Nice to see newkie brown as we call it in the line up. It's the most common one on your line up and a safe bet if in doubt. It reminds me of getting in the local weatherspoons when I was 17. As I recall they served john smiths bitter on tap for about £1.30 a pint. Not being a fan of John smiths I went with the Newcastle brown ale which was cheaper and stronger at £1.20 a bottle. 8 to 10 bottles of this and the party has started. It also had the advantage of the bottle fitting in your inside coat pocket so you could drink one on the way home. How I miss the good old days of the early 2000s. Lol.
I'm so glad to have a more common one in our lineup. We had a great time trying the beers. Found some we really enjoyed. Also, thank you for sharing your story with us. Wish we could go back to a time when things were cheaper! We appreciate your kindness and time watching. Cheers 🤍 Jess x

I haven't watched yet, but you must try 'Doombar'. It might be a bit sweet for Chris, but well worth you trying. Newcastle Brown was a sensation when it was introduced, but not so popular now. Thanks for the review.
I recommend- Newcastle Brown Ale, Trooper by Iron Maiden, Bass, Doom and London Pride. Pretty much anything by Theakstons is good. There are so many to choose from you just have to try what you can. Pubs have beer festivals where they have many guest beers on tap. Also, look out for proper Beer Festivals around the country, some are pretty big. You will also find lots of Cider, which is nothing like American Cider, also try Perry (Pear cider).
Fab, thank you for all the lovely recommendations! We appreciate your time watching and supporting. Have a lovely weekend, friend. Cheers 🤍 Jess & Chris x
Liked your opinions on the flavours of the beers. As a young man I was ‘weaned’ on Boddington’s bitter, and along the way I’ve had spells of drinking bitters, Guinness, lagers, and while working in the NE, Newky (Newcastle) Brown! Nowadays, when drinking at home, my usually go to is a can of Budweiser or one of the stronger canned lagers - Carlsberg Export, Kronenberg, San Miguel etc. - probably for cheapness more than anything. Your tasting session has kind of wetted my appetite to give the more ‘exotic’ ales and porters a shot!😋
Glad you enjoyed it. We thought when getting here there would be more bitters than we are able to find. ESB is one that a lot of the micro breweries like to showcase in the US. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
Newcastle Brown Ale is apparently one of Clint Eastwood's favourite beers and he first tried it when he was once in Newcastle. Have you tried any British ciders? Of the carbonated drinks I prefer a lightly sparkling cider myself, especially a Henry Westons Vintage (8.2% Alcohol).
That is the first we have heard of Clint Eastwood's favorite beer. If it is, not a bad choice. We have tried a few ciders, you can for sure taste the quality from the British ciders. We have not tried Henry Weston Vintage, sounds like we should be on the look out though. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
Always found Samuel Smith's Ales to be of high quality, especially their bottled ales. Maybe worth looking to see if you can get any Fullers beers? London Pride is the most common but I would recommend ESB or the London Porter. Both stronger than the London Pride but not their strongest offerings?
I have tried the London Pride and did like it. If we can find the ESB I will pick it up right away or the porter for that matter. We have come to really like the Samuel Smith's Ales and I would agree that they are high quality no doubt. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris.
You could try some of the beers from the near to me Shepherd & Neame brewery , Britains oldest brewery founded in 1698 . Spitfire Ale and Bishops Finger are two of the most popular of their beers .

