Not just Nintendo but retro gaming in general,they hike the prices up to silly amounts,even when you go to a car boot sale now they quote ebay prices which are well over the top
Re-sellers aren't bad at all, in fact they're very smart. They know that some absolute twat collector will pay stupid amounts of money for them. It's the buyer that pushed prices up not the seller.

Yeah. It really pissed me off when I found out I couldn't scan the figurines through the box. Would have been neat to be able to keep them boxed while still being able to use them. I know I'm in the minority and it seems silly but I am a collector and this kind of stuff would have been a nice option to have.
I was planning on doing this too. I didn't have a chance to test it out, just found out now from this video. It really sucks. When I was thinking about getting into Skylanders I was borrowing a friends portal, bought a few characters, left them sealed and it worked. Well, I didn't end up getting into it anyway, but it would be nice if it worked for this. Especially with some characters being worth as much as they are.
I'm not a collector but I've got no desire to take the figure out of the box and risk it getting damaged from sitting out. I managed to open mine in a way that if I'm careful I can just slip it in and out but I don't know how long that'll last.

I feel your pain man, once you buy one you just want to keep buying more and more. And I think the biggest culprit with amiibos becoming rare and the resellers/scalpers. I keep reading all these posts around the web where some people are walking into stores and buying ALL of the damn amiibos!

I haven't looked up how to do it, but I imagine it involves scanning them through the back of the box, instead of the bottom. So you lay the box flat with the bottom of the Amiibo above the NFC scan point. Give that a shot.
I love this story - your enthusiasm is so infectious. I pre-ordered the Shulk amiibo simply because I'm a huge Xenoblade fan. Hopefully I can curb the addiction there and not end up in Amiibo Anonymous.

On launch day I saw them all stocked at my Target. I just stood there in front thinking "Oh no, I must resist" and I'm not buying even one because that would open the floodgate. Even though Kirby looks good enough to eat. He looks like a little pink cupcake that must be so sweet.
I only wanted three of them. Not based on rarity, based on characters I like... go figure one of the ones I want is now harder to get: Marth. I have Samus and I still need Link as well. Great vid man, the figures are pretty cool, I must admit.

When they announced these things I honestly didn't think they would sell, but I had failed to account for the nintendo collectors who collect nintendo going crazy when nintendo released nintendo collectibles.
It's really amazing how fast these sell out. I didn't pre-order any of the first or second lines and it was really something. I managed to grab every amiibo from the first line except for the Wii Fit Trainer, which I had to buy from someone else for 10 bucks higher. The second wave I really gave into the temptation and bought half of it in one go. I was planning on letting my folks get me the other half for Christmas but eventually it became just one. So about a week ago I phoned up a local store of mine and asked if they had Little Mac because I noticed he was getting more and more rare. They had him and I asked if they could put it behind the counter for me. I had some things to do beforehand so I arrived about two hours later. I figured since, aside from Little Mac, Pitt was the only one left for me to collect that I'd grab him as well. At that exact moment, the store manager asked one of his employees if there are more Little Mac's in the back. The employee couldn't find any but eventually found one in the back. Usually that means that it's reserved for someone but it didn't have a note with it. So they wanted to put it on the shelves. I overheard this and quickly reacted to it and they apologized and gave it to me. So that was literally the last Little Mac they had and they received a whole batch of 'm before I even entered the store. It's unbelievable.
I'm pretty confident Nintendo will restock every one of these, since pretty much all of them are selling really well (except Luigi lol). Also, you can still take the figures out of the box if you open the bottom REALLY carefully and pull them through the bottom of the box.
I guess you could call me a bad collected, but I hate keeping figures in boxes. I want them to be displayed in an orderly fashion, without having to clear a whole shelf for 4 or 5 figures on each row.
Totally agree. I bought mine to use them in the games not just for display, and also I'm not planning on ever selling them so why would I care if they lose value, right?
so far u seem to have the least bendy sword Marth! Personally, I found it funny that the Nintendo World Store had more Disney Infinity figs in stock, than amiibo.... and they even set up this giant Mario statue for the display and everything

I think Palutena(if she comes out) will be the most rare Amiibo. With the amount of detail she has, I can honestly see Nintendo under-producing her to cut down costs.
These figures are insanely popular right now. I don't quite think Nintendo anticipated the popularity of these (sort of like with the Gamecube Adapter for the Wii U). As much as I'd like to see Nintendo re-release some of the obscure characters, they certainly haven't done it with their games in the past. One release, and they're gone.
Yeah the whole box idea sucks with the metal but the way I get around that is take a pen knife and cut the plastic on the sides and bottom so you can open it up so it allows you to take the amiibo out and keep a really clean box, there are also videos on how to do it

Nintendo might make variants where the amiibo uses the alternate costume colors, plus a different move as others have pointed out. Personally I'd just rather keep them. They look neat.

