@@mary6m Pretty much in a nutshell, William Afton killed some kids, stuffed their bodies into animatronic suits, and their souls possessed said animatronics. Then each animatronic that you run into, like Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, etc. are each possessed by one child William killed in the past. There's a whole lot more that I can't fit in this reply, but those are the main points. You can look it up online somewhere, there's probably someone who summarized the lore much better than I did.

For those who are wondering why William killed charlie for no reason it's because when the bite of 83 occurred William thought it was because of Henry Emily so he killed Charlotte as revenge *for people who are new to fnaf*
That’s still debated I for one never liked the idea that the bore of 83 was supposed to give him a sympathetic motive and i definitely don’t believe it should be considered the first kill (in fact I think it’s the third since Charlie gives a motive for building baby and a double child murder at these restaurants would codify CC’s fear of the murder bots especially if it involved his sister) As for why William killed Charlie I can see Matpat idea if drunken revenge for buying him out or he’s just a piece of shit (I mean it’s safe to assume he was probably abusive or at the very least criminally negligent given the FNAF4 mini games show he allows Micheal to torment CC and midnight motorist did suggest he was going to brutally punish the one that escaped from there room (I say CC but even if this is Micheal after the event I don’t see why this wouldn’t carry over)
@@jmurray1110idk i mean to imply that he was purely evil is just kind of boring. i like the idea that he was pushed over the edge and leaned into psychotic tendencies because he was looking to blame people. that's the thing is that him being purely evil wouldn't make any sense if he wanted to start a franchise for children and for him to have 3 kids himself, i get that's a cop out, but he had a tipping point and he wanted to kill Henry's kid in revenge and he killed all the others to experiment with remnant. because he was trying to find a way to bring evan back to life. that sounds the most interesting in my opinion. if he was purely evil that doesn't give for a very good villain at all.
i’ve been terrified of FNAF since i was younger, but with the new movie coming out, i thought i’d finally learn the lore. i love your commentary and how you still crack jokes while this children are being murdered :)
Also: -Glamrock Freddy could be Michael as Freddy in SB says he remembers this place and such -Gregory could be Evan (due to visual resemblance) and it supports the theory of him being an animatronic. And the room covered in sticky notes are him regaining some of memories of his past life -the two first points connect as Michael wants to protect Gregory (gulit of causing his brother death haunting him ever unconciously) and the longer they are together, the more he starts to remember -The Pizzaplex is bulit on the old, burnt pizzeria, hence presence of Burntrap and Blob -Blob is some turbo mix of all animatronics and souls that were supposed to be freed (and yes, they despise Burntrap af) Fun fact: Burntrap is William, duh. But if Michael is Freddy, Gregory is Evan and Blob has a piece of Elizabeths soul, this is seriously unhinged family reunion 🙃
I don't think Blob has a piece of Elizabeth soul because if you take a closer look at Circus Baby's appearance her eyes weren't glowing meaning if animaltronic eyes aren't glowing they weren't possessed
The thing about fnaf is that the people that don’t know the lore just think that it’s about a guy working a late night shift that has to deal with the mascots trying to kill them. Where as they ppl who pieced together the cut scenes and arranged timelines for each of them probably could tell you about fnaf for one hour straight and miss key details. It’s one of the reasons it went as far as it did. The rabbit hole goes deeper then any other video game has reached. Scott truly is a genuine genius to say the least.
FNAF 6's ending was absolutely phenomenal, you didn't need to have a full grasp on the lore to understand what was happening. It was the perfect end to an amazing game series. Then security breach happened...

as someone who knows absolutely nothing, nothing about FNAF and it's lore, this video was really useful for me to understand what's all the hype about. Plus the occasionally memes and humourous, chill speech throughout really makes this video enjoyable. So thank you crog for this video! Informative and funny
Oh my... I have been into FNAF since it came out. I have listened so many theories, but it has always been so complicated! I have never understood what the heck is going on until now... Beautifully summarised.
not only does this make sense but it's funny as hell and concise, so kudos! also Henry's speech at the end of fnaf 6 legit makes me tear up, the script is so powerful
Here's some loose ends in the video: - FNaF 2 (Bite of '87) - Evan's story (the nightmares, the illusion discs) - Where does UCN take part? How did Afton escape it to get into Security Breach?) - Was Cassidy really set free? (extra cutscene in UCN) - Where does FNaF AR take part? I guess these things were left out to make the video more comprehensible but these things are definitely important.
