Thanks for this ma. I use this your method to sew my skirt’ but when I was about to shape it was difficult’cus the back was wide than the front pic’ my question is do we use the front measurement to shape the front while the back measurement to shape the back?
It's only normal for the back to be wider than the front cos of the half inch you removed from the front hip and added to the back

Thank you so much I appreciate you . So the fitting part is not so compulsory, but as this is a pencil skirt I wanted the side seam to not just follow the curve of my hips, I also wanted it follow the curve of my thighs as Well. if you observed,I used a straight ruler to connect the point on the hip to the point on the knee. So if you don’t want to go through the fitting process, I’d advise you use a trouser curve ruler if you have one to connect hip point to knee point. make sure you place the shallow part of the trouser curve ruler, on the hip point while the curvy part should be towards the knee before connecting both point together.

Yeah I experienced this also with my very first attempt/ experience on pencil skirt.Taking a straight line from the hips down to the floor length made my skirt have a kind of bulging somewhere below my knee.So the trouser curve ruler would fix that which am gonna do now.Dear sew mate Thanks for this sincere corrections.You' re 😍
Good morning Ma. I just came across this video now. Very well detailed. Please I have a question. When you divide the hip measurement by 4 which gave you 10inches, you marked 9 for the front hip since you removed 1 to add to the back. I thought the back skirt hip will still be the same 9inches at the side, then that 1 inch you removed in front will now be added at the zipper part? Please explain better to me Ma. Thank you
I did a video previously before this video , where I made a mistake just by copying the front to create the back pattern ;I had to remake this video to correct that mistake.
so if you copy the front which is 9” at the side to create the back piece and then add 1” at the zipper part, your back hip will be 10” in total which means you have 38” as your total hip circumference which makes it 2” less than the hip circumference , that would be wrong .
So to answer your questions , the front side seam is 9” but the back side seam should be 10 “ then the 1” you removed from the front should be added to the center back which makes the back a total of 11”
Back becomes 11×2 = 22
Front becomes 9×2 =18
Total = 40”
I've watched the video and now understand fully well. Thank you so much for the correction ooo, I calculated it too and saw that it would have been 2inches shorter if you copy front pattern to the back. The back must be the complete formula then you add what you removed from the front to the zipper side. Thank you very much
Honestly this mistake happened to me though I didn't watch from your channel.Mine is also hip 40 & I added one and half inch allowance for sed then turned lace/ linning with half inch seams for front/ back panel.Now am left with 40"" so if I sew 1" each my hips wud be 38(sad).My saving grace now is somehow I have 1/4 " each to pinch to join the sides else......am DOOMED
Very nice tutorial ma. But I noticed you did not consider the band when drafting the skirt ma would it affect the vertical measurements ma
A basic waist band is usually attached to the waist line of the basic skirt that starts exactly from the “NATURAL WAIST LINE”. The thickness of the basic waist band is 1¹/₄” . So this adds to your vertical measurements so when you attach the band it sits 1¹/₄ inches or 1½” at most above your natural waist line “technically”. But for personal fit, let’s say you like your skirt to sit exactly round your natural waist line normally then you can subtract your waist band thickness or width from your vertical measurement after drafting your skirt pattern. In this case when sewing for yourself or clients always ask your clients where they want their skirt to sit ….Above natural waist or below natural waist then draft your skirt accordingly .

No I added ½ inch seam allowance but you can add 1 inch seam allowance it’s safer

Yes you can. just make sure the direction of the zipper follows the curve of the seam as you sew . The easy way to do this is to first patiently hand stitch your zipper with a basting stitch before sewing with machine.

It’s a Matter of choice though I would rather you use a thicker lining instead
What is nip to nip?
Bust point to bust point or Apex of the bust
For a client that has fuller buttux and lesser hip how do you go about it?
Easy way to do this is to take the back hip arc that is you measure from the side of her hip over the butt to the other side ; This is your Back hip arc
The only challenge here is to find the accurate side of her body so Just make sure you eyeball her body to get her side line .
Subtract the back hip arc from the hip circumference to get your front hip arc
And use this instead of the whole calculation we did
I tried this out and all i can say is Thanks for this video ma. My skirt became so mich better. But i have a problem, the zip always leave a bulge at the end. Please what could be the reason?
Very huge tendency you would have a bulge if care not taking when sewing . One solution would be curving your zip in about ¹/₄ “ at that part you might have a bulge . also cutting your fabric along the grain line would reduce the possibility of having the bulge . If your fabric has a little stretch might also be the problem.But if you have time and patience I would prefer you hand stitch the zipper first before using your Machine .

Yes I believe everything can use it . Depending on the figure you can either subtract 1” or ½ of an inch
