Thank you! Married in summer of 1970; soon to be 54 years-wow. My gown was made by a seamstress, from a combination of several gowns we saw in the big bridal magazines, and the veil designed by a hat designer. Still have it! Beautiful with also seamstress -made attendant's gowns! Wonderful event. Best wishes to all. peace
I paid $55.00 for my gown plus the veil. I had to have my dress made as I weighed only 43kg.. I love the modern day dresses and I wish I could re-marry but that would be a big no, no ! Yeah, I still have my longhaired, sexy dreamboat after 53 years. Except he no longer has long hair.
So funny seeing these dresses! I got married in the early 70’s and yes, everyone had long sleeves, high waist, and high necklines. And of course the hats! Now everything is strapless, sweetheart neckline and lots of skin.
I married in 1978. My dress was a soft off-white, long sheer puffy sleeves white, a tight cuff, shear lace top, an empire waist, and a chiffon bottom with a high scalloped neck. It is gorgeous.
You mean no one has half their chest hanging out in church in front of their Dad, brother and pastor???? Mine looked like the first one. Will be 50 years in June!! ❤️
Agree 💯%. My dress looked very similar to the first one too. Congratulations on your 50th wedding anniversary. We will also be celebrating our 46th in June.
I got married in a Catholic Church. We would never have considered revealing gowns. Come to think of it, I don’t even remember them selling stuff like that.
Or divorced and 2 children and marrying in white dress. Or having 2 children already from this groom /husband and now she has finally got him @@lindaangus2307
I was about to post that first dress is my fav! Do you still have it? How awesome is your upcoming anniversary! ❤That's so wonderful....... how will you celebrate? Vaca? Dinner out? Party at your home? 😊
very beautiful and modest. I loved my dress and headpiece. Sister had the popular rainbow wedding. Dresses with the empire waist is flattering on every body. And the wide brimmed floppy hats were also populat
I agree with all these comments, the wedding gowns of today are far from respectible, too much being shown. Be mysterious don't reveal everything. The brides of today look like hoochies.
I got married in ‘81, but had a similar style. Empire waist on someone petite hits halfway between under the bust and at the waist. Add high split collar, bishop sleeves, lace on the bodice and cuffs, and that was my gown. Still love it to this day.
I got married in 1972 we will celebrating 52 years together this year! I had an empire waist dress with a long bishop sleeves and a finger tip veil. I remember it was an off the rack dress from JC Penny. It cost $42 and the veil was $17 . Why do young people think they need to take out a mortgage size loan to get married? The average bride back then usually had a modest dress , a simple church wedding and a reception at the church hall and maybe one bridal shower held by family and friends at home. Weddings have now morphed into monstrous extravaganzas with a budget larger than the national debt. Then 7 months later the couple is in divorce court.
When I see prom dresses and wedding dresses of today I cringe at the very low necklines and backs. I'm not a prude but I think big boobs and cleavage is just not appropriate.
So much simpler and more elegant than the fussier styles that the Eighties would bring. I prefer Queen Noor's and Princess Caroline's gowns to Princess Diana's fluffy one.
Princess Alexandre ,Her Gown and bridesmaids were classic understated Elegance .As was Lady Sarah Armstrong Jones.. beautiful wedding and flowers . Brides today follow celebrity culture and end up wearing gowns and carrying bouquets which look ridiculous. sad but true.
I was married a month before so my dress still had the 70s look. I was lucky. After that you could not find a nice gown. Went gown shopping with a friend about 10 years later. Everything was hidious. And giant butt bows on everything. She had it removed.
All so modest. My sister married in the mid 1960's and her dress was made by our mum.... (as were our bridesmaids dresses and her own very smart shift dress and jacket in velvet... Oh the rude words I learned with that velvet suit!!!!). My sister's dress would have been still in fashion in the 70's
My mother made my sister's bridesmaid dresses and my two other bridesmaids made their own. The bodices of their dresses were red velvet because my wedding was around Christmas.
I got married in September 1970. I had a long sleeve empire waist street length wedding dress. My side of the family thought I was pregnant ( only baby I had was born in 1973). I no longer have the dress, but I’m still married to the same man 54 years later. Modern gowns make brides look slutty.
Anyone else notice how young the brides and grooms are? Looks like early 20’s. We were 20 and 21 in ‘76. All our friends married at around the same age. Not like today. Average bride is 28 or so and grooms are 30-ish.
I had a hat with a wide pink brim, dress with high neck and long sleeves, ballooned from elbow to wrist. Bridesmaid had similar style dress, white with pink floral and white hat, posies pink and white. Laura Ashley heavy influence in early 70s, mine was 1973. My friends husband had a dark blue velvet suit with frilly shirt, long hair and beard and platform shoes, his family said he looked like Austin Powers!
My husband and I were married in 1970 and Mum made my dress. It had long sleeves, empire line and sleeves and bodice were trimmed with galoon lace. I loved it. I find it distasteful when I hear young women say they want to look sexy on their wedding day. I wanted to look desirable.
We married on October 31, 1970. Yup, Halloween… My dress was traditional, like the couple on the top of the wedding cake……white satin , long sleeve, buttons all up and down the back zipper and all around down the wrist area…It will be 54 years this October…
Married 1968. My mom had my gown and veil preserved and boxed. I still have it in its sealed box all these 56 years later. Bridal gowns today look like Las Vegas showgirl gowns with the deep cleavage and tight butts. Prom dresses are so short and tight absolutely nothing is left to the imagination. Goes along with our failed culture.
You can laugh, but at least these gowns covered what needed to be covered on buxom women. The mermaid look today is not for everyone, and yet more brides are choosing that awful line!!
My mom married in 1977. Waring a high neck and some what short dress. With flowers in her hair. My parents got married in reno. Plus the waist was also a little high. So she looked good. I asked about waist. It was Because I was also at the wedding. But I was the size of a bean at the time.
I stood up in 2 weddings in the 70s I was a flower for both of my cousins 2 weeks apart from each other 😂 talk about stress my mom had me coming and going with alterations 😂
Most of these 70s wedding dresses still look very appealing (minus their fussy hats/veils). The long sleeves, long flowing/unstructured skirts, and clean lines look very flattering on all of these women, and look very easy-breezy/comfortable. Very different from the big, fussy styles that would become popular in the 80s. What didn't age as well were the bright/loud bridesmaids' dresses and men's suits.
I got married in 1973 and my gown had long mutton style sleeves, a high neck, it was high waisted. It looked like a Renaissance gown with an open pleat down the front with lace inset. It cost $125 and I did my own hair, nails and makeup.
I bought my off the rack wedding dress in 1972 at JC Pennys it cost $40 empire waist, bishop sleeves, high neck, floor length, white. Very pretty very modest. I still have it in my closet will be married 52 years this year. Things are so different now. Brides walking into church ( if they bother even getting married in church anymore) half naked with everything hanging for everyone to see. It used be that if their was too much skin showing you’d be required to wear some type of lace coverup over the top of your wedding dress in churches. In stead of raising the bar they lowered the standard. How many royal brides have you seen walk into a cathedral in Europe with their chest hanging out ??? None that I know of. There’s no point in modesty in a bride anymore they most likely are already shacked up with the groom with a couple of kids they already had , not to mention they could have been married before and most don’t bother even getting married in a church. So the truth is they should dress like street walkers cause they’ve already been there and done that. No need for modesty because honestly there are no modest ladies left. ( Do not even get me started on putting a white gown on a bride covered in tattoos that make her look like Ray Bradbury’s Illustrated man. It make about as much sense as putting lipstick on a pig.) In a word fashion now is not liberty it is total license.

