Thank you for your comment and I’m so glad it worked out great for you! Congratulations on your first plush toy and this is an amazing start! Good luck with your future projects with more and more cute plush toys!
Yes! But I could only use the non-stretchy cotton for top, sides and fins, the bottom piece I suggest to use stretchy fabric, as I did for the pink one in the video cover.
Any tips for smoothing the transition between where the top piece is attached to the side body pieces and then the side pieces are sewn directly together? I've tried a couple times and it keeps getting bunched up and funky looking
Did you use non stretchy fabric? It does happen with non stretchy fabric. It will be much easier to sew and look better with stretchy fabric. Hope this will be helpful!
This pattern is for a 3D plush toy which needs stuffing. If you don’t have polyester fiberfill, maybe you could try stuffing some fabric scraps, but it will not be as soft and round as polyester fiberfill. Or maybe you could google some free felt whale patterns, such as this one: happiestcamper.com/how-to-make-a-felt-whale-with-free-pattern/ Scrap felts are used in this tutorial to stuff the whale plush instead of polyester fiberfill. Hope this maybe helpful!
You could hand stitch the eyes with backstitch, about how to backstitch, please check the following video I made: Top 5 Hand Stitches I use for DIY Plush Toys | Step-by-step Tutorial for beginner th-cam.com/video/PNGp35h2ZdM/w-d-xo.html Hope this may be of help.
