This is Grim. I'm flattered that you spent so much time analyzing my game, but it feels pretty awful since it's a totally random game that I lost. I don't think my early decisions were terrible; I picked the right starting cards and the reptile house was unconventional but clever. I didn't take the rhino because it seemed too early for a rhino (they are expensive and I didn't have an obvious choice for a new project).
This is JD. The purpose was just checking out a random game, to see what common misstakes you and others do in the 200 elo bracket! I think not getting asia, not getting the rhino (you had 4 species and 3 asia, very clear what to grab with rhino) and not doing africa 2 earlier was you biggest early game misstakes.
Yeh, I think it's just the quality on it, I boosted the microphone like crazy for this video and I don't think i varied my voice too much, even if it might sound like it. Grim actually bought my headset, since my old one was even worse and he got sick of it, so I guess he's not just 200 elo at ark nova, but 200 elo at finding quality stuff as well?
Right. Grim here. I win about 50% of my games, making me (by definition) an average "elite" player. Every now and again I beat someone way higher than me, and sometimes I lose to someone in bronze league (who might be a smurf anyway).
@@monkeyunit4533 the win rate BGA show is normalised to 2-player games. So in 4-player games you win 1 in 4 (average) your win-rate would be displayed as 50%. And JD is saying 48% is low anyway....
Hi, i'm TrueMurfey :D I was obv shocked when seen myself in replay. Mooooom, im in YT! :D Got my plat today, feeling way stronger in game then a week ago or smth like that, when this game happened. Big fan, keep doing vids good sir.
and btw if you want, I have a replay with 6 sponsors and 2 proj first hand. Was so fun to play. I would rly like to hear how you would start the game like that.
Cool to here, hopefully I wasn't too harsh :) (towards you, grim deserves harshness.) Congratz! You beat grim fair and square (and that's with Grim having above average luck) and grim is a strong low elo player
On ice cream parlor I would have gone with baboon rock over water dragon, because I value sponsors that let me reach across the board pretty highly... Apparently too highly. But in my defense, baboon fits very nicely over the middle kiosk and the sponsor hex, after you've placed a bottom 3hex, a kiosk, and a 1 hex above it to hold the two predators, all while leaving the aviary space open.
I think this is a common minor pitfall on icp for intermediate players. Back in TTS days this is something me and darcel valued highly as well. Problem with baboon rock is the cost of 6 and the "monkey problem".
I think I can explain the Rhino/Vulture move. You always want to let the card you need go to discard so you have something to scavenge later. Otherwise scavenge is a pretty weak ability. Surprised you missed that.

Interesting idea for sure! Problem is I have to build up a bank with starts, which i currently haven't started on
I really enjoyed this video. Upstanding mistakes I make is as useful as see strong plays.

@6:32 you scroll down to see the other boards in the replay. How do you do that? I've replayed some games on BGA and couldn't figure it out.
Press the cogwheels to get to settings, player board layout: multiple view (I think it was actually grim who taught me this, what an outstanding guy)

if you only look at the last 100 games, my win rate is a lot higher than 46% :-)
48% is not "a lot" by definition.

how about 300 to 400? I stay 300-400 at 50 round, but I couldn't how to up skill. Always lose Arena's game.

Why would you do that? Even at scavenging 4, if there's 20 or more cards in the discard pile the chances of getting your card back are not good.
I'd like to hear grim's reasoning on it, but not sure how i tag him on the youtubes. Maybe he wanted to go scavaenging for the rhino?
