Another quick tip....when sewing small or delicate things, start stitching on a small scrap of fabric first, then butt your pattern piece up to that scrap without cutting. It eliminates the start from bunching up and being a mess. You just cut the scrap off after.
So I sucked at the neckband. So I was messing about with this pattern the other day and I decided to make a facing and topstitch it down. And by a facing, I took a square of what made t-shirt out of and after I stitch the shoulder seams, stitched my square around the neck hole. Then trimmed the middle out and excess on the edges and pressed and stitched it down. I was really pleased with the result. Lelouch finally has a top. He's most pleased.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU !!! This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for! I have the worst time with doll necklines, and I never thought of doing it in 2 pieces. You are my hero!
Thank you for a your videos! I was struggling with the tshirt, Jersey material sucks. With your tutorials, I started using my walking foot and double needle and it turned out perfect. I can’t thank you enough. I love all of your videos.
Thank you so much for this video, very helpful! I really love all the detail and explaining you did and how you show every step without speeding it up. I really should of started with this pattern first lol It would of saved me lots of headaches that I had with the hooded sweater. :)
Oh, thank goodness! I messed up my doll's collar big time, but she's been stuck in it for months because I ran out of thread, and it's the only shirt she has. Thank you so much for this, I just got some more thread, so I'll definitely be giving this a try! On another note, I noticed that you have a video that uses an altered version of the free pants pattern. Would you be willing to show us how to use the original pattern?
I sure will! I've got a different video coming out first, but after that I'll probably do the unaltered pants. They've been requested a few times now, lol.
I use a walking foot! That combined with some practice makes it much easier. Before I had one though, I used a stabilizer between the fabric and the feed dogs (in my case, white computer paper because I never remembered to pick up the fancy dissolving stuff, lol)
I watched all your videos and figured I owed you a thank you. Thanks to you inspiring me, I rescued an old sewing machine from a scrap pile (with Disney stickers all over it) last week and got it running for about $30 in parts. My learning curve is off the scale as I know nothing. WTH is tension? Zig zag stitch - looks like a bunch of W's? I tried this T-shirt tonight -failure unfortunately. I could have finished what I started, but it was clear that would have been a waste of fabric. I'll retry tomorrow. Thanks very much for taking the time to post these vids - they are very helpful and inspirational. - Dave. Incidentally, how many Smart Dolls do you own?
I'm really glad my videos are inspiring you! I think a t-shirt as a first try is going to be pretty difficult, stretchy stuff can be challenging even if you have experience using a sewing machine. A gathered skirt might be a nice stepping stone to help get familiar with the machine. (I currently have 9 Smartdolls, they've definitely taken over my collection, lol.)
Sorry! I didn't notice until days later and it was too late to change. You can see the shirt upside right here though! instagram.com/p/B8ASNomJrFl/?igshid=89q8jxpfih6w
Thank you for the nice video. My first t-shirt was pretty crooked with lots of skipped stitches. ^__^; I switched to a ballpoint need and my second one looks pretty good. Do you do anything special to the fabric when you make colored t-shirts? I am a little paranoid about staining with my new Smart Doll...
I wash the material before I sew with it, and test anything I sell on vinyl chips for a few days. If something is very dark I'll use those color catcher sheets that absorb excess dye and just keep washing with a new one until it doesn't get stained.
@@UnderOrange Thanks! I will try and get some color catchers sheets. What do you mean by "vinyl chips"? Do you have bits of Smart Doll vinyl? Or just any old vinyl bits?
If you ask nicely in the comment box while placing an order with CJ, sometimes they have junk chips laying around that they'll toss into your order for you! If a lot of people ask at once, they might not always have them on hand though.
@@UnderOrange Thanks for the tip! Wish I had thought of asking... It will be a long time (if ever) before I get to place another order. In the meantime, I am thinking of sacrificing a blank Obitsu head. Parabox has the flash form casting available as a free addon, that could work too maybe. I know the vinyl composition may be different, but better than nothing.
I've sewn from a lot of different patterns and I think it helps me figure it out by having an idea of what I need ahead of time. I talk a bit about the symbols and what they mean in this video to give you more background information, I hope it helps! th-cam.com/video/z4G8_cEn684/w-d-xo.html

I do this with tear-away stabilizer and it is a game-changer!

That's a good idea! I haven't tried that method yet, but I could definitely see how that would make a nice finish.
The collar is gorgeous. I am definitely going to do it your way next time.
Thank you! I definitely find this the easiest way. I am dying to know how Culture Japan does theirs though, lol.
Nice work! Thanks for the tutorial.
Wonderful! I learn so much! You're a good teacher.

😄 I'm so glad it helps! They're really so tricky, lol it took so much trial and error to find a method I like.
Absolutely fabulous love to watch you sew ,I learn a lot from you thank, keep making them videos there absolutely fabulous ‼️🧵🌹😊
this is INCREDIBLE

I'm so happy it helped! I got very stubborn about sewing knits at one point and just tried every internet tip I could find, lol.

Thank you for making this video!
Great work ❤
But how do you prevent that stretchy fabric from stretching under the machine? 😅
I use a walking foot! That combined with some practice makes it much easier. Before I had one though, I used a stabilizer between the fabric and the feed dogs (in my case, white computer paper because I never remembered to pick up the fancy dissolving stuff, lol)
First of all thanks for the video. Love it.
Do you also have this pattern in English? Or do you know where I can buy it in English? Thank you!

Very helpful, thank you SO MUCH
This is really helpful. Can you do the pants pattern?
It's on my to-do list for sure, there will probably be other videos out first though since I already have footage for them.

can i upload these patterns to Cricut design space for my machine to cut out?
I've never tried that, to be honest, I have no idea!
How do you read Danny choos patterns for the smart doll?? Like all the symbals and stuff??
