Interesting discussion. How times have changed! My husband survived growing up on a family dairy farm in WA. They brought the 1st five gals of milk each day and left it out on the counter until chores were done and the family had breakfast. They were not concerned with bacterial-laden milk. In college, we had goats and drank the raw milk with no problems and no special procedures. We washed containers by hand and refrigerated the milk. Some of my grown children have milk goats or cows. They have much stricter collection and storage procedures than I had. However, they won't even do milk shares because it can be such a hassle. They would rather occasionally share with friends, make cheese, or feed it to the pigs and dogs. Our food security will not improve unless we can all find some middle ground between fear and reasonable food handling standards. Hopefully, government regulations will stay out of the way.
