I started watching your videos as a great resource for learning about something I knew nothing about: aviation. But I hit the subscribe button mid-way through your back-catalog when I realized your channel was basically an immersive map of great BBQ joints.

The protrusions that Josh saw on the Apollo boilerplate, I believe are actually ports for RCS thrusters to be mounted, but without the motors installed, either for display purposes or they were not needed for whatever test flight the vehicle was intended for.

One thing you may have missed while at Alamogordo, White Sands, and the Space Museum is the fact that the Space Shuttle Columbia landed there on it's third mission (STS 3) on 30 March 1982. I was lucky enough to be a part of the USAF Security Police security detail for that landing at "White Sands Space Harbor."

Bringing back memories of my time living in Alamogordo, riding dirt bikes through the desert of Alamo and up in the mountains of Cloudcroft. My first taste of love for aviation came from, of all things, a balloon ride during the big rally they have there every year. Thanks for sharing and big props on this video, it really brought me back!

Josh, I enjoyed this episode immensely. Adventure includes not only making ILS approaches and navigating sketchy WX, it also includes discovering new remote places on the ground. You are a very proficient aviator but also have a gift for visual storytelling, something rare on YT.

1980-1983 I was stationed at Holloman AFB, and I have been to all the places you have mentioned in this video. FYI, the Space Shuttle Columbia landed at White Sands at the end of it's 3rd mission, STS 3. I worked security for that landing. It was one of the most memorable events of my 21 year USAF career.

I was three years old and in 1969, I bugged the crap out of my dad saying "why do we have a new TV and not use it?" he finally relented and turned it on. We watched after the Lunar lander landed on the moon. I also served in the USAF at Kirtland AFB New Mexico so thanks for the vidio! Goto BC Canada small towns have QUIET streets like the one you have shown!

That brought back memories. I was based at Holloman AFB, near Alamogordo, from '91 to '97. Worked the F-117 aircraft while assigned there with USAF. Spent many a day and overnight in Cloudcroft. Great place to visit. That 8600 foot elevation could wind you just walking across that Main Street! Too bad you couldn't squeeze in a visit to The Lodge Resort hotel. Great piece of history. You may have bumped into Rebecca, the fiery red headed, blue eyed chambermaid that, supposedly, lives there.....as a ghost. Bucket list it for your next trip to Cloudcroft if you've not seen it.
