    I just discovered Tim Wise a few days ago. Ive also been living in Texas for quite some time now. When I go into some of the Walgreens I can't help, but notice the black and white old "advertising" photos above the registers of happy people in the 40'd and 50' shopping. But instead of reminiscing,,,I immediately think of the lynchings,,, and all the horror that took place around the time these photos were taken. Walgreens really needs to rethink it's advertising.Thank
    you Tim Wise.

    22:49
    *"To my mind, there is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly and compassionately with one another and to preserve and cherish that pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."*

    These conversations should and need to be had if people truly want to see/be a change of good, unfortunately i can't see privileged people give up their position to let others in, if I'm wrong, please show me in the near future, i wish to be wrong on this one and that's being super hopeful

    I went to high school in Cape Girardeau , Missouri. All throughout highschool not a word was ever mentioned about the 24 slaves that were auctioned off in front of the court house in 1855.

    Ya know what I find Beautiful yet Worrysome at the same time? *I feel the time is approaching yet again where People Everywhere are being pushed to the Brink!!*
    Worrisome as I know Ultimately it makes the future particularly uncertain. Uncle Sam & Co's,'Management Sysem',has had compounding affects which,in Collision with Technological Advancements,are now coming to fruition!!
    *Their Choices both Home & Abroad have now caught up with them,as any Society which has experienced Total Collapse knows all too well!!* Many of my Fellow Americans have forgotten that we are but Babes!!!
    Yet I find this beautiful as I know that through all of the Nastiness,comes Unity!!! Just like a storm,everyone points the Finger at each other as they were taught & expected to do. However,eventually the Majority does the unexpected & Bans together against their common enemy,signaling the passing of the Storm.
    *In the wake of every storm,resides a Community Uniting togehter,even if tĥe rest of the world carries on without them!!! That is Beauty in Raw,Organic & Unfettered Form,Purity!!*

    I've heard him speak and he says pretty much the same thing Dr. Umar does but somehow when Umar says it, it doesn't hit as hard w/ the community he's trying to reach/help - yes he's flawed just as we all are, so putting his ego aside, is it the truth we don't like or who's actually giving it??

    Can we use a different descriptor other than "privileged?" Maybe "delusional," "obtuse," "oblivious," "apathetic," "intellectually lazy," or just plain "cruel."

    • @iverbrnstad791
      @iverbrnstad791 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Would you mind explaining the reasoning behind that idea? Tim Wise obviously has white privilege, but would you say any of those other descriptors fit him at all?

    • @dawnmwalton1774
      @dawnmwalton1774 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Certainly. Your point is exactly the distinction I am trying to make, and I've been trying to get someone with a greater command of the English language to help me with this for years. I don't know him personally, but I would say that Tim Wise is none of those things. He is White, and that means he will generally be afforded certain positive assumptions and opportunities other folks may not have, especially in the U.S. And I understand that when we use the term "white privilege" that is what we mean.
      But I'd like to find a term that takes something more into account… It is not a "privilege" (to me) to be unaware or inconsiderate of others who have different cultural, historical, physical, or socio-economic experiences than I do. And it is not a "privilege" (to me) to use any reason to treat another human being with indignity and disrespect. But often when we call somebody privileged, this is what we mean.
      From my perspective, Tim Wise is not privileged just because he is a White man. It was a privilege for his mom to send him to an HBCU for preschool, and it was a privilege that he got to work with PISAB and other organizations when he got his early training as an activist. And now, he is privileged by virtue of his vast knowledge, cultural awareness, communication skills, etc.
      So, please help me find a more accurate word or turn of phrase that distinguishes the likes of Tim Wise from others whose behavior shows that they are “privileged,” for lack of a better term. 🤔 🙂
