Fulham fan here. It’s so sad to see another historic ground leaving us. I’m so lucky to still be able to go to Craven Cottage every game and live the history walking through the old turnstiles which are the same as 100 years ago. I understand times change and we have to move forward but Goodison like Craven Cottage is a piece of living history which has seen so many emotions over the century. I wish such places would last forever for new generations to feel and touch. A true Time Machine in the English football league.

Sadly, Craven Cottage is an outlier. Football sold its soul years ago. I think Leitch's main stand at the Cottage is listed but almost all the others he built have gone the 'way of the dodo' with those at Goodison soon to join them.

I think I'll cry when it's demolished. Had some of my best memories watching Everton with my dad and friends here.

Thank you for showing us the timeline of Goodison park wonderful changes thorought the years brings back some nostalgic memories, though i understand the need to move for a new stadium to Bramley dock in away i wish Everton could have stayed at Goodison i mean so many good memories over the years in recent times like the Division one championships of 1984-85 and 1986-87 and what a great team they had in the mid to late 80s sure its been a massive struggle since i hope they stay up the appeal for the first charge has been heard we wont know to about the middle of February. Im actually an Arsenal fan but also a football fan at heart. IT will be sad to see Everton move out of Goodison

The stadium hosted the most world cup games in 1966 (other than Wembley) which just shows the state and reputation it had. The group games featured Brazil which comprised of Pele, Eusebio of Portugal. The quarter final was played between Portugal and North Korea and in ths Semi Final, a 21 year old Franz Backenbauer played against the Soviet Union’s Black Spider, Lev Yashin. Other than that, Goodison had also hosted the glory of winning 9 top division title. I hope the stadium has another taker, perhaps Tranmere Rovers so that the stadium that had witnessed those historical events won’t be deleted from its physical presence.

From my point of view, it's tragic that Everton is about to leave this iconic stadium...I still cannot believe it. Yes, the idea of a stadium built right at the docks is quite appealing as well, but the loveliness and the charm of the Grand Old Lady will never come back after getting replaced by a stadium cold as ice from the outside and the inside. Why do so few British clubs take care to maintain the heritage of Archibald Leitch, the man who was responsible for making British stadiums looking so special and lovely?

Iconic Goodison... I wish if Everton owners renovated Goodison, just like what owners of Liverpool fc did to our beautiful Anfield... YNWA

From a football point of view, it's all about the money and generating as many revenue sources as possible. Heritage doesn't figure. I guess it's also because football stadia are working class and therefore deemed to be historically unimportant. Archibald Leitch (like Gustave Eiffel before him) was an engineer not an architect. If cathedrals and the like were pulled down there would be an outcry.

If you have spent much time at Goodison, you'd understand that despite an incredible atmosphere, it is no longer fit for purpose in the 21st Century and the EPL.
You may as well reminisce about ration cards and itchy blankets as well.
GP is too small, the facilities are generally atrocious, the access is not amazing, and worst of all many of the views are obstructed, some beyond belief (there are a few seats you cannot even see the whole of the park end goal from). Yes, the atmosphere is amazing. But the new stadium is purpose-built, not symmetrical (if you pay attention each stand is slightly different), pays a nod to its dockland roots and a bright shiny new future, and will have the 15,000 seater home end (South) will be the steepest in Europe, and also will have rail seating on the lower half (there will be a smaller section of rail seating for away fans in the "opposite" NE corner).
In an ideal world, we might have redeveloped GP in place by turning the pitch 90 degrees and removing a primary school and many houses (i.e. homes!) in the process. For whatever reason, this never came to pass, probably a combination of factors. Even in that plan, it is unlikely any of the old stands would have survived forever, even if perhaps part of the Main Stand/Top Balcony could have been kept as a new Goodison Rd end (noting how weird that always was, like the angled Wolves' stand).
The option of being the kingpin of re-energizing the North Liverpool Docks, with its proximity to both Goodison and the City Center, as well as a hopefully resurgent docks area, is very appealing. Kings Dock might have been better but we bungled it. For the new stadium, the design is impressive and the build has been great to follow [apart from the tragic death of a worker, RIP].
I am excited and delighted at the prospect of a new stadium, and we will long remember Goodison Park and we will bring its atmosphere with us; except there will be 13,000 more of us, all in the steepest stand in Europe, and with wider zero-obstruction seats and decent toilets and proper facilities.
Come on, come on, and get down to Bramley Moore Dock! (ooooooooohhhh!!!)

@@tulyar57 Goodison Park simply isn't viable for much longer. Of course, we need to generate more money (for obvious very well publicised reasons) but even without that driver, GP would have to go or change dramatically sometime in the foreseeable future.

I'm so glad they lwt the church stay, or that they refused to move.
a perfect example of a beautiful, character filled, four sided old stadium. reminds me vwey much of coventry's old highfield road ground.
such a shame to lose so many of these stadiums.
upton park, roker park, highbury, maine road, white hart lane all beautiful and old fashioned.
i do not care for modern bowls. the fact the emirates is a literal copy/paste of benfica's ground is just lazy to me. spurs new one isn't too bad but still the same boring shape