I have 1 on preorder, which is Luigi which comes out here Friday. I don't really have the cash right now to get too into it, but Luigi is one of my most fave characters so im getting him now, and possibly Toon link when he hits stores in the uk.
My littlest has hinted a couple of times that she would like some of the Amiibo figures, have some stock left in our Kmart stores. I quite the look of the Starfox figure, but she would probably more want Mario :)
I don't personally think Nintendo will not restock these rare ones to make them stay rare. So in future people will feel like they need to buy these amiibos day one just incase they become rare i.e keeping people hooked.
Amiibo is fun and it's nice to have a figure for a game I enjoy that interacts with the game. I agree though Johnny, this is getting out of hand. I only want a few figures each wave which I enjoy and it's becoming this crazy easter egg hunt. I also agree about the restocking of "rare" figures. Though I don't look for that yo happen until after the holidays.
I got incredibly lucky yesterday that I found a Little Mac (technically two, but I only picked up one). I had no idea that they existed yet, but when I saw it, it was an instant pick-up. lol
I bought most of the first wave for my kids (and me too) for Xmas. I saw Villager at Target and couldn't buy him because kids were with me. I couldn't pre-order Sonic, King DDD or anyone else that has been recently released due to this bs. Really sucks for the kids since we all keep up with Nintendo news and when new amiibo will be released. Not that we have a choice since wii-u alerts us. So I'm sure it's really frustrating for a lot of kids out there. It's impossible to receive new characters it seems. One major reason I'm reluctant to buy okne is because a bunch of people are complaining about counterfeit amiibo. Great video glad I found your channel! :)

When I pre-ordered Smash Bros for the Wii U I also pre-ordered the Marth Amiibo, when I went to go pick it up the manager of the store held up the Amiibo and yelled across the store, "This is the last one, and it is pre-ordered". He then handed me my game and the Amiibo and I started to leave, but when I was walking out of the store other Smash Bros fans were looking at me and looked as if they wanted to rip me apart.
7:37 Nintendo is stopping people from playing with the Amiibo, then returning and exchanging them for what they didn't play with yet or reselling them unopened with the them being all leveled up (like on eBay). That what some people are doing with Activision's Skylanders.
I'm glad I was able to resist. I only bought Pikachu and Marth. In an interview with Bill Trinen, he said Nintendo may release other Amiibo series. He said this group of Amiibos we're getting are "Smash series". And there's a chance Nintendo may release another new series. Perhaps the Zelda U series, where it would be exclusively Zelda characters. Or a Mario Kart series where Amiibos are in karts. Who knows really.
By the way there's a lot of scalpers out there who go on launch night and buy a lot of these figures before they hit shelves to resell at double price. It happens with skylanders and Disney infinity too.
Noticed your Villager and Wii Fit Trainer are different from the others you had. Some of the text on the card was different. Are those two the japan version? I've even seen other language versions too.
I really regret not buying the Marth Amiibo when it was available on Toys R Us. I really did not expected that it would become THAT rare. I hope Nintendo re-releases them.
I love the amiibos but I just don't have the money to buy every single one of them... but I still told myself I was only going to buy two and I've already bought five. I'm eyeing a few others and I can just see myself thinking, "Well, I might as well complete the set." They really are like crack. If they weren't so well made it would be a different story but they are gorgeous. I'm only even leveling one in Smash, the rest are just to look at.
I never thought they would be so hard to find, but I am addicted to collecting these things. I do hate how certain ones are exclusive to stores and how quantities are so low. Its like you need to have the money day 1 of announcement to get any of theses. I will only pick up what I can find, but some are discontinued like Villager, Marth, and a few others. I think there will be resold when their respected game comes out.
I plan to buy a few of these, I think they are pretty cool. I certainly won't have a full set though. 4-5 of my favorites I think and I will be removing them from the packaging and using them. They do look kind of cool in the box but I don't have room for that. Their in game unlocks are really weak at this point. I am just interested because they look nice.

