Did you end up returning it and what did you end up with? I'm on the apple ecosystem, maybe I should get something that's matter compatible
@jack91522 I did return it. Went through a few Mesh Systems, and I'm currently using the ASUS ZenWiFi BQ16Pro.
Hi Kim! quick question: do you happen to know if I can connect to my NAS and Synology from outside the U.S.? I’ll be living in Peru for a little while, and I’m curious if I can still sync to the main server with my credentials and bring my hard drive along. Just to give you some context, I work with a radio station where we share audio files for collaboration, and since the company is based in the U.S., I want to ensure I won’t run into any issues accessing those audio files on my RAID. Thanks a ton for your help!
@lisas.cerdafernandez2941 Hi Lisa! Thank you for your question and a little background to help me understand it better. Yes, you can definitely connect to your Synology NAS from outside the U.S. There are 2 ways of doing this: (1) Synology QuickConnect and (2) VPN setup. I currently use the VPN setup with OpenVPN since I want more control of our privacy/security, and I was able to upload my images just fine and view files as needed when I was in Japan. Hope this helps! 🙂
даже дизайн прошивки необновили
Hello, it’s definitely not your cables but something with the router and the way it negotiates speeds with connected devices. I experience the same issue randomly. Unplugging and replugging cable fixes it and if not power cycling the device being connected without powering off the router and it’ll correct itself. Asus is kinda new and a bit glitchy I noticed with mine.
@wills4109 Hello! Thank you for sharing your experience. I tried rebooting and unplugging and replugging the cable in multiple times and in various orders. Unfortunately, that didn't fix the issue for me. I do notice this ASUS to be a bit glitchy, where twice already, I've woken up to the system not working at all in the morning and had to be rebooted, which worked fine afterwards.
hello what is the brand of your modem?
@angellucernas1761 Hello! I used the modem that came with my Internet Service Provider. I think it's the ET2251 DOCSIS 3.1.
Your video was very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to make it! Also, I especially like that you added "chapters" to make finding specific areas of interest very quick!
@SRSnure Thank you so much for the kind feedback! Very glad that you found it helpful! I know what you mean. When I'm watching something, sometimes I'm looking for something specific, so I always appreciate the Chapters - especially for topics that are independent of each other. 😁
Very nice video but a lot to be desired
Hello ! Top vídeo ! O just got one for The house ! Just tell me you think we can put our normal detergent um The clean water tank ? Thank yoy 😉
@fredericodias2103 Thank you for the kind comment! Hmm..I'm not sure to be honest as I haven't tried. However, I think it may be possible but a very diluted amount, so your carpet doesn't soak in the soap or the floor doesn't have the soap scum since the robot doesn't "rinse" your floor or carpet after mopping unlike a washing machine that rinses your clothes after the wash cycle. Please let me know if you end up trying it! 😀
Good video i saw you have different test severs when you tested your speeds the speedtest app will automatically choose a location for you every time you open the app that's why your speeds where different after every test. I have a question, for things that need wifi such as smart home devices can you force those devices to connect to the 2.4 GHz only or will the ai in the system make them connect to 5 GHz when it doesn't need. Also do you use the 6GHz as well or only have it for the backhaul feature?
@coldshot1611 Thank you for noticing the different speed test servers. Someone else also commented about it. I missed this part when editing and doing my tests. When I checked again after the fact by selecting the same speed test server, the results were still relatively the same as the ones in the video. However, I'll do a better job next time when presenting my speed tests. 😅 As for my smart home devices, I put them on a password protected Guest network because out August Lock was having trouble connecting to the main Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, we couldn't use the 6GHz when we had the system connected for any devices because our devices at that time didn't support the 6GHz. The Wi-Fi backhaul may have used the 6GHz if the units were able to reach each other.
Very informative instructions and extremely professional production quality! I'll be receiving my deco units in the mail soon, so I am hoping all goes well with this tutorial.
@JMSipe-yu3up Thank you for the kind comment! I hope you have a smooth setup!
No problem at all with our Orbi what so ever
@donhgr Thank you for sharing! Do you mind sharing your home interior space - the size? I'm curious if it's because of the size of the coverage area or that maybe I just got a faulty one. LOL
This video needs polish. It comes across like you don't know what you're talking about and nervous. Like when you constantly look to the right to read the specs or marketing from the oem. Never heard of the 2.5ghz spectrum before either. I'm not trying to be mean, I just want to provide you some honest feedback. You seem like a nice person and I don't want to discourage you but I didn't enjoy this one.