Someone's suggested 'Proper Job' ale by St Austell Brewery (Cornwall). Personally, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. However, from the same brewery, I would always recommend 'Tribute'. It has a slightly 'perfumed' aroma and flavour. It's my 'go to' ale!! Incidentally, St Austell do another ale called 'Big Job'.
We have seen the 'Proper Job' ale, but not the 'Tribute'. We will have to keep an eye out for that one too. Thanks for the suggestions. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
These are all independent micro breweries. Have you tried Greene king brewed in bury st Edmonds since 1799 there IPA is a favourite along with there st Edmonds and Christmas’s ale very dark and strong 7% also Charles wells Bedfordshire brewery. In England each county has its home brew but sadly a lot of them have gone now like a lot of our country pubs mainly due to cheap supermarket beer. Also tolly cobbold brewery Ipswich. Since 1723 recently taken over by Ridley and Cliff after 256 years.
We love the independent micro breweries. When ever we have a chance to see or support them we try too. You are right, there are a lot of places going to the cheap and convenient macro beers. It is happening at America and most of the time they try to keep the label of the micro brewery even after being bought out by the macro. Not sure if that is the same here in England. Either way, when we can support micro, we will. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers Chris and Jess.
Newky Broon (serve cold ) yes yes yes lol. As you can probably guess I'm from the North East ! Sadly No longer brewed in the North East. Hope you have enjoyed your time living over here !😊😊
You seemed to be enjoyed some of the beer. it seemed your husband is a beer guy. I haven't ever found any beer that I like from anywhere. but like you I'm not a drinker at all. Great info for those that enjoy beer..
Tried Oakham Ales Citra (golden beer) last year and loved it. Titanic Plum Porter and St. Peter's Plum Porter are rather nice. if you want to try something German, I'm rather fond of the very smooth Erdinger Dunkel. For a lovely dry cider, Henney's.
Dunkels are great. They are a type that do not get enough credit in America. We will look out for the Henney's cider too. We are split on dry and sweet ciders. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
@@DaydreamersBarn I don't like sweet drinks at all, dry wines and ciders, and no sugar in tea and coffee! Good luck trying to taste all our beer, cider and pear perry! :)
I always go for dark ales, much stronger flavour. Had a Hobgoblin ruby beer last night. Our UK top brand beers have become too smooth in the last few years, which I do not like. Aldi and Lidl still do a good range of British beers. Even Guinness, my favourite, is now smooth. This is very interesting to me.
It is hard to bet a good dark ale. It seems like a lot of the larger beer companies have gone to the smoother taste. It has its time and place, but there is still something to be said with a beer having its own unique flavor. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
After tasting what a REAL ale tastes like, we can understand the thought process. Cask ales have an incredible unique flavor that we were stoked to experience in England. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
That was interesting and most of those beers I haven't heard of. Newcastle Brown Ale is OK but not my first choice. Doombar and the vintage Fursty Ferret which is stronger are my favourites. I can't bear the thought that you probably emptied most of them down the sink.

Hello from Australia. Loved your video but am curious if you know what a sheep shagger is? My favourite Pommy beer I have every night is Hook Norton Twelve Days. P.S. when I worked in London in the 80s I ended up drinking Guiness after being poisoned by the undrinkable local stuff.