I can't believe that there are no cleavage all the way down to the kitty cat or down to the but cracks and rhinestones all over the dress. Also, their parents don't have breast all in their faces. And what about no skin tight gowns!!!
@@joanwood9480 I only remember a pale yellow being used, and that mostly in the “rainbow” weddings where each bridesmaid wore a different color. I never saw a bright yellow, and the only gold ones I remember were a metallic gold, and those were not very attractive on the poor girls, either! Thank goodness I never had to wear a yellow one! There was only one time I ended up wearing one I didn’t really like, and the bride didn’t find out I didn’t care for it until they had been married for 18 years… She asked why I hadn’t spoken up, and I told her it was her wedding and she liked them, so it didn’t really matter if I liked it or not. She said she’d only picked those dresses because she thought we’d be able to wear them for other events…
Your wedding should be classy not vulgar. Women dressed very modest in the 70's compared to today. Very nice!
Yes. My one niece froze in her strapless gown. The other niece, along with her bridemaids, were all dangerously sunburned. Both were outdoor wedding.

These are very pretty and modest wedding gowns. I don’t understand the show- all sexy gowns of today.

Yes, I love the modest dresses too. Empire waists really don't look good on everyone but, it's a nice option for those who can wear them .
@lydiapicano8806 Empire waists make you look shapeless and/or pregnant. Not a fan except in historical or maternity clothing.
Nice modest dresses ☺️

I haven't heard that word in ages! It's true you are correct...... 😮
I LOVE the Wedding dresses then. Felt sorry for the brides maids many times.

Nothing wrong with big boobs as long as they're covered in public. I'm no prude either but some people have no self-respect nor respect for others.
Well said Sandra.
Simply beautiful ❤
Amazing
Beautiful and muy modest like they should be ❤

They at least got married back then 11:03

Beautiful gowns. But the tuxs are pretty awful.

strapless gowns have no place in a church wedding
I watch these videos and wonder if I’ll see ours pop up. Wonder where you get the pics from snd if you have permission to publish them. Just curious.
UGH! I’d forgotten how awful they were. Thank God my daughter had more beautiful gowns to choose from when she got married recently.
As long as she didn't stand in front of a priest or minister with her boobs spilling out everywhere.