@Toelishness Thanks for watching the video and providing your feedback! Want to share that since I could not remember all the talking points and wanted to stay on track, which was why I was looking to the side - to read my notes. For nervousness, it's some thing that I'm constantly working on. As for "2.5ghz spectrum", I was referring to 2.5GHz Band, which sometimes is called spectrum. www.fcc.gov/25-ghz-band-plan
Loved the informative video. You are a very good and patient teacher. Keep up the good work!
@fredsiebert Thanks Fred for the kind words and watching the video! Have yourself a great one!
That looks like a great wifi mesh. You haven't encountered any issues with this mesh so far? On the other hand, that sure is one fast wifi. i was planning to buy one soon.
@seanbrillante2867 It has only gone down once, where we had to reboot all the routers. Everything was fine after the reboot. Haven't had any other issues besides that. Let me know how it goes for you if you do pick it up! Yeah, I think this may be the faster Mesh WiFi System that we've owned so far. Don't quote me on this as I'd have to check my logs. LOL
I was thinking of getting these however it seems like the device interface is so lacking compared to older systems. For example I cannot get a straight answer as to if it has access control or not. I want to ensure no new devices connect without me specifically approving because mac randomization can bypass kids restrictions. From what I read the only option is to get a notification that a new mac has connected...disappointing
@JR-jn8jp Yeah, the access control that is available on the Deco isn't as granular as how most parents would want to use it for their kids' restrictions. I don't know how it was when the web portal was available since I didn't look into it. Surprisingly, the ASUS ZenWiFi router has a more granular option, which I went over briefly during the ASUS ZenWiFI BQ16 Pro setup. You can check it out if it's what you're looking for. I haven't gotten a chance to test it yet since work has been busy.
I just bought the ASX 3000 from Amazon and will be returning it because of the TP link security issues. I need Security, the backside of my modem and router.
@rickiechristine Thank you for sharing! I'm having trouble looking up "ASX 3000" on Amazon. Which brand is it? How is it working?
I have only a question: Which must be that state of robot when I want to clean the robot and its garage. Turned off, paused?
@thecoroner75 Either is fine when cleaning the robot and its garage. When I was doing my cleaning, it was actually just chilling in the garage charging prior to my clean.
would it be reliable if i just use the 2nd router as a wired backhaul? or just go deco xe75
@IcyyX_ I think it would be more reliable in term of connectivity and speed if wired backhaul is used. Sorry, I haven't tried the XE75, so I don't know.
@@kimandtech its ok, which software is more user friendly and allows for more features?
@@IcyyX_ I think in term of features, they're neck to neck. The Deco app from TP-Link now offers MFA setup while the Netgear hasn't - at least the last time I used it. If we're talking about a feature-packed Wi-Fi Mesh System, then so far I'd say the ASUS ZenWiFi based on my experience. I'm blown away by the many options. I haven't had time to review any though, which I'm dreading the thoughts of having to do it. LOL
@@kimandtech LOL
for xfinity xfi, do you need to put in bridge mode?
would the tp-link xe70 the 4900. I upgraded from Orbi to TP-Link Deco. Im not subscribing to anything. I hate subscriptions.
@PNWLiving1725 I haven't used Xfinity xFi, but their article says that Bridge Mode needs to be used. www.xfinity.com/support/articles/wireless-gateway-enable-disable-bridge-mode
@PNWLiving1725 I'm not a fan of subscriptions either if I can avoid it.
Just a heads-up, if you run the Reencle indoors, it will spike your CO2 levels above 1000 PPM. I monitored the area immediately around it with an Aranet4 CO2 sensor and it's just consistent with their metabolic output. But better aerobic CO2 than anaerobic methane, amirite?
@MikeTrieu - LOL Thanks for the heads-up! When you say "metabolic output", is it the compost that the Reencle is creating?
if you want to properly test the wifi speed, i suggest self host openspeedtest on your NAS. that's what i did. For client device i used a Samsung S24 Ultra android smartphone which is wifi 7 6ghz 320mhz capable. So i openspeedtest which connects from the S24U to my NAS on the same local network via wifi 7. For my EAP-773 i scored 1000-2000 Mbps @ 5meter range in direct line of sight between the client and wireless ap.
