It is possible to drive safely on inches of ice, we do it all the time here, people just need to know how, and people that don’t shouldn’t go out and endanger others.

Around 6 pm last night I tried to take somebody to the kc airport and was driving 25-30 mph on the highway. There were cars everywhere that didn’t drive as cautiously. Even driving that slow though I still felt some slipping. We got about 5 miles before the people decided they just wanted to go back home. I dropped them off, took one more trip from the downtown airport. The woman I picked up told me that she was prepared to just sleep at the terminal. At that point the water was just instantly freezing on my windshield and I was out of washer fluid. I just drove home.

Please tell the drivers in your state that when they're driving in the ice fog to use their headlights. So many people today driving with no headlights, I'm a tractor/trailer driver and when i can't see them coming it's extremely dangerous with the fog and ice because of the inability to stop.

Truckers should stay safe, park and keep others safe too. No one should risk their life to get to work to sell food, that everyone had plenty of time to buy before the storm hit. I pray for all first responders & tow truck drivers who have no choice and have to be out in this… Grateful for every one of them.

Problem is they weren’t salting jack… I’m in kc and the Kansas side was slightly better than the Missouri side but that isn’t saying much. Have the DOTs been underfunded so much that we can’t even salt the second storm of the season? The first storm where it was actually needed…?
As someone who is in the north in Pennsylvania if you go out have 8hr hand warmers in your vehicles for everyone in your vehicles! Saved me a few times while waiting for roads to start moving again.

Nah, 1977), South K.C. ... been there, done that many times with the single rear-wheel drive cars of the day (which I WISH I kept but I digress). Learned how to drive. Enough up here in Montana but even 40 years later pushing through bumper-deep snow, I cheer myself up with "At least it's not a Midwest Ice storm!" Godspeed and stay (home) safe.
I went from Topeka down to Dallas leaving my super at around 3 pm. It was already icy. But I got down before too many wrecks or closures. Thank God, But yall be safe out there. Oh and u don’t know why but Kansas really didn’t have any salt layen down. That’s problems waiting to happen
Only been in KS a few times. I’m not sure how their DOT handles this. They were warned days in advance. Don’t they pre treat the roads with calcium or magnesium chloride? Here in the Mid Atlantic, they are out pre treating 18 hours before the storm hits, which keeps the ice at bay until they all get out and spread chemical.
Hi! This is a very uninformed viewpoint. Yes, KDOT treats roads with Brine, but when the forecast calls for rain, immediately followed by freezing temperatures, immediately followed by snow, Brine would be pointless since the rain would wash it away. Hope this helps

I live in Wichita Kansas and I am so scared and worried about this extreme winter weather!It is so cold in my house it's 73 F and it's still feels cold. Thank God I have the heater going one. It's nine inches snow in my yard. It's a lot of ice and freezing snow on our Red Van. Let's hope we will get it all safe!!I need to let water dripping at night for 4 days so Ive been told.
