Resizing, rotating, shearing…these are the core functions in any graphics program. But are you using these features to their full potential? Today we’ll look at the transform options in Affinity Designer, including working with origin points and transforming multiple objects at once.

Hi Trent, If you drag out a shape but forget to hold down the shift key to constrain its proportions , you can after the fact double click any of the shapes bounding points to automatically return it back to constrain its proportions.

Wait, what? I'm gonna try that...

That is pretty cool! So if I am understanding it correctly....if I double click one of the side points of the bounding box (not a corner point) it will put the shape into a square whose size is the longest edge. Is that what you are referring to?

Yes, I should have said top/bottom and side points, not corners.@@TechnicallyTrent

Excellent! Transform objects separately? 🤦🏻‍♂️ great tip! Wish I had known about this one before now. 😂 could have saved me a lot of time.

I didn't know what is the "Transform Objects Separately" for. Good to learn it. Thank you for all your very well and clear explained videos.

you explained the meaning of the white reference point very well
I could not even find that info in the Affinity official manual

Hi Trent. About the shear tool: within the studio box there is only the option to shear horizontally, but not vertically. Or is it? On the iPad version of Designer, there are no arrows at the sides of the bounding box, and the only way to shear an object is inside transform tools studio but, again, only horizontally not vertically. Or there is a way to shear in a vertical move? Thank you for your great videos

Hi @israelfranco9104, yes, as far as I can tell it is only able to sheer vertically in that menu unfortunately.
I have not used the iPad version, but I did see someone mention in the Affinity forums that you actually can sheer on the iPad by dragging slightly outside the shape on the UI. In this post, check out the video posted on July 3, 2019 by Eefr. It seems like they are able to do it:

      Hope this helps!

Im trying to make something bigger by a specific percentage for the new designer 2... but i cant find anyone talking about it...

    • @TechnicallyTrent

      Hi @nutmeg418,
In the Transform tab, in the W and H field, you can type:
      *2
after the current number, hit enter, and it will double the size. Make sure the link (chain) icon is checked if you want both W and H to scale at the same time. You can also type *200% if you like to work with percentages.
      Hope this helps!

@@TechnicallyTrent thank you I'll give this a try. I should have mentioned I'm on the iPad version lol so hopefully it is the same 🤞
Edit, it worked. Thank you so much 😭