@AinzOoalG0wn Thank you so much for the recommendation!!! I'll look into this. To be honest though, it's giving us amazing speed so far with the regular speedtest.com site and no wired backhaul. I am flabbergasted! 😲 Haven't had time to check all the other features though. 😅
wow, u got the zenwifi wifi7. the pro? not cheap? Is this the one that has AFC? meaning that the 5ghz and 6ghz has similar range with that feature?
@AinzOoalG0wn Yeah, it's the pro; it wasn't cheap. I had to make a case with my husband to get it. LOL😅 I read that it does have the capability, but it's currently not enabled - maybe with a later firmware. *Feeling hopeful 😁
Why did you use SSD instead of HDD? The HDD aren’t supposed to last longer ?
@albertor30 Yes, HDD's are supposed to last longer than SSD's, which is why I have a 8TB HDD as a backup. Currently, I have 2 4TB SSD's for a quicker write/read speed of the main files and an 8TB as a backup of the files on the SSD's.
Hi, does this BQ16 compatible with XT8 for the AI Mesh? I intend to purchase 1 BQ16 only as the main router and use my existing XT8 (x2) for mesh purposes.
@XecutionQ I think it should work since the specs show that the XT8 can be a Primary AiMesh Router or AiMesh Node. www.asus.com/networking-iot-servers/whole-home-mesh-wifi-system/zenwifi-wifi-systems/asus-zenwifi-ax-xt8/techspec/
I was think in of doing the same, thanks!
@@kimandtech but can it transmit wifi 7 (10gbps) speeds when using XT8 as a node? BQ16 as the primary wifi 7 router with 10Gbps speed and XT8 as a node.
@@XecutionQ I've read that it's possible. However, it's not always guaranteed that you'll get the full feature, and if you do, it may not as consistent. This is only based on my reading since I haven't had experience with mismatching our Mesh Wi-Fi Systems. If you do try this out, please let me know how it goes. Thanks!
Hey Buddy... Congratulations! 🎉
Hi any update?
@GrumpyMansREVIEWS Hi. Work has been busy, and I'm still working on a different video, so I haven't gotten a chance to do any test with this yet. From a non-testing standpoint, it's been great so far.
@@kimandtech Thanks for the reply. As long as they working fine, I know they are backwards compatible but still thought some devices might have issues. I’m going to order em this coming Primeday.
@@GrumpyMansREVIEWS Nice!!! It's giving us amazing speed so far with the regular speedtest.com site and no wired backhaul. I am flabbergasted! 😲 Haven't had time to check all the other features though. 😅 Please share how your experience goes once you've received it!
@@kimandtech Of course I’ll share our experience. I’m only getting one, because I have a set of ASUS zenwifi Pro XT12. The UK model is just BQ16 because it has two 5Ghz bands whereas yours has two 6Ghz bands hence the Pro.
Why are you keep reviewing Wi-Fi? Have you finally settled for one?
@msahau I keep reviewing Wi-Fi Mesh Routers because I've become more curious about other brands and models. I do have a favorite so far but not sure if I'd ever settle - at least anytime soon. Thank you for watching! 🙏
is bq16 and bq16pro the same or different?
@lucasliewHEHEHE Yes, there are a few differences. The main difference is really that the BQ16 Pro has two 6GHz bands while the non-Pro BQ16 has two 5GHz bands.
Just FYI that's not a CAT8 cable you're showing there at the end. There's no need for a CAT8 cable in your setup anyways. At 500mbps you can use cat5. A CAT8 cable is THICC and STIFF. The cable itself is very close to the total diameter of their terminal connector itself. It's chonky. Glad you fixed your problem though. I'm getting a BQ16 in the spring (2024) and found the video interesting!
@KellerApparelCo Appreciate you sharing! Yes, CAT5 technically should support my home speed, but the CAT5E I had didn't...maybe they're both bad cables. Either that or the BQ16 Pro didn't like the CAT5E 🥺. However, let me know how your BQ16 goes!
