  • CIOL Winter ML Bootcamp: Session 5 | Using Pre-Trained Models for Images | Computer Vision
The CIOL Winter ML Bootcamp is an advanced technical workshop tailored for CIOL members and external participants. This month-long program focuses on practical machine learning (ML) applications, assignments, and research-driven projects. Participants gain hands-on experience, contribute to publishable research, and build a robust GitHub portfolio to showcase their expertise.
The session focused on Computer Vision, covering its fundamentals, key tasks, and modern techniques. It began with an introduction to the field, followed by a discussion on its history and core tasks like classification and object detection. Participants explored popular frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch, along with a comparison between CNNs and Vision Transformers (ViTs) to understand their strengths and use cases. The practical segment involved setting up the environment, loading and pre-processing datasets, training a ViT model, and evaluating its performance. The session concluded with predictions on new data, providing a hands-on understanding of building computer vision models.
This comprehensive session was led by Azmine Toushik Wasi, a student of Industrial and Production Engineering at SUST, Bangladesh. With expertise in Biomedical AI and Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), Azmine's interdisciplinary research spans structural biology, molecular ML, and Human-Centered AI. A Kaggle Grandmaster and founder of CIOL, Azmine has published at prestigious venues such as ICLR, ACL, and NeurIPS workshops. As an experienced mentor, he guided participants in building practical ML solutions while fostering an understanding of research-driven methodologies.
🔗 Stay tuned for more sessions, cutting-edge ML insights, and research opportunities!
