After US threatens ban, what could TikTok’s next move be? | DW News

  • The US is poised to ban TikTok unless the social media app cuts its ties to China. US lawmakers overwhelmingly voted for a bill which forces the Chinese owner to sell the app to an owner from a country other than China or face a total ban. The US is that the social media service could be used to collect American citizens' personal data and that it poses a threat to national security. China has protested, saying it's unfair to use those arguments to bring down the competitive advantage of other countries.

The US isn’t even trying to outright ban TikTok. It’s simply trying to force the Chinese company (ByteDance) that owns the US-based branch of TikTok it to sell it to a Western or Western-friendly buyer. That’s called “forced divestiture” in legal terms. The ban is simply being used to force ByteDance to choose between compliance, or being excluded from the US market.

Google is not more innocent then tiktok. They use and sell our userdatas by force. Since they are dominant and have no serious opponent in the market, they find themself right to manipulate User datas and ban the voices. Tiktok is not a compare to google but a rising opponent. China: There are the internet regulations that all internet Apps should follow, no matter the ownership of App. If not , blocked technically by its Great Firewall.
USA : no regulations Tiktok failed to follow so far. But Tiktok is owned by China company , it has to be sold to a US friendly company , otherwise , it is banned.
The same bill can be used to ban websites/Apps of any countries that US does not like , such as Middle East /Arabs media, Or Africa Media. Even worse, it can be used to ban Twitter (X) as US president can claim X is controlled by foreign enemy.
