But how in god's name could they ever give people the pictures back. Almost no one still lives in the same place 20 years later. Further they would need very detailed records of all 500k pictures. And dont forget about the massive cost of all the shipping the cuting extreamly carfull as they are tiny parts of big sheets. And paying the people keeping them organized. The picture only cost $38. What you payed for was it staying in the park all these years. They would have had to charge 500 at the time if pepole wanted to get them back. But now it's to late. Now it would be even more expensive.

I take a photo of mine every time i visit, so that when they do take it down (i know they will) I will have a sort of a photo history of how myself and my nephew changed over the years. Id like my nephew's wife and daughter to see it before its gone tho. And i never saw it as an eyesore. I always thought it was cool :P

Great video! I think the contract (slyly) stated that the etchings could be moved anywhere within Walt Disney World within the promised 20 years, and not necessarily inside of Epcot. They could cart these things off to a courtyard behind the All Stars Resort and still technically be within their obligations to the purchasers.

Honestly i dont mind them, to me they look like a rocky reef from which Spaceship Earth emerges, like a crescendo, rising from the earth to culminate in the spectacle that is the EPCOT icon.

I've always known Epcot with the legacy stones, so I don't mind them. They always seemed to be something vaguely futuristic and so I've always liked them. I didn't know too much about their history, so it's good to know. I wouldn't be upset if they were removed, but I don't really mind them either.

With the plaques, they should do something similar to the paving stones, ie. imbed all the plaques into the floor or flowerbed walls, It’s the big stones that are the problem, if they got rid of them, the plaques could be sprinkled throughout the park. I think that would be nice.

  • @NahShizzums

Idk honestly - as someone with their portrait on those stones (me and my brother back in 2001) I like them there. It kind of reminds me of Walt Disney’s original idea for a community at EPCOT - like all the people on those plaques are part of Epcot and we all belong

My biggest complaint about the entry plaza now is what happened to the large, see through towers with the Epcot symbol that sat on the fountain just past them? It looks so weird and bare with the empty circle on it. You can see them in the picture at the end of the video. I'm not sure if they were removed before the program started or even before that.

I love Epcot. I think this was a good idea at the time, but now they are just an eyesore. At least the stones around the Magic Kingdom are just part of the walkway and don't change how the park looks. Plus, it's just faces...that are usually pretty distorted when you look at them .You would have to know exactly where your photo was to find it. With the walkway stones they have names on them so you could eventually find your stone somewhere. I think getting rid of the stones and moving the plaques for now is the best idea.

I don't blame people for not liking them cosmetically, they are a bit of an eye sore where they currently are. But my family and I are on there, and I'm only 2-3 years old in my picture, so it means a lot to me to be on there. If they decide to take it down, I really hope they would allow people to acquire their piece of the plaques.

I have two pictures there toward the Spaceship Earth on the right side that I wouldn't mind buying to get back.

I understand how without context they look bad, but my mom, dad, newborn sister and I have our picture on that so I know exactly how much it can mean to others

I'm British and I'd love it if you did an extinct attraction from my home country (e.g: X no way out at Thorpe park, terror tombstone at Chessington world of adventures, the haunted house at Alton towers or the gold mine at Blackpool pleasure beach)

I like the stones. They’ve always been they’re for as long as I’ve been going to Disney world. I would be sad if they moved them.

They were always an eye sore to me ... the original (or some variation of it) entrance would be a welcome chance ... cleaner, "classier" and not having big slabs of rock there that ... just do not look very good .. at least in this park in this location, anyway

Little known fact: In the later years there were never enough sold to make a whole sheet. So there are a lot of repeats and made up Cast Member messages to fill in the spaces. :D

If these are ever removed, they should put in small flowering trees like in EPCOT’s original concept art AND bring back the sculpture that was removed from the fountain.
