I'm so happy that you're finding my content helpful. Unfortunately I don't have access to an Alaris pump. All the equipement that I showcase and explain is what is used at my facility. But if we ever change to the Alaris PCA, I will have a video up the follwoing week.

It seems like if you prime the drug to the end of the tubing and than start the IVF, are you not giving the patient a small unordered bolus when the IVF starts? Would it not be better to just prime to the Y-site where the IVF starts? Thanks for the videos

I haven't reviewed this video in a while because my hospital stopped using this pump shortly after I made the videos. As I watch it, I do agree with you. I was showing this based on the documents my facility had on how to set up the pumps, but it seems better if you attached the saline primed tubing from your regular infusion pump directly to the patient, then attached the PCA tubing to the Y port of that line. That way you never have the saline moving through any part of the PCA pump tubing and pushing primed med out. You just add your PCA pump medication to the constantly infusing saline line. Or if you attach the tubing the way shown in the video, before you attach to the patient, run saline through the line to push out all the PCA medication from the tubing distal to the Y port.
This seems like a better way to set it up to ensure the proper dosing of your patient.
