Video idea: Do a G9 sizing video, go to a store with a measuring tape and give real life measurements on all the sizes. The Baracuta G9 has possibly the most confusing sizes and size guides of any garment. I bet your video would get hella clicks lol. Promote the store in the video and I’m sure they’d be happy to let ya film in there.
I got my G9 around 20 year ago before the last time the company changed hands and really jacked up their prices. I got a nice Moreno wool sweater too. Still got my Harrington today. It's a staple piece.
FYI: Baracuta has a 40% sale on their "last pieces" selection (at least in the EU) until the 30th of September. Basically 40% off on some less popular colors (e.g "faded black" instead of "black").
I had the G9 bug for a while, couldn't bring myself to it. I took a risk on a brooks brothers copy and was really surprised. Had all the nice details but I believe it was a mostly nylon shell and the tartan lining didn't quite span the entire interior. I just bought a Classic Bedale off of your recommendation, can't wait!
Lord Lovat commanded a Commando of Special Service troops during WW2 and took part in a number of actions including the ill fated Dieppe raid in which his was just about the only successful element, destroying 6 155mm guns. His unit also raided the Lofoten Islands and seized code books, took over 200 prisoners and generally had a great time blowing things up. He was also depicted in the film The Longest Day where his Commando was shown being led ashore by his piper Bill Millin. This jacket is lined with the Fraser tartan, which is his family name. Nice jacket by the way.
Super stoked you reviewed this g9. It is too steep for the price but on the used market I think it is worth every penny. The zippers are great the buttons are sturdy. As you pointed out the stitching is impeccable. When it gives up the ghost at the sleeves tailors are great at fixing it. I own the Steve McQueen version by Barbour as well. The baracuta gets worn way more often because the wax cotton on the Barbour doesn’t breath. The Barbour is also super short which looks odd when worn without a sweatshirt. Love my g9 and is perfect to pair with a tshirt in NYC temps between the hi 50s to hi 60s. Dude you look great in this jacket and it fills a different place in your wardrobe from the heavy outerwear I am accustomed to seeing you rock. Love iron snail reviews. Cheers KK
The G9 is great jacket even after the WiP takeover. There are some which are still UK-made if you can find them. Valstar's showerproof A-1 Valstarino is also a great option - though it fits a little slimmer.
I clicked on this video because I saw the thumbnail clip of you saying what’s up ladies and you have very few ladies that watch your videos according to the stat you shared, and I wanted to laugh. Thanks
The comment by Winston Churchill came from Lord Lovat's experience as a British Commando who bravely fought hand-to- hand in World War II. As a national hero, his tartan fabric representing his Fraser clan was considered a very manly choice for the lining of the jacket.
I know they're very different but I've been torn between getting this jacket and the Barbour Steve McQueen jacket since I heard about them both a few years ago. Both are a classic look but different veins of classic. At the very least both have the McQueen seal of approval.
I tried a baracuta G9 and I wasn’t impressed. Especially for 500 bucks. I own a Real Hoxton Harrington jacket and for 200 bucks it checks all the boxes. Made in England, back yoke, tartan lining, great hardware/buttons and fit is slim.
A question for you. Is the jacket you're wearing in black or dark navy? They're reeeeally close as far as I can see, but there's something about the dark navy that speaks to me.
Excellent review of the mod culture classic jacket! Very well put in terms of value for money! I have the Real Hoxton version of the Harrington which looks the part but much more budget friendly and also has the eggy thing on the back☺️. Thanks for the great content as per usual!
What a strange coincidence to have this video algorithmically suggested to me. Started the video and while seeing Michael on the lifeguard chair thought to myself about where he might have been that was probably obviously not NY or MA. Immediately thought that the hotel in the shot looks like the sort of buildings seen at the beach where I live in... Jacksonville, Florida. I actually thought to myself that it looks like he could be at Jacksonville Beach, buuuuut realistically, he could've been anywhere from SC to FL. Then it cut to the hotel room showing a Sabal Palm in the background... yeah, it probably is FL. Then I erupted in laughter when Michael said he was in Jacksonville Beach.
Great video! Thanks. Love the G9 but I really dislike the tall collar. Does Barakuta offer a bomber without this collar? If not, what’s your second favorite bomber jacket?
Ironically, I just mentioned the G9 in my latest vid AND used one of the same songs that you have playing in here (Ryan James Carr). Kindred spirits. Always great stuff, dude. And that jacket is dooooooooooooppppeee.
I hadn't heard of this jacket until a year or two ago. I've probably seen them a dozen times and not known the name. What a subtly splendid jacket. Definitely dope. No cap.
I have red G9 for a few years now. I bought it because i thought it is the one from rebel without a cause and later found out that jd wore a different jacket 🤷🏽♂️ At least you are back on a friday mikey! Full circle. Like I said back then 😅
Just got one. Wonder why the zipper is on the other side. My old G9 had it on the right side as you wear it. Never had a jacket with the zipper on the left.
