No way!!! I used to live there!! In Blakley Hall Road. Just under the motorway! When I was about seven years old, there was a crash on the motorway and debris ended up l coming through my bedroom window.

Crikey!!! As i walked away from the area I imagined a flippin big juggernaut coming over the top, Your encounter confirms these things could easily happen. Its great to hear from someone who lived along there, thanks Alex

I lived the other end of the road, the one that's now got the factory unit on it. My dad worked at the scrap yard there (used to be called Fosters).
Despite the hazards - the emissions, the plumes of weird grey dust and the odd wheel flying though your window, it was a great place to grow up and I've still got a bit of an attachment to the place.
      Thanks for covering it Phil.

0:59 The grey building has only been constructed in the last two years. Before that, it was the site of Crystal House, which was the Bass Taverns data centre. It moved to this location in the early 90's from Guardian House in West Bromwich. I worked there until it closed in 2003.

Eerie sighting at time stamp 2:14, Can anyone see the eerie faces?
1st one is very prominent in front of the 3rd floor right window, 2nd one is on the middle floor just above the far left window and the 3rd is above the the 1st floor left window.

Well spotted the photo of the farm building at 2.14 could be an overexposure but there certainly appears to be a ghostly image on the 3rd storey window.

I remember as a small child stood in front of the telly (black and white 😁) and my Mom would say " if yow was med at Chances we'ed see through ya" .

Hi Phil I worked on the Railway and from the track you would see the old Chances Glass works I always enjoy the history of the area your walking around I bet the houses next to the motorway get reduced rates and if you lived there do you think they notice the back ground noise if you've lived for a long time Happy New year all the best Paul

Interesting maybe there housing tax band could be a lot lower than most and yes I'd say they would over time become desensitised to the appalling drone

Time stamp 4:44 the road with the ‘to let’ sign, Cadburys had a small factory there for a while, not sure if they actually made any chocolates there or if it was part of their distribution plant. Long gone now, it was there for a while then just ´disappeared ´, 😮 like everything does 🧐

I remember it too I'm sure. Infact I'm sure it was the place that had a bowling green next to it (most likely from it's previous industry) that we visited to learn how to cut and roll it when I was a young man back in the early 80's learning horticulture.

I suppose a house next to a busy motorway will be very cheap to buy or rent. There is a road near me where a main line railway goes under a motorway.

Omg no I would not like that, I remember when they was building the Tameside housing estate that is under the motorway and very noisy, check that estate out, the one off Walsall road and turning off to yew tree

I followed you on Google Maps street view Phil. I remember when the motorway was being built. My Nan used to live on the Oldbury road. I'm sorry but even watching videos of the area where I was born and brought up is very depressing.

@@awalkwithphil It got that way in the early 70's. Has nothing to do with immigrants starting their own businesses (good luck to them). We had immigrants in Smethwick way before it became fashionable. Look at the canals, the parks, the railways the public buildings and the factories. When were they made? What is being made now? The Black Country has lost its way and doesn't have a map.

No way the noise and debris would get on my nerves , I remember a news program about the houses right by the motorway, they used to get black particles all over there windows and frames , can’t be good for your health

Some people like the noise. If I was some kind of serial killer, bringing my victims back to the house, the traffic noise would drown out their screams. All im saying is there is a house for everyone, even if it doesnt appeal to most.

I'd really rather not! I live about 100 yards from a main road nothing like that busy and get deposits of soot on window sills inside just from having a window in that locked slightly open position.

Also they'll probably demolish the elevated section at some point and downgrade the road. The highways agency must compensate you if their road building devalues your property, but you dont have to compensate them if road downgrading upvalues your property, so it is win win.