There is a difference in rarity by region too. The rare ones are nowhere to be found in The Netherlands, but in Oberhuasen, Germany, a 1,5 hour drive from my home town, the local Gamestop had 2 marths and two villagers. Kinda stupid I did'nt pick the up, and bought Kirby and Link instead... because I actually want those and use them :)
I had a similar experience, and ended up preordering all of waves 1 and 2 from Best Buy. They ended up cancelling my preorder on Little Mac. Anyway I ended up going into the store to pickup another item and the employee working the counter recognized me and said that they had the figure I ordered in now. Well it wasn't Little Mac, but it was Pit, who is fairly rare as well, so I bought him. Ended up trading him on my local online classifieds with someone who had Little Mac. I've since gone on to pre-order most of wave 3 (except Rosalina and Lucario). They are fairly fun to play with, and I bought them for Smash and future games, plus they are just good looking figures. I need help though as I have all of the Infinity characters and an okay assortment of Skylanders. Hobbies man...
Dude over where I live in New Zealand and their are no exclusive all of them you can get at jb hi-fi and eb games like the other day I walked into jb hi- fi and I just saw a row of amiibos some of them rosilina meta knight and little mac just standing there on the shelf and it does not look like they are going to be selling out because they have a box at the bottom under the shelfs and they were all there and also your channel is awesome
As a dude that works at Toys R Us, apparently Marth has been discontinued. That doesn't really mean much though. My co-workers have been wrong about a million times in the past.
Pre ordered Sonic and Megaman just incase they are rare. Rare or not they should be pretty hard to find when they first hit stores considering everyones going to want the 3rd party character amiibos.
Johnny forget about keeping them in boxes because glue used on this kind of boxing holds only around 1,5-2 years. Also don't jump on the hype train, if a figurine is beyond your reach right now, it surely will be restocked in time frame of 6 months. As much as I'd like to see Nintendo re-release some of the obscure characters, they certainly haven't done it with their games in the past. One release, and they're gone.
Yeah the whole box idea sucks with the metal but the way I get around that is take a pen knife and cut the plastic on the sides and bottom so you can open it up so it allows you to take the amiibo out and keep a really clean box, there are also videos on how to do it
Scenario A - I really love this video and plan to buy the whole series. Thanks for showing us! (Nintendo allows the video and puppies to live). Scenario B - I'm really worried about the artificial scarcity of these figures. I won't pay the devil. I'm not getting these. (Nintendo gives HappyConsoleGamer a copyright strike and kills puppies. And a few goats for the hell of it)
When I was at Target on launch day, I remember thinking of buying a villager. I saw it, and thought it looked pretty cool, but I bought the Link and Kirby instead. There was the marth and wii fit trainer there too. Worst mistake ever.
I only want the Sonic, Ike, and Mega Man ones, but this video was making me want Marth a bit because of Fire Emblem, lol.
Just to give you a heads up Johnny, Lucario is a toys R Us exclusive so you may wanna keep that in mind. And if Rob Man is collecting too, Megaman is released in February
Nintendo might make variants where the amiibo uses the alternate costume colors, plus a different move as others have pointed out.
Personally I'd just rather keep them. They look neat.

I do love the Amiibo figures, they seem to be much better quality then the Skylanders/Disney infinity figures.
I have 1 on preorder, which is Luigi which comes out here Friday. I don't really have the cash right now to get too into it, but Luigi is one of my most fave characters so im getting him now, and possibly Toon link when he hits stores in the uk.
My littlest has hinted a couple of times that she would like some of the Amiibo figures, have some stock left in our Kmart stores.
I quite the look of the Starfox figure, but she would probably more want Mario :)
I don't personally think Nintendo will not restock these rare ones to make them stay rare. So in future people will feel like they need to buy these amiibos day one just incase they become rare i.e keeping people hooked.
Amiibo is fun and it's nice to have a figure for a game I enjoy that interacts with the game. I agree though Johnny, this is getting out of hand. I only want a few figures each wave which I enjoy and it's becoming this crazy easter egg hunt. I also agree about the restocking of "rare" figures. Though I don't look for that yo happen until after the holidays.
I got incredibly lucky yesterday that I found a Little Mac (technically two, but I only picked up one). I had no idea that they existed yet, but when I saw it, it was an instant pick-up. lol
I bought most of the first wave for my kids (and me too) for Xmas. I saw Villager at Target and couldn't buy him because kids were with me. I couldn't pre-order Sonic, King DDD or anyone else that has been recently released due to this bs. Really sucks for the kids since we all keep up with Nintendo news and when new amiibo will be released. Not that we have a choice since wii-u alerts us. So I'm sure it's really frustrating for a lot of kids out there.
It's impossible to receive new characters it seems. One major reason I'm reluctant to buy okne is because a bunch of people are complaining about counterfeit amiibo. Great video glad I found your channel! :)
***** I was at Target and my kids were there with me. The first wave was released right before Christmas and we planned on buying the entire first wave for them for Xmas.
When I pre-ordered Smash Bros for the Wii U I also pre-ordered the Marth Amiibo, when I went to go pick it up the manager of the store held up the Amiibo and yelled across the store, "This is the last one, and it is pre-ordered". He then handed me my game and the Amiibo and I started to leave, but when I was walking out of the store other Smash Bros fans were looking at me and looked as if they wanted to rip me apart.
7:37 Nintendo is stopping people from playing with the Amiibo, then returning and exchanging them for what they didn't play with yet or reselling them unopened with the them being all leveled up (like on eBay). That what some people are doing with Activision's Skylanders.
I'm glad I was able to resist. I only bought Pikachu and Marth. In an interview with Bill Trinen, he said Nintendo may release other Amiibo series. He said this group of Amiibos we're getting are "Smash series". And there's a chance Nintendo may release another new series. Perhaps the Zelda U series, where it would be exclusively Zelda characters. Or a Mario Kart series where Amiibos are in karts. Who knows really.
By the way there's a lot of scalpers out there who go on launch night and buy a lot of these figures before they hit shelves to resell at double price. It happens with skylanders and Disney infinity too.
The big difference between this and the Skylanders is that the Amiibo work not only for Smash, but for a list of other games that are NOT Smash.

