  • The guitar interplay by Little Walter (!) and Jimmy Rogers never fails to amaze me on this great 78 from 1951 on Chess Records. Listening with headphones is the best way to really follow the details of how they are interlocking. There's a nice yin-yang with the attacks here. Jimmy has these cascading lines during Little Walter's super aggressive solo. All this to say, this is my jam! LW freaks: did he use a pick? I think so but I'm not 100%. Obviously, we must find out lol! Jimmy sounds like he's using just his fingers. The two ways he hits the B7 chord are important to master. Have fun trying each of these parts! As always share any Jimmy stories in the comments, or LW stories for that matter! AND Sorry for some of the wind sounds on this lesson!

Johnny, Your downhome Chicago electric blues lessons are the best - and the way you explain "weaving guitars"! Apparently, Little Walter played a LOT of guitar on Maxwell Street - man, he was a gritty player! Hey Johnny, remember Muddy Waters' lead guitar break in "Rollin Stone" (1950) ...where he walks those notes down from the V chord? ... well, it sounds like Jimmy and Little Walter took notes!

Just a foot note everyone should check out Bob Margolins guitar solo on Deep Down in Florida from Muddy Mississippi Waters live. Bob plays this exact guitar solo. It sounds awesome

thanks so much Donnie although I know of great folks out there like Skyler Saufley, Jon Atkinson, Billy Flynn (Cash Box Kings), Aki Kumar, The Silver Kings, that really go into that style. Rock on!
