    When our American friends, Josh and Ashley from the Way Away, decided to come and visit us in Somerset, we knew we had to introduce them to some delicious British cider. Our favourite cider is Thatchers, which is a family-run cider producer located in Somerset in the West Country, England.
    We take a tour of the Thatchers orchards and learn about the process of making cider, enjoy lots of delicious ciders and go for a countryside walk along the Strawberry Line, starting in Sandford UK.

    Our time spent battling depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. In our vlogs, we talk openly and honestly about our travel experiences, the digital nomad life and depression. We hope our videos can help to inspire you to create a life that makes you happy!

    I first discovered cider in Scotland years ago and loved it, then went back to the US and there wasn't too many options. Thankfully now it's more popular and easier to get a hold of in the US!

    My Dad has an apple orchard and growing up we picked apples by hand, pressed cider and sold it at local markets. We probably made maybe 1000-2000 gallons a year. She is right, it's a very traditional seasonal thing here in the USA. but lately alcoholic cider drinks are becoming popular.
    My Dad would always make a barrel of hard cider for himself and his friends every year to enjoy throughout the winter.
    Great video guys.

    My Dad grew up on Orchards. Because of prohibition they made non-alcoholic Cider. Now in the USA if you want fermented cider, you ask for hard Cider. There are currently hundreds of hard Cider producers, mainly small craft ciders.

    I want to know where your friends are from, because cider is pretty common now. Some very popular brands include Angry Orchard and Woodchuck. It’s consumed all year round unless you’re talking about apple cider which is the juice drink they’re referencing.
    I’ve tried a bunch of flavored ciders, especially at EPCOT at DisneyWorld. My favorite include pumpkin and elderberry!

    There are many nice cideries in the US now that I think you'd be impressed with. Honestly, ❤ Josh & Ashley, but their world view of "cider" is limited. If you say where you're planning to visit, I'd be more than glad to recommend the best ones that aren't too far.

    20 years ago I worked in Yeovil for a short period. I asked the storekeeper our depot if he could get me some proper Scrumpy. Sure enough he turned up some days later with a half gallon plastic container of the stuff. Took it to my local Social Club at the weekend where myself and my drinking buddies had half a pint each. We were half cut by the time we finished the half pint!!! I knew what was coming because I had lived on the Isle of Wight and had their local Scrumpy. I do not consider flavoured Apple drinks (alcoholic or not) to be cider! Give me a glass of Scrumpy anyday!! The Apple wine you had reminds me of Merrydown Cider.

    Can cider be without any alcohol 0.0% ?

    • @afcgeo882
      @afcgeo882 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahmed AlShalchi Of course. Cider actually means an unfiltered pressed juice. The tradition in Europe was to ferment it to low alcohol levels in order to preserve it through the year. Non-alcoholic cider eventually became preferred to be filtered and called “juice” in most places.

    What the f**k was that Ashley! In the cider love in I'm not a massive cider drinker, it's more of a occasional treat. Used to drink it more in my younger years, had some heavy nights on the old rosey and cheddar valley

  • @TT-zd6nr
    @TT-zd6nr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    As for Rosé .. We visited a restaurant and as we had to wait to be seated, we ordered wine. My friend's wife suggested Rosé. I then explained at length since this was not Wimbledon and we considered ourselves versed in good wine that we should not be seen dead with Rosé.... until I noted two Rugby players (well they looked like that) and their wives in adjacent seats with a bottle of Rosé between them. Silence fell.

    • @afcgeo882
      @afcgeo882 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      T T Okay, first off, Rosé wine and Rosé cider are completely unrelated. Second, both can be of extremely high quality and vintage. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Rosé, at all. Rosé cider is usually made with dry varieties of apples that have pink flesh.

    • @TT-zd6nr
      @TT-zd6nr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@afcgeo882 Understand and accept the reproof on wine vs cider. I love good wine and spend a lot on it (living in the UK). Friends have tried me on two occasions with expensive rosé to no avail. It is all down to personal preference. Conversely I served up a superb Oz Semillon only to be told to pour it down the sink. So it goes both ways:)

    I always wondered why I didn't like Americans. This confirms my opinion. I am a regular customer of Thatcher's Cider - but I would hate to visit and be confronted with such awful ignorance and noisy braying from such ignorant sorts. Unfortunately ir is difficult to avoid US tourists wherever you travel.
