devastated as well. The questions were very different that what I had reviewed with the practice exams. I was scoring 80% or higher on them. I have not let this get me down and am currently reading in tandem the CBK, AIO, and the OSG. I plan on signing up for the Study Notes and Theory once I finish reading through the books another time. I think my issue was trying to answer the questions as a technician.

Totally agreed, the actual questions are VERY different. To give you some hope, you definitely scored a lot higher than I did for the practice exams.
It's great that you know your potential issue, so you can work on improving it. I think you have a good plan, especially signing up for Study Notes and Theory because his questions aren't technical, but they'll make you sweat bullets trying to figure them out! HAHAHA
Please don't push your retake too far out in case you start forgetting the material.

Hello Kim: here is some additional positive feedback. Your voice and articulation is perfect for the delivery of what can also be quite dry information so you have the gift of keeping topics interesting. You earn an A+ with that. Your husband was right when he encouraged you to start this. You also get an A+ for bookmarking your videos; it really helps when people come back to relook at a specific area. And while I am at it, you get additional feedback on something you may never have expected to hear. You still sound great, and the content delivery is fine when watching you at 1.5x speed. Seriously, not all youtube’s can be watched at 1.5 due to the change in voice and delivery ability at a higher speed but yours is perfect. I know making these takes a lot of time. You have this down well so don't stop helping others and see your channel grow! Hello Kim, thanks so much for making this video. Which would you say is better to prepare in regards to practicing questions for the cissp exam, which is in 2 weeks, would you recommend the Boson or CISSPREP or do you say get both $$?

I know spending money is often time difficult, especially nowadays. I'd say both based on your questions because the more questions the better since they are different from each other. However, if I were to really recommend, then I'd recommend Boson and Study Notes and Theory because Boson has the technical questions and Study Notes and Theory has holistic questions. The latter are A LOT more difficult - at least from my experience - but it makes you think and REALLY understand how things work together.

My first attempt scenario was also similar like you as I was spending too much time to read questions to answer better, now preparing for second attempt coming in 2 weeks. Luke Ahmad practice questions are quite similar to actual exam questions I would say in a way questions are big (scenario questions) 😂😂. Fingers crossed for upcoming exam 😋

you have more than enough time to finish the question. People usually took 2 hours to finish 125 questions. if you spending too long time to answer the question, meaning you might think too complicate for the question. it should be first sense on top of your mind without hesitation...

Currently studying after taking a boot camp that my work paid for. I will be taking my exam on June 5th. This will be my second attempt at the CISSP exam.

Hi Kim, thanks for sharing your journey. It will help many candidates to get on the right track in the future. I sat for the exam few days back and the same thing happened to me. Didnt reach the minimum number of questions (answered 125) and it was an automatic fail. But I did not receive the domain breakdown like you did. It would've helped me to prepare for my next try. Do you know why this happens? Has anyone else experienced the same ?

Hm...What did you receive after finishing the exam? Did they hand you any paper? If yes, what's on that piece of paper?
Also, if you don't mind me asking, which country did you take your exam? I took mine in the U.S. - southern California.
@@kimandtech Thank you 😊. I took the exam in U.S Massachusetts. Yes I got the paper and it says "Because the examination terminated due to time constraints before the minimum set of items was answered, diagnostic information cannot be provide". I thought I passed minimum number of questions when I hit 125.

The CISSP exam changed it format on June 1, 2022. The minimum is now 125.

I'd recommend that you call or go to testing center that you took the exam and ask them about the results.

Hi Kim, I'm an inspiring cissp. Can you tell me why you failed in your 1st attempt despite spending long hours on revision and what did you do differently in your 2nd attempt?
Hi @antomanutd! Glad to hear from an aspiring CISSP person! At 08:19 of the video, I shared that I failed because I didn't get to the 100th question at the end of the 3-hours exam, which was an automatic fail.
What I did differently was do more practice questions from more sources.
I go into details of what I did differently at 09:35 and go over my study routine at 10:17 of the video as it would be too much to write it all out in this comment.
I also have CISSP tips video if you're interested in what worked and didn't work for me. Good luck with your study!
Did you have study notes and theory by Luke Ahmed as well as boson exam and sybex?
Yes, I signed up for Study Notes and Theory for the questions written by Luke Ahmed, used the Bosom Practice exams, and Sybex Practices questions.

Hi Kim, I graduated from programming 15years ago but haven't use it. I ended up working from the office doing basic stuff, microsoft excel and want to learn IT again. is there a roadmap you can advice to me which best course to start all the way up getting CISSP? i'll follow your advise thank you.
Hi Jeff. First of, thank you for stopping by and wanting my opinion. This is a bit tough since 15 years is a long time, and I'm not sure what you want.
Do you have an idea of what kind of IT you want to do - Security, Networking, Servers, Programming, or etc.? And if you want to stay technical or go managerial?
I don't think you need to go back to school for any courses because that will take a lot of your time. You can start looking for entry-level positions if you're looking to get into the technical side of IT or a Jr. position. This will help you determine what you need based on the job description.
Then, depending on the requirements of the job positions you want, you may consider taking some certs.
If you're interested in certs for basic IT - non-programming cert - you can take the CompTIA A+.
Summary: Pretty much - look at multiple job descriptions for what you want. From there, determine what are the common prerequisites, and work your ways toward them.

