One thing which we should not forget is that Mig 21 was developed after 2nd world War during 1960s to quickly intercept the enemy air crafts while flying in mainly in stream line flow with lesser manouverabilty and return quickly to their base so that even if any of the Mig21 gets hitted by enemy air craft the pilot could return to it safer place as soon as possible and that's why they were deployed close to border areas. The speed of Mig 21 plays an important role in its operations. Mig 21 is a legend, even its rival countries admit it but now its time to give rest to this bird.

But most of the critical components are still imported. You could more accurately call it Indian designed and assembled. But made in India has totally meaning. the whole concept of lwa is to be very quick and more agile than any other middle or heavy class jets. For tejas to replace mig21(50+years old) it should be faster than and much more agile than mig21. Tejas cannot match let alone beat this. It is not the best design, it does not meet the basic requirements. Manufacturers should easily be able to build large quantity and scramble them quicker than any other plane. I dont want to name but a certain adversary has achieved that and below cost- their plane is just not as stealthy, although it is a top class design. Tejas may be good but the design is draggy and it does not meet the requirement! Solution- even more powerful engine and change design- tail wing of delta section.

Why doesn't ADA work on reducing drag? Reducing the wing area would reduce drag, give higher speed, more payload capacity and longer range. Also using canards would make it more maneuverable as well as provide shorter lift offs?
What is cost of Mig-21 , & what is cost of LCA. In one LCA cost any one can buy 5 MIG - 21 . Can LCA counter 5 MIG 21 at a time. If no, then comparison is worth less. No doubt LCA is a good one as it is 1st 4th generation fighter made by HAL.

Sir I have two questions first is that will tejas mk1a will come with Uttam radar. And second that why IAF ‘s aircraft looks a little dirty as compared to other countries with same air crafts such as mig 29 and jaguar is it the weather
you talked about the edge that mig-21 gets in maneuverability due to less wing area, but I think you can maneuver only if you were airborne, due less wing area mig-21 requires more take off/ landing run, especially this numbers increase in higher altitude due less dense air and if runway gets damage it cannot be airborne, while LCA can take off from the shorter runways!
Mig 21 is a good plane, but its role is limited in modern scenario because of its air frame limitations. It just cannt in house modern equipment in it.
MiG 21 is actually from 60s and is so good design that even now it can challenge modern aircrafts in dogfights, not only Tejas, It can even challenge F 16, so don't blame Tejas.. it's just the MiG 21 is so damn good.

Why doesn't ADA work on reducing drag? Reducing the wing area would reduce drag, give higher speed, more payload capacity and longer range.

you talked about the edge that mig-21 gets in maneuverability due to less wing area, but I think you can maneuver only if you were airborne, due less wing area mig-21 requires more take off/ landing run, especially this numbers increase in higher altitude due less dense air and if runway gets damage it cannot be airborne, while LCA can take off from the shorter runways!
Mig 21 is a good plane, but its role is limited in modern scenario because of its air frame limitations. It just cannt in house modern equipment in it.

MiG 21 is actually from 60s and is so good design that even now it can challenge modern aircrafts in dogfights, not only Tejas, It can even challenge F 16, so don't blame Tejas.. it's just the MiG 21 is so damn good.
