Great tune and good memories Old Guy! I was three years out of H.S. and drafted into the Army when that song came out. Those were the good old days! 👍👍📀📀
I worked with Reg a few times in the '80s, and he was a fun guy with a very nice family. Somewhere I have that original Atco single that I bought back in the old days with a note from Reg on it. Thanks for a very well-researched video!
I fondly remember the song from my youth....I do have a favourite Garage Band tune from the mid 60's that I would love you to cover on your fine channel. That being " Double Shot of My Baby's Love", by The Swingin' Medallions. Thanks....
I got to meet Reg Presley at a club they were playing at back in the 70's. Had beer at the bar with him and heard a lot of the story about the recording session. He was friendly and funny.
Presley, of course, became unexpected and astonishingly rich int he mid 90's, when We Wet Wet spent 15 weeks at number one with "Love Is All Around". I read in Mojo at the time he was planning to put some of the money towards researching crop circles. Good for you, Reg!
Fascinating! I'll have to listen to this again later to get more of the details. I wanted to be a singer in a rock and roll band in my youth, but the music business is so complicated I'm rather glad I never tried to get into it.
Good job on this one. Such a great story that I never knew. Nor did I know about the Gerry Granahan connection to the original demo and subsequent 45. Wish I had spoken to Gerry in 1985 @Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel in Providence when I had the chance but I had no idea about his career other than Link Wray going on about that Dickie Do and The Don’ts song “Née Nee Na Na Nu Nu”. Just looked up his career and it’s interesting. Was VP of Dot and Paramount Records too.
Super cool! I have a request. One of my favorite songs from the 60’s is “ popsicles icicles” by the mermaids. I often play the chords on my guitar and have always felt that melody is really something special. Just a thought. Thanks!
You know, call me stumped, but I have looked at doing a piece on the fan club and the records several times but I can’t yet build an interesting story about it. All I have is a laundry list of factoids and that makes for a boring video.
You didn't give them credit for "Love is all around", written by Reg, recorded by and a hit for the Troggs and a massive hit for Wet Wet Wet when used as the theme for the film "Four Weddings and a Funeral" in 1994.
@ oh! It’s what they used on the demo for the solo. The demo has not survived as far as I know. But an ocarina does have the same timbre to it. The technique is to clinch you hands together with your thumbs vertically aligned. You can blow between the thumbs to cause a whistle that can be varied in pitch by moving the thumbs closer together.
Of course, the best version of 'Wild Thing' was done not by The Troggs or Jimi Hendrix. It was put to good use by our own Senator Bobby: th-cam.com/video/-LE0aToTtGY/w-d-xo.html
This was the first song I learned on guitar in 1969, I was 11! The changes are quicker than one would think.
Another good one. The classic Wild Thing. I remember this hitting the radio in 1966. I still have the Atco 45.
I noted that the collector market puts no particularly higher value on it either. Seems like it would be somewhat more desirable.
Saw Wild Thing.
Think it'll moved me.
Wanted to be sure.
Clicked on Wild Thing

Wrong Wild Thing

Yeah. Unforgettable earworm. LOL.
1966 Panama City Florida. One of the big hits of that summer.
Thanks for the view!
Another journeyman's research piece of work! I enjoyed the story which was all new information to me! "Garage band" memories make for fond reflection.
Hi, Bade! Thanks a million man!

That’s a great collector’s item! Thanks for watching and for the great comment!
I've been playing 'Wild Thing' a lot on my guitar lately.
For those who may not realize, Chip Taylor is the uncle of Angelina Jolie.
4 weeks at #1 in the Old Home Town, from July 27 1966!
Woof!
AWESOME, AND AMAZING, AS ALWAYS!... You know that EVERYONE is getting this!
I'm glad you think so! Thanks as always, Tim!

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll see what I can dig up. Never came across that one.

How kool!

Terrific as usual...My favorite by Chip Taylor is "I Can't Let Go" made famous by Evie Sands, The Hollies and Linda Ronstadt
Yeah. The guy wrote a lot of stuff!

The business can eat you alive.
@@the_guitar_trooper I don't doubt that for a minute!!
@@the_guitar_trooper I'm sure it can.

Hi Marty! Yeah, he was one of those industry icons that shows up over and over. I had not realized it until this piece.

That is part of a long piece that’s in the works about David Gates. I have it planned for 2025 but it’s not yet in preproduction.
Phenomenal retune! Game changer!
Yep. It is said to be the foundation of Punk.
That helps to understand Wild Thing. I never thought it had much substance
Thanks Kenneth! Great to see you on the channel again!
Another great video
Thanks for watching!
Love it!
Hi Jeff! Thanks!
Awesome job 👏 do a Beatles Christmas 🎄 Albam and how they were sent out to the fan club..

@@the_guitar_trooper I believe Andrew from the Parologram You Tube channel has covered The Beatles Christmas Records.
Very good video as usual. Jimi Hendrix also played a live version at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967.
Yep. I have a Version Verdict Short on this that includes his version just for fun. By the way…. Is this Chris or Sherri?

“Love Is All Around” is a future subject!
Which part was the first whistle? In minute amount please.i want to hear again ty guitar trooper.
Whistle? Not in “Wild Thing”
@the_guitar_trooper I was thinking something they said said about a hand type whistle+ I may been mistaken. Sorry about that.
@@the_guitar_trooperit was 7:34 something about a fist whistle.

The first version of Wild Thing I heard was Jimi Hendrix live.
Wow.
Chip was also very involved with The Monkees.
Yep. See my video th-cam.com/video/av0PqCedNFs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Z-RQsrIvmrj9gHyD
Question, which version was better, Jimi Hendrix or the Troogs?
Depends upon which chemical was in one’s bloodstream I guess. LOL
Chip Taylor, John Voight's brother and Angelina Jolie's uncle.
Including Jimi Hendrix in 1967 at Monterey Festival.
Yeah. That was one that you had to be there for.
Instead of just mentioning a parody version, it would have been nice to hear a few seconds of 'Kennedy' 😂 It's been 50+ years after all.
Granted. An oversight on my part!
Remember the flip side? Sen. Everett Dirkson! The real one had recently had a bizarre hit record about America, although I can't remember it now.
were Garage Bands Punk? or were Punk Bands Garage?...
No no. Garage Punks were bands. There.