I am a coeliac now, so can't enjoy any of these anymore. I used to drink a lot of Newcastle Brown ale in the past, but doubt it tastes the same now that they don't make it in Newcastle any more.
I think that’s true of a lot of beers, local breweries being taken over by larger national concerns, the beer losing its unique flavour in the process, as in the case of the beer that had when I first started drinking 50 years ago, Boddingtons, alas not a patch on what it used to be.😕
'Most' of these I would put as average to good, although a couple of them I have only had from the cask so theywouldn't be quite the same. Used to quite like a cool Newcastle Brown on the odd occasion in years gone by, however since Heineken bought it and moved the brewery overseas it's now pretty awful!
What other ones would you suggest as above average or better than good. We are all about getting the great beer from here. With Newcastle, it happens when you get that big most times. Cost ends up being the driving factor most times. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
I haven't, but I will definitely give it a try. Thank you for the recommendation, friend. Hope you have a lovely day celebrating Mother's Day! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Jess doesn't like offending. However, we have thought of doing a cider try video, any suggestions? Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
@@DaydreamersBarn I think that would depend on the type of video you want to do. Normally I'd say avoid the ultra cheap supermarket own brands and Strongbow. But if you aren't as familiar with cider maybe you should start with strongbow. Then you need to decide if you want to stick with the UK or go further (it's not alwaus obvious Old Mout is from New Zealand). Try to get sweet and dry ciders to compare
Over the last 10 to 20 years brittish breweries, especially the independents have styled their brews more and more to pale and hoppy. Primarily to attact lager drinkers. Traditionally bitter would be mid amber to mid brown, less hoppy and more malt. Modern IPA styles with massive hop flavours are not my thing.
We can appreciate both the classic styles and the modern ones. While the classics with the malt forward flavors are ones that are always going to be longed for, the new hop flavors coming out of breweries is something to be appreciated too. Big take away is knowing what the brewer is trying to articulate to the consumer. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
That sounds like some of the adjunct stouts we have in America. We might have a different thought on it. Guess we if we see it, we will try and see. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
likewise with dark beers, it's a shame at the demise of mild, Ansells mild was my go to, well until they moved the brewing to Burton from Aston, hard to find many pubs selling mild now, though you can still get Bank's or Hansons' locally, always prefered Mann's brown ale to Newcy Brown.
Careful - you were in serious danger of actually getting a mouthful of beer. Drop the smelling and take a bloody good gulf - none of them will poison you.
Your pronunciation of sheepshaggers gold made me smile. Sheep shagger rather than sheep's hagger
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Definitely was not on purpose. We miss pronounced it. It was my (Jess) favorite beer, though!! We appreciate your time watching, friend! Cheers 🤍 Jess x

I haven't watched yet, but you must try 'Doombar'. It might be a bit sweet for Chris, but well worth you trying. Newcastle Brown was a sensation when it was introduced, but not so popular now. Thanks for the review.
Thank you for your time this morning, friend! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. Have a lovely day. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Good call, Chris. " Wasn't disappointed with any of them" Spoken like a true 'hop-head'
Fantastic! We're so happy you enjoyed this fun video. We truly love sharing with you all! 🤍 Jess x
@@DaydreamersBarnit’s a power house for sure, very potent 🤤
Hope you both finished those beers plus what was left in the bottle!
💯 never waste a beer! Haha.... All beers were finished after the making of this video. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
You could also have tried Fullers ESB, (extra special bitter) or Fullers vintage ale. Yes! Taddys is a real great beer. 🍺😀
Thanks for the tips! We really appreciate your recommendation. We hope you have a lovely day. Cheers 🤍 Jess & Chris x
You could try some of the beers from the near to me Shepherd & Neame brewery , Britains oldest brewery founded in 1698 . Spitfire Ale and Bishops Finger are two of the most popular of their beers .
Love the recommendation, friend! Thank you. I will add those to our list for our next video. We appreciate your time watching and recommendations. Have a lovely day! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
I brew my own Ales & Cider now but before then my favourite beers were Tanglefoot & Cranborne Poacher from Badger Breweries.
Chris definitely loves to brew his own beer and makes homemade wine. I get to enjoy homemade brews, always a win for us both. Thanks for the recommendations! Thank you for watching and supporting us. We hope you have a lovely day. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Great review, you can see Chris loves his beer 🥴 personally I'm a cider man, but back in the day i did used to down a lot of Newcastle brown ale. You should try Firebird, a heritage Sussex ale 🤘👍
Can't deny that! We have started to try more of the cider. Maybe we can do a cider try too....any recommendations? Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers Chris and Jess.
@@DaydreamersBarn Oh absolutely, Rattler, Cornish cider, it'll blow your socks off 😂😂

Chris Jess who finished off the bottles when you finished filming? lol Good viewing thanks for sharing!

Herefordshire has a huge range of loccal ciders (aside from mass produced)
Sounds like a great one to check out. We will have to find that. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
I enjoyed that with you. You should try our ciders as ours are quite different to American ciders.
💯 I agree with you, friend. We're looking to try many Ciders here. We appreciate your time! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
What I would like to see is you trying Diamond White, mixed with Special Brew and a dash of Blackcurrant followed by an attempt to complete a jigsaw.

