LC has helped my health, I keep my carbs below 100G usually around 60 to 70 grams, sometimes less. Gluten is the enemy as also are foods that you can be intolerant too, like nuts, certain grains, legumes, tomatoes, why elimination diets come into play.

I am experimenting with this now - lowering my overall carb intake and seeing how I feel. I was tempted to go full-bore ketovore, but this video has talked some sense into me. I may not need to go that extreme. I do still love eating vegetables, so I'm not sure how I'd feel about leaving those completely out.👍 My goal is to lose some of the fat I've put on over the past 2-3 years. Eliminating processed foods is always good!

Hi Carly, thanks for sharing your recent changes! I've mentioned in some of my other videos that I like to think of nutrition as a spectrum, where we can dial up and down the "intensity" depending on what we need as an individual. Make some initial changes that feel good to you and see how that goes first! Then if you need to change things further, you can always do that. I hope everything goes well for you! Thanks again and wishing you the best :)

Thank you, Dr. Bodle! Great info! I tried carnivore for 2 years, my bloodwork showed high LDL, my TSH increased to 7, my T3, T4 decreased( (low out of range). I am 52, Hashimoto’s patient on thyroid meds for over 20 years. I weight train, cardio (LMHR) I added in some carbs 1-2x per day like sweet potatoes, oat bran, oatmeal or rice. I take in between 30-80g of carbs per day and my bloodwork showed significant improvement in reducing my LDL and thyroid levels improved back in normal range.

Hi Karen, thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it! It sounds like you're doing an amazing job with things. Sometimes we have to tinker a bit to find that right combination for what our body needs. I've found with patients over the years that people who tend to be more active usually do a bit better with some more carbs. It isn't always that way, but it's a decent general rule. If the change has helped you to feel better and improve your labs, then I think that's all the evidence you need! :) Great stuff!

The diet sweeteners that effect blood sugar the most is ones bast off alcohol they all end in "ol" like erythritol. If you have sucrose it usually is non reactive but everyone is different so check blood sugar. I have borderline diabetes and low thyroid a low carb diet took my high blood pressure down, I got my thyroid symptoms down and cholesterol down.

Went carnivore and my Tsh went to 10.0
Took on complex carbs and then went back to normal

Hi Robert, thanks for sharing this perspective! Low carb is not for everyone and that's why I try to teach people about our macronutrients as "dials" that we can turn up or down as needed. If we push things too far in a direction that our body doesn't like, then it can definitely apply stress and lead to worsening lab values. Thanks again for this heads up and I hope other people will adjust their approach if things aren't feeling right!

Thanks. Really helped.. very sane explanation. I'm in my 70s. I am having trouble with balance (walking) Pain of the extreme kind and have always have trouble with weight. hypothyroidism, lactose intolerance, IBS... I just want to stay mobile and live a decent realistic old age. I like your view of see what works. I want to lose 50 lbs on keto but I am not sure my older body is going to cooperate like it did in my 20s. ( I liked the Atkins diet back in the 1970s but weight control has always been a real fight for me.)

Hi Kathleen, thanks so much for the feedback! I do my best to stay grounded with our strategies because there can be so many recommendations and opinions out there. If keto works for you, that's great! But don't be afraid to get started, then adjust your approach if necessary. Our body is a bit different than when we're in our 20's, so sometimes we need to take that into account :) I still think improvement is possible though, we just have to do a good job of being a detective and monitoring what helps us feel the best! Thanks again Kathleen and good luck with your health goals!

I started a low-carb (almost zero carb) diet in 2017 and was recently diagnosed (2024) with Hashimoto's. Now I'm exploring adding some healthy carbs back in. I also do intermittent fasting and try to vary my fasting days and hours, following Dr. Mindy Pelz' recommendations. Haven't started levothyroxine yet; for now I'd rather see if I can make dietary changes that will improve the situation.

Hi Susan, that sounds great! Whenever we try something new we want to assess our response and then build on those changes in whatever way we feel is best. Track how things go once you add the carbs back in and you can adjust them however you need. Great job listening to your body and seeing what helps you the most! Thanks as well for watching and commenting! :)

Thanks so much Natasha! Honestly, I feel like this is how all healthcare should be. Focused on the individual and making adjustments based on how they're responding. There are certain health principles that we need to be aware of, but it doesn't mean we can't be flexible 😊 Thanks again!

Dr Mindy pelz recently released a book on this, fast like a girl. Low carb is fine for post menopausal women and from day one of period up to ovulation. Men can fast/keto anytime

How about increasing carbs in keto diet?
I have hypothyroid. In general, I feel good, levels of energy are good, my FT4 levels are in normal range, but my TSH is High (18).
For almost a year I eat 5% carbs (from 2000 calories), but my FT4 and TSH are still the same.
    What do you recomend?

Most carbs today are inflammatory hence seed oils
