Beautiful work Imogen .. I love your work it’s amazing especially the secretes from the fairy house , I’ve just got this book and I’m so scared to colour in it as I don’t want to ruin it tysmfs 🥰
Hello Imogen! I love this series, and find it very helpful but don't understand the base and layering bit. When you build up your layers do you focus on only certain areas depending on if it's the main part, shaded part, or highlighted part? The video made it seem as if you just build up all the layers all over but that doesn't seem right. Would love to see an example close up.
So sorry for the late reply Amy - so a layer/base (B1 for example) is a base of colour all over the area, say a flower. Then, unless specified, I work from top to bottom on the list and that is generally dark to light, and I use the colours to blend from dark to light. The darkest colour just tends to be used in the place where I want shadow, not as a layer over the whole thing. Then if there is a shadow (S1 for example) that is the colour I use to go back over the colouring with to add depth. If there is a highlight (H1) this means I only use the colour for a highlight at the end. Hope that makes sense x
Hi Julie, I've used quite a few different brands, but hopefully I specify in the video for each page? Mostly black widow pencils and holbein I think :)
I loved your pages... I have a big favor to ask... next time you do a video like this... can you please zoom in and focus on the pages that you wrote down the colors and pencils that you used. That would be a big help... thanking you in advance... ;o)
Hi Shelly, thank you so much for your feedback, of course I can, that's no problem. It's always good to know how I can improve. Hopefully an April, May, June video will be coming at some point in July xx

Have you tried intense new pencils
I haven't Julie, no, I have a few Inktense, but tend to only use them for art projects. Have you got them - what do you think of them?
What pencils did you use

I agree! Imogen is my favorite colorist but she is far more advanced than me and it is sometimes hard for me to understand what she is talking about.