I prefer Mann's brown ale to Newcastle Brown, if you like dark beer, try finding a good Mild,
It has been harder to find a good Mild than we expected. Any recommendations? Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
I've heard good things about Harvey's Dark Mild, but not had the pleasure of trying it myself, otter mild is another I've yet to have a sample of that's been recommended to me. Usually I drink Banks' or Hansons' as they are both available on draught locally @@DaydreamersBarn
Try your local Tesco's. That's where I get mine. That said, not all areas stock it. Failing that, go visit Cornwall!!@@DaydreamersBarn
This might be a spendy one but I would be interested in a taste test of different scotch varieties! Great video guys we always enjoy the taste tests.
This is one of my favorite suggestions! I'm so game! 🤍 Jess x
Newky Broon (serve cold ) yes yes yes lol. As you can probably guess I'm from the North East ! Sadly No longer brewed in the North East.
Hope you have enjoyed your time living over here !😊😊
It is sad to see the brewing moved from it's original place. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
You seemed to be enjoyed some of the beer. it seemed your husband is a beer guy. I haven't ever found any beer that I like from anywhere. but like you I'm not a drinker at all. Great info for those that enjoy beer..
I did seem to find a couple I really enjoyed. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video, friend. Cheers 🤍 Jess
Before I even start this video, Newcastle Brown better be your favourite. Definitely the most refreshing to me.
Update. The lady has zero taste...
Sorry to disappoint. 👍
For me, British ale just doesn’t go in a bottle. It has to be drunk on draught in a good pub. In a bottle it just ends up a bit dull and dead
Oh, most defensive didn't want a Beer.. We don't waste in this house, not perfectly good beers. Thank you for the recommendations. Thank you for watching. Cheers 🤍 Jess x
Now for a taste test of English wine with Welsh cheese and Scottish oatcakes.
💯 agree with you, my friend! Another one of my favorite recommendations! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
I would say if you like Newcastle Brown then you should seek out a bottle of Manns Brown ale for comparison purposes at least. Same applies to Sam Smith’s own Brown ale.
Fab, thank you for your suggestion. We appreciate your time watching and leaving a recommendation. Cheers 🤍 Jess & Chris x
Another local name for Newcastle Brown Ale is "Madhouse Broth"

Hello from Australia. Loved your video but am curious if you know what a sheep shagger is? My favourite Pommy beer I have every night is Hook Norton Twelve Days. P.S. when I worked in London in the 80s I ended up drinking Guiness after being poisoned by the undrinkable local stuff.

I am a coeliac now, so can't enjoy any of these anymore. I used to drink a lot of Newcastle Brown ale in the past, but doubt it tastes the same now that they don't make it in Newcastle any more.
Well, your health is more important than a couple of beers. We appreciate your time watching and commenting. Cheers 🤍 Jess & Chris x
I think that’s true of a lot of beers, local breweries being taken over by larger national concerns, the beer losing its unique flavour in the process, as in the case of the beer that had when I first started drinking 50 years ago, Boddingtons, alas not a patch on what it used to be.😕
You should try some Belgian beers, I think the best.
Thank you, friend, for the recommendation! We appreciate your time. Hope you have a good evening. Cheers 🤍 Jess & Chris x
Jess, have you tried Cider from Somerset?
I haven't, but I will definitely give it a try. Thank you for the recommendation, friend. Hope you have a lovely day celebrating Mother's Day! Cheers 🤍 Jess x
@@DaydreamersBarn Be very careful of scrumpy cider Jess!..
No need to apologise for personal preference. You should try ciders, huge range here
Jess doesn't like offending.
Did you deliberately mispronounce Sheepshaggers Gold wrong?
🤣 I wonder if TH-cam would get upset if they pronounced it correctly, or if they realize what it means.
I did not deliberately mispronounce, however, that is a fair point, TH-cam might have flagged it. Cheers, Chris and Jess.
I doubt You Tube would even understand the joke. There are quite a lot of beers with rude or weird names, I guess it sells more beer.