I was looking at the CISSP but I'm afraid I would be too lazy to maintain the certification with all the CEU's you have to obtain to maintain it.
LOL, yes it does sounds like a lot, but it's been a lot easier than I thought since their 120 credits are for a span of 3 years, which breaks down to 40 CPE credits per year. I'm maintaining it with webinars - 1hr equals 1 CPE credit - because that's the easiest for my busy schedule. I just have to attend or watch 40 webinars a year and keep it up for 3 years. HAHAHA 😆
@@kimandtech Yeah I think that would be too much for me and I wouldn't want to sit again for a 3 hour test. I have a bunch of IT certs already such as A + Security + and CCNA and I won't even maintain those through CEU's but I know the material enough that if I had to re-up those certifications for a job I could show up to a testing center drunk and take it again for only 90 minutes. I don't mind maintaining certs with this way.
@ardean HAHAHA You must be a good test taker. I'm terrible at taking tests 😰, so I can't imagine myself going through this again. LOL
@@kimandtech I don't mind it for those certifications but I don't think I could stomach doing a CISSP exam every three years since I'm most likely going to be too busy and lazy to keep up the the CEU/CPE credits to renew it.

Hi! If you’re new to the IT field and have 0 IT work experience, then I think it’s better to focus on getting an entry-level IT job first, such as Help Desk or IT Support. However, if you’re having difficulty finding an entry-level IT job, then then you can use your spare time to study for the CISSP. It’s worth noting that you need 5 years of experience in at least 2 of the CISSP domains to be fully certified. If not, then you’re only considered as an Associate until your work experience is met.

Hello Kim, I'm 20 years old i am currently studying for my CISSP ISC2 certificate. I'm not sure if am too young to take the exam, I want to start my degree in bachelor of Science in Computer Networks and Cyber Security. I also have a google certificate in IT support professional with 1 year work experience in the area. I want to take the CISSP ISC2 exam so I can get a better job to help me pursue my degree. I feel am too young to take the exam especially the huge experience expectation.

Forewarning - long response ahead! 😵💫
With that being said, it's worth noting 2 things:
(1) Companies will hire mid to high-tier title if you have the experience to back it up - not so much certs. Cert is more of a WOW factor for most companies. They care more if you've performed similar responsibilities and how well you know/performed them, so you don't mess up their environments.
(2) Since you only have 1 year of work experience so far, you will only qualify to be a CISSP Associate and not a full pledge certified member since candidates must have a minimum of 5 years cumulative paid work experience in 2 or more of the 8 domains of the CISSP and earning a four-year college degree or regional equivalent or an additional credential from the (ISC)² approved list will only satisfy one year of the required experience.
Here are some questions to ask yourself to help you make the decision:
- Is your job an easy 8-5 where you have time to study? If it's an easy job, then yes start your study.
- Is your job requiring the CISSP? If yes, then YES!
- Are you a hands-on learner? Or do you learn just as fine by reading? If you're a hands-on learner, then this cert will be challenging for you without having more experience to understand the concept. You'll have to memorize, which will make studying for the CISSP a bit more overwhelming - not impossible just won't be a breeze.
- How important is taking and passing the CISSP vs. getting the experience at the moment for your next title? Also, how long do you think you'll move on to this next title? I don't know your situation too well, but I started from 0 work experience and me being a hands-on learner, so I needed to work on my experience before I was comfortable taking the test to really understand it.

Firstly thank you so much for the response I really appreciate it. :) I've wanted to work in the cybersecurity sector since I was 12. I've always loved IT so when I finished school I decided to do the Google course so I could have hands-on experience and also make money to contribute to the degree I want to pursue. From my work experience, I learnt how to assemble PCs and perform maintenance on multiple computers helping also troubleshoot issues for the company and clients. But the place shut down due to financial problems, that's why I wanted to take the CISSP exam to make my resume a bit better so I could get an entry-level job into Cyber security. I've heard how much study and commitment is needed for the CISSP exam, and I'm more than willing to study hard even though I love a hands-on experience just like you. I just wanted to also ask with the CISSP certificate will I be able to get an entry-level job in cybersecurity with no experience?
Before I forget!! Once I get the 5 years experience what will happen?

Since you're not working at the moment and searching for a job, I'd say why not. Go for it!
Yes, you can definitely find an IT entry-level job with the CISSP cert, but you can also get one without experience and/or the CISSP cert. When we say IT entry-level jobs, we're referring to Help Desk or IT Support level 1. I started with 0 experience, if anything worst than your current situation since I had never put a computer together prior to my 1st IT job or having a CISSP cert, so I know it's completely possible for you.
Since I didn't take the Associate route, I cannot say. However, from a quick search online, I found a similar question on the ISC2 forum. The suggested answers are to request for an endorsement.

Hello @williamm200! No, you do not need any coding skills. There's no coding involved in this exam.
What is the cost of retaking the exam?
Retaking the exam costs the same as taking it for the first time. Where I live, it's $749.
You seem to have to much emotional investment and attachment to this industry and certifications
Well, I wouldn't say it's an emotional investment or attachment to the industry...maybe to that specific cert since it's the hardest cert in the security industry. I'm emotional about this particular cert because I'm not smart, so for me to be able to pass it in such a short time - and it being the most difficult in the field - so I was overwhelmed by the emotions when I failed and passed it. I see it as a personal achievement. 🙂