Noticed your Villager and Wii Fit Trainer are different from the others you had. Some of the text on the card was different. Are those two the japan version? I've even seen other language versions too.
I really regret not buying the Marth Amiibo when it was available on Toys R Us.

I love the amiibos but I just don't have the money to buy every single one of them... but I still told myself I was only going to buy two and I've already bought five. I'm eyeing a few others and I can just see myself thinking, "Well, I might as well complete the set." They really are like crack. If they weren't so well made it would be a different story but they are gorgeous. I'm only even leveling one in Smash, the rest are just to look at.
I never thought they would be so hard to find, but I am addicted to collecting these things. I do hate how certain ones are exclusive to stores and how quantities are so low. Its like you need to have the money day 1 of announcement to get any of theses. I will only pick up what I can find, but some are discontinued like Villager, Marth, and a few others. I think there will be resold when their respected game comes out.
I plan to buy a few of these, I think they are pretty cool. I certainly won't have a full set though. 4-5 of my favorites I think and I will be removing them from the packaging and using them. They do look kind of cool in the box but I don't have room for that. Their in game unlocks are really weak at this point. I am just interested because they look nice.
So far I'm only been buying figures of characters I like. I've gotten Wii Fit trainer, Samus, villager, Mario, Donkey Kong, and Pikachu. I wanted Marth but he was sold out. The next figures I plan on getting are Little Mac and Captain Falcon.

I have three at the moment, Mario, Samus and Marth(unopened). I'm tempted to try to get all of them but I'm holding off at the moment. They look awesome, I really like them and the idea, just hoping to see more games using them in cool ways.
There is a difference in rarity by region too. The rare ones are nowhere to be found in The Netherlands, but in Oberhuasen, Germany, a 1,5 hour drive from my home town, the local Gamestop had 2 marths and two villagers. Kinda stupid I did'nt pick the up, and bought Kirby and Link instead... because I actually want those and use them :)

I had a similar experience, and ended up preordering all of waves 1 and 2 from Best Buy. They ended up cancelling my preorder on Little Mac. Anyway I ended up going into the store to pickup another item and the employee working the counter recognized me and said that they had the figure I ordered in now. Well it wasn't Little Mac, but it was Pit, who is fairly rare as well, so I bought him. Ended up trading him on my local online classifieds with someone who had Little Mac. I've since gone on to pre-order most of wave 3 (except Rosalina and Lucario). They are fairly fun to play with, and I bought them for Smash and future games, plus they are just good looking figures. I need help though as I have all of the Infinity characters and an okay assortment of Skylanders. Hobbies man...
Dude over where I live in New Zealand and their are no exclusive all of them you can get at jb hi-fi and eb games like the other day I walked into jb hi- fi and I just saw a row of amiibos some of them rosilina meta knight and little mac just standing there on the shelf and it does not look like they are going to be selling out because they have a box at the bottom under the shelfs and they were all there and also your channel is awesome

Pre ordered Sonic and Megaman just incase they are rare. Rare or not they should be pretty hard to find when they first hit stores considering everyones going to want the 3rd party character amiibos.
Johnny forget about keeping them in boxes because glue used on this kind of boxing holds only around 1,5-2 years. Also don't jump on the hype train, if a figurine is beyond your reach right now, it surely will be restocked in time frame of 6 months. What happens here is a typical case of demand going over supply. Cheers, Skylanders collector.
in australia we have all the shop exlusives that you guys have in one shop and we are getting all of the figures back in stores in a couple months
Yeah the Sonic Amiibo is becoming more rare & I can't find him anywhere which is really starting to piss me off, because I was (& still am) a big fan of Sonic the Hedgehog.