Can u show step by step, how to connect all devices to vpn on deco mesh wfi product ?
@AweSome-m5f Thank you for your request. I'll consider it as a potential video in the future. 🙂
Hi Kim great video! I got one issue though with my S8 Pro Ultra, which is the onboard tank of the roborock itself. Not the water tank or the dirty water tank which seat inside the dock. It tends to get really smelly after quite some time. Previous model like the S7, you could remove the onboard water tank for cleaning. I've reached out to Roborock and guess what....they didn't give any solution to this obvious design flaw. Hope that you probably have encountered this issue before and can share any tips to get rid of the smell.
@MRizaE Thank you for sharing your experience. I haven't had this issue. The onboard tank on the robot itself should be clean water only, so it shouldn't be smelly. If it smells, I wonder if (1) the washing mop somehow gets the dirty water back into that onboard tank, which would mean that its a defect on the product, or (2) somehow something dirty got stuck in the onboard tank by accident. The only thing I could think of that you can do is following the steps below in order: (1) Disassemble the mop and wash with soap by hand (2) Consider cleaning the bottom of the robot and make sure nothing smells at the bottom of the robot (3) Consider cleaning the dock and make sure nothing smells in the docking station (4) Clean both dirty water tank and clean water tank of the dock (5) Run the Wash Mop function 5-6 times or more (do this after everything is clean and you haven't mopped or clean anything). This steps should run through and clean the onboard water tank. I'd recommend do a sniff check every few run to see if there's progress. Hope this helps. Please let me know how it goes!
Ordered tthe be65. Lowee tier model. Is the Download Speed definitey lower with your deco? Bought it for cloud gaming but with lower performance I would abort my purchase. Thank you <3
@wuffgang5333 It didn't seem noticeable for my regular downloads, which are small KB. As for streaming, it was working fine - nothing stellar. However, for gaming, I'm not sure as I didn't play any game. Would love to hear yours performs when you receive it! Thanks!
Very GOOD ! Very NICE looking ! BUT USD949.99 hohoho~~~~~~~~~~ not for me . May be BE65 wifi 7 Tri Band 3-pack is enough for me to cover 2000sq/ft. 👍👍👍👍
@michelwong1 Definitely a hefty price. 🤑
excited for your review on this unit
Too bad AP vs router mode wasn't tested. There should be no traffic using AP mode but I bet it's the app rather than the device creating the traffic. I'll kill the app process on the phone when I do my testing. Thank you
@coreymalis3987 I think you have a valid point! It’s too bad that we have to use the app to manage the router in non-AP mode. However, agreed that it shouldn’t be a problem for AP mode. I’ll consider testing AP mode in the future. Thank you for the suggestion!
@kimandtech Thank you for the response and for sharing your experience as well.
Great unboxing, but how much devices can actually take advantage of the new technology most stuff won’t use Wi-Fi six or Wi-Fi seven don’t understand the purpose
@mattheww8059 Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! For WiFi 7, the router companies started applying the technology before the actual devices themselves. Don’t know if the router companies are trying to be proactive. However, I think most people should wait when their environment (home) has majority of WiFi 7 devices before getting a WiFi 7 router system because it’s still in the beginning phase and is expensive. 🤑
Question for you. If you use a program like Cyberghost to create a VPN, would there still be a security concern in your opinion?
Thanks for the information! I've decided to take TP-Link off my list for my next router.
@danielx77-u3x Glad to you find it helpful! 🙏 It's unfortunate that model has a privacy concern. The Deco BE16000 that I recently tested didn't have this problem, but don't know when a firmware update would come along with the potential of changing it and creating the same problem...
@@kimandtechhave you taken a look at the Deco BE85? Any concerns with that model?
@@jeremymartinez6024 Nope, I haven't used or tested that product, so I don't know.
Love this review, extremely balanced and well done! Thanks for the effort you put into this. As a fellow-creator, I recognize the hours of effort and research that went into this excellent review. Thank you. I will be recoewing a similar product on my channel shortly, and this has given me much to think about!
@GreenLove1 Yup, it definitely takes time to create while still having a full-time job. However, glad I could be of help! Thank you for dropping by! 🙏
I have been using OpenDNS for over 10 years, and it has been great for our home. When using OpenDNS, always run the IP updater software on your computer. This utility will notify OpenDNS if there is a change in your WAN IP
@bgcreations6995 Thank you for sharing your experience and the little tip!