Another great video from the Snail! I have zero short lightweight jackets like this one for the summer/spring and I am trying to make a choice between a denim jacket or something like this. Maybe The Iron Snail denim jacket? Shame that it isn't coming in black though :(
2:21 is it really called "original authetic fit"? Is it still available on the market? Where did you find this information? it seems like they no longer make a difference🤔
They have doubled in price over the last few years. They were expensive for what they were but now they’re well on their way to nice leather jacket money and they’re really not worth it. The same happened Belstaff. They went from being expensive but justifiably so as well made biker gear, to luxury items about 15-20 years. There is still companies making basically this exact same jacket for 1/10 the price and despite what some cork sniffers would claim, you really can’t tell them apart from a couple of meters away. I’m all for paying extra for something with provenance and made in an expensive western country. But I couldn’t bring myself to pay so much for something which was never supposed to be. I’d rather buy 3 inexpensive ones in different colours and leave one in the car, one at work etc. to always have one around.
It's a jacket I have considered, but I have a ton of jackets. What watch are you wearing in the Hotel? Very classic. I'm not going to guess because the view of it is not too good. Anyway being a watch geek I am curious. JP
Shall we blame your exhaustion for the caption "...and the tail(sic) of the..." ? I have a vintage made in England Baracuta G9 from the 1980s sold in the US under the Four Climbs label. It's still in excellent condition after all these years. To be honest, I prefer the G4 actually.
Great Video. I manage to get a Baracuta G9 a fair while ago on sale for a steal (barely into three figures $). It was a few years before Baracuta was sold to an Italian firm (I think around 2015?) and the prices jumped up quite a bit. I have had a good look at the post sale-of-company ones and the differences are pretty pronounced. The outer feels a lot more delicate (in a higher quality / Italian way) and the finishing is better, zippers are a fair bit more robust. Not sure of the fit differences, they used to sell regular and slim, I have the slim and I think the cut is more traditional than yours. A classic piece, you won’t regret it. I bought an off brand one for super cheap and just because it is more insulating tend to wear it more, but it isn’t the same. Would LOVE a black one, and have had it in the basket a fair few times, but I can’t justify a third one 😵💫 Going to be having a look at a 20oz secret denim ONI Type III next week……. My Levi’s type III is maybe getting a bit worn (this is what rationalising a purchase sounds like 👍)
Ah man. I was in Atlantic Beach, minutes away, at a family member's house all week! If I could have gotten a glance at the legendary Iron snail and exchanged pleasantries...man. Oh well, a life of regret isn't worth living, so I'll recover...slowly.
I got my Harrington from an op-shop. It's from a brand called British Label, that's how you know it's an authentic garment endorsed by Queen Elizabeth Harrington II herself.
Funny coincidence - I started watching your videos about 2 years ago, and at the time I lived in Jacksonville. Moved to Jersey City last year, and now you happen to do a video in Jax beach lol. Staying on topic though, Harringtons don't do much for me personally. Nice to see a double zip on this one however, should be mandatory on every jacket!
@@chrisakarazor9612 The little history I've read seems to indicate that Grenfell may have been first, but who really knows, there may have been others who preceded both makers and have faded into obscurity.
Nice. Never owned a Barracuda but did have a sweet Lacoste one that was too small for me but I wore it anyway. Let me know if you’re interested in another one
Idk bro $400? I can get a Dickies or Carhartt for $100 and have all the same features. It is a nice jacket though. I guess the history bumps up the price.
Dickies makes the quintessential Eisenhower jacket. Very understated, simple, clean lines. No wonder it's been a staple for decades. Many of my friends in high school and their dads wore some version of the Eisenhower. I grew up in a working class town. I think the Harrington is a bit more flash. Dickies only charges about $60 for theirs. I considered getting a Dickie Eisenhower. It's one of the classics. Well made and affordable. However, I have enough jackets.
There are several knock offs in the 100 to 200 dollar range that look to be decent quality and check all the boxes, except for the rain flap on the back. I recently bought a Harrington. For me the plaid lining is an important feature in a copy. Someday when I'm flush with cash, I'll get an original g9. My friend at work has a Four Climes g9.
Dude are those Kraft singles on pizza ?? Idk if I had no heads up my Caren would start flaring up... Not saying I'd call back or ask for a refund but I'd be George Costanza mode about it
Just fyi I've found that you can quite often get them on sale for just under the $250 mark online - I have three & live in NY. Also... why would you buy black?! They make this in so many beautiful colors, which is half the fun! (I have a gorgeous turmeric yellow, a 'peach', and a classic Racing Green).

I have a G9 but it’s corduroy with satin lining. After watching this video, I think it’s the same as owning a Canada Goose T-Shirt .
