    LOVE the Frog Smart Chlor in my Artesian Spa but it's ridiculously over priced and environmentally wasteful to throw out all that plastic every two weeks. My spa is 400 gallons and I was tearing through a cartridge every 2 weeks. Pried open the top of an empty, filled it with 1" tabs and saved myself close to $300/yr and a landfill of a bunch of discarded plastic.

      I would assure that your water chemistry is balanced, the smartchlor cartridge should be lasting more than 2 weeks. If the water becomes acidic than it will definitely run through the chlorine much faster than it should. Hope this helps.

      1" chlorine tabs I'm assuming? I hope it wasn't difficult to pry open as I will do the same 😆

    Just curious as to why you wouldn't test strip the water before adding anything????? That way you have a base line. I'm a newbie lol! 😆

    Could you float this in the filter bay of a Sundance 780 or 880 I wonder? I just don't like having things float around the tub.

    My test strips show the pH color as pink, but not really one of the colors on the strip. Does that mean that ph is too high or too low?

    Can I switch to this system without draining and refilling my tub ??

    • @mr_j0st235

      It depends on what sanitizer is currently in the water but I would definitely recommend changing water. You will most likely get a foam reaction if you mix different sanitizers.

      Yes, it is recommended to changed your water after you run through the last replacement cartridge. That should put you at around 4 months. Because we are dealing with only a couple hundred gallons, you can only put in so many chemicals until the “Total Dissolved Solids” reach a PPM (parts per million) too high, no longer allowing the chemicals to break down (or dissolve) and affectively keep the water clean and alkaline.
      Think of it in a smaller scale..
      Taking a cup of coffee and mixing sugar into it. The sugar will dissolve into the coffee. If you continue to add teaspoon after teaspoon eventually the sugar will no longer dissolve because the TDS (Total Dissolvent Solids) level of the coffee is too high.
      Does that help?

    Would you recommend starting at a 4 for a swim spa that is 15’ long by 5’deep? Or two frog ease systems?

    • @mr_j0st235
      @mr_j0st235 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The @ease system is designed for hot tubs up to 500 gallons however Frog co does make another product called “Flipping Frog” that is designed for small pools that are 1,500-5,000 gallons which is what I would recommend for you. Same concept as the @ease product just a larger scale. Hope this helps.

    Anything “special” about the Frog test strips or, will ANY test strips work for testing the water with this system?
    Also, can you simply use baking soda to adjust TA? I’ve heard 1 tblsp/100 gals of baking soda works the same. Thx!

    • @mr_j0st235
      @mr_j0st235 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use any test strip to test for pH, ALK, and Calcium however to my knowledge I believe only the frog test strips will test for the “smartchlor” level which is your chlorine.
      I personally have never used baking soda to adjust chemistry only because the proper chemicals are more readily available for me to get being I work for a store however I have heard of people using it.
      Hope this helps.

    As you didn't mention anything about replacing the minerals, and the website claims that they last up to 4 months, does that mean that after every 4 months you buy an entire new system? Or is there a replacement for the mineral cartridge?

    • @mr_j0st235
      @mr_j0st235 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for pointing that out. I apologize I did not specify on that. Yes after the last Grey cartridge has depleted (approx 4 months) then you will replace everything again. Purchasing both boxes at that point will give you a new blue side, 4 smart Chlor cartridges, a new bottle of test strips, and another packet of “jump start”. At that time I recommend changing the water in the spa. Hope this helps!

    How often should we test the water?

    • @mr_j0st235
      @mr_j0st235 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is recommended to test and balance your water once per week. At the minimum, every other week.

    When the ph is low, do I just add ph to the water or so I have to put in to a gallon of water first and then mix before adding to the water

    • @ajspa7058

      Thank you for watching the video. You can just add the PH up directly into the spa, no need to mix before hand. Just make sure that you turn on all pumps and jets are open to let it mix throughout the spa.

    Very good instructions, thank you. My original cartridge has made it to 5 weeks. I add a scoop of renew per person/use, and have been testing water a couple times per week. Adjusted pH and alkalinity a few times. Cl has been light green a couple times, added renew and adjusted frog up from 2 to 3 for a couple days. Any thoughts appreciated.

    • @mr_j0st235
      @mr_j0st235 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like everything is in line. If the chlorine is consistently low with good pH and ALK levels then you may just have to increase the chlorine level on the smartchlor cartridge. Other wise I think you are all set

      You can add it when it is warm. Let it mix around for a while and then test the water a few hours later and see if anything needs to be adjusted.