Another helpful video! Can’t wait for the update!
This is a very very undervalued video. Thank you for the heads up, Kim! I’m glad I came across your video! Definitely helped me make a choice to not buy this router.
@GSAquatix Thank you for the kind comment! Glad it was helpful! 🙏
Great video and good luck, very informative. I have liked & subscribed
@mtandiz Thank you so much! 🙏
Honestly I have the Orbi and love it. It’s been two years with the system and I’ve had no issues thankfully.
@TheGame16 That's great to hear!
Thanks from Norway 👌👌
@RogerBarvåg - Thank you for watching!
Hello One of my deco6e keep blinking blue even I did a reset. The other is fine. The Lan port for each deco 1,2 and 3 can you that for wired connection up to 3 devices?
@xxcutive - Hello. I don't know how many LAN ports your model has. If it has 3 LAN ports, the you can have a full wired connection in multiple ways. If there are only 2 LAN ports, then you'll need to daisy chain the connection to have a full wired connection. For example, Main Router connects to Satellite 1 via wired connection, and Satellite 1 is wirely connected to Satellite 2.
Are you in a newer or older home because mine works just fine it's either the materials used in your home or if you share a network with other people and possibly just the unit you received
@deontabowen4800 Hello! Thank you for sharing your experience! I think my home is made of regular material - wood beam and dry wall - nothing special that I can recall. Is your home more than 2,000ft² (or 185.81m²)? Please don't get me wrong, I think the Google Nest WiFi Pro would work fine for smaller homes. Of course, there's always the probability that I got a bad set if your home is my size or larger and has great connectivity and speed with just these 2 units. 😅 If the Google Nest Pro gets an upgrade, I have no problem giving the upgrade a try. 😁
I always learn something new from your well done, comprehensive videos, Kim. I'd be really interested in a presentation about how AI is used by hackers and by corp. security folks/applications. About 3 years ago I did a guest lecture at a local college for a class on Network Security (even tho I never worked in that area). So I created a presentation: A brief history of Machine Learning and its Implications for Network Security. I covered AI techniques in gaming and speech recognition (which I worked on), ending with 2 charts on AI and security (like hackers embedding data in DNS requests to bypass firewalls or doing "credential stuffing attacks", and that some security apps use AI to learn how 'normal' apps work to detect suspicious behavior--I think that's one of the things the infamous Crowdstrike does). Anyway, with all your knowledge you might consider doing some guest lectures at colleges for extra money and exposure.
@civwar64bob77 Hi Bob! Always love reading your comments! Thank you for sharing your experience and suggestion! That's really cool that you were able to be a guest lecture. Do you have a Ph. D or Master? Maybe it's my misconception, but I've always thought guest lectures have to be really famous or extremely good at their topics with a Ph. D or Master, so I never consider myself to be good enough to even consider it. Please don't take it that I'm saying your not good. I'm simply saying that I didn't think I'm capable. LOL
@@kimandtech Undergrad dual EE and Computer Science, early retired from IBM and got a Masters in Teaching (Mathematics). Overworked teachers are always looking for real-world professionals to talk to their kids. You sure seem like an expert to me on all this, so you could always check a local community college to see if any courses might benefit and reach out to the instructor. You never know, and it might be fun too.
@@civwar64bob77 Thank you so much Bob! Greatly appreciate your wise words!!! Will definitely look into it!
Gee, u did not show how to remove the robot from the unit
This lady is smarter than the teams over at Netgear. They should listen to her, and not just turn a blind eye to all this. We want a safe and clean internet for all. I had some Wyze cams a few years back making hifi signals that made all the animals go nuts, and amazon people dropping boxes. I even showed some people by recording the wyze cameras with a different mic. They just laughed like security and safety is not important. Im like, you dont find it odd that the box drops at the same time as the sound that you cant hear happens?.... Main point safety and security should matter, when I lock something it should stay locked, when I destroy something it should remain destroyed.✌️
Hi @NullBlox . Thank you so much for your kind words and sharing your experience with the Wyze cameras. That's really good to know! Also, completely agree with your last statement! Couldn't have said it better myself! *high 5 man 🙌