- i forgot about fnaf 2, it was another location Henry and William opened together but I don’t remember the story there. It probably wasn’t included because it’s not critical to understanding the full story. - Evan’s story before Evan was bitten (the bite of ‘83), but after Elizabeth was killed, Evan actually loved animatronics. William did not allow Evan to ever enter the pizzeria because he was terrified of losing his other child. Evan snuck over anyway, so William came up with a plan: he made illusion discs which emitted a frequency outside of the human range of hearing which can overload the brain and trick it into hallucinating false images and sounds. He used these discs to conjure the nightmare versions of the animatronics (Freddy, Chica, Foxy, Bonnie) so that Evan would be permanently terrified of the real ones, too. William traumatized his own son on purpose. Great dad. Ironically, if Evan had never been scared of the animatronics, Michael wouldn’t have bullied him for his fear, and he never would’ve died. -UCN is basically purgatory for William. After his death in pizza sim, he gets sent to the UCN world (or purgatory) where he’s forced to relive a scenario where he’s being killed by all the different animatronics. Evan and the souls of the original 5 kids are his torturers. Eventually, Evan and the kids are able to find peace within themselves and they abandon the torture, allowing their souls to move on to true death and ending William’s torture. This is explained in the Easter Egg with Old Man Consequences. No idea how he escaped - No idea - No idea (could be that Fnaf AR isn’t canon to the story) - Bonus fact: William murdered his wife after he kicked Michael out of the home and put her soul inside of Bellora.
I love Fnaf so much growing up, but I never understood the lore until now in preparation for the movie coming out, so thank you for this video!! You’ve save me (and others) so much time!🤩
This was one hell of a thing to be caught up on. I haven’t kept track of fnaf since it first came out, and despite the loose ends having things added on, I like the storytelling.
There's a couple generally important missing things, such as how Evan didn't immediately die and thus was the existence of the nightmare era, but overall, this is absolutely amazing, and very impressive. Your work is *very* much appreciated!!
@@pinacolata6035 oh yeah yeah i absolutely get that :D I dont remember exactly as i watched this video quite a while ago, but if my memory is correct, it mentioned evan died immediately, which is techbically untrue. Let me get back you on that though, theres a really good chance i'm just making it up lmaooo
update, all that was said was "..causing the animatronic to bite down on william's kid like a big mac, killing him." So i was slightly incorrect hahah And i think youre right, as the way he words it is still open enough to not have to mention the nightmares, because either way Evan dies lol
this timeline is actually wrong, Matpat made a new timeline series months after this and is more accurate, since this is only 10 minutes he's missing a lot of information
As someone who has been searching for a lore video to explain the lore ever since I got attached to fnaf, this is amazing. Though I can’t say I finally understand all the lore, there is much more to cover and there are like infinite different theories, but in ten mins this sums up the basic lore and I love it
I only just recently joined the Fnaf fandom (coincidentally near the 10 year anniversary) and it’s been so confusing so far but this video is a freakin LIFE SAVER THANK YOU 🙏
5:37 the spring locks didn’t just get loose, the moisture dripping from the roof of the room as seen caused them to lock up/activate. same thing happened with the bite of 87 where evan was crying, which caused them to get wet and lock up as well. small detail but it’s still kinda interesting
Genuine question cuz I'm kinda new to this lol, didn't William get springlocked twice? Surviving the first/longer than he was supposed to? I'm not sure but I'm curious
@@quick.act_strange He only got springlocked in 1993, at the end of the last night minigame in FNAF3. He had been stuck in Springbonnie suit for years.
Ive always been to afraid to play fnaf because i hate the jumpscares and some versions of the animatronics like withered chica really creep me out, but recently ive been wanting to learn more about the deep lore that everyone loves to joke about. Thank you for so easily summarising it for me
Classic example of less is more. The more you learn about the lore the less scary it gets, and the more confusing it gets. The first game is still the scariest because it only leans into backstory a tiny bit, which is enough when you’re trying to create fear
FNAF 2 is the peak IMO. Still leaves plenty of mystery, and the twist of it being a prequel and Phone Guy’s new phone calls made it so intriguing during the peak of FNAF 2 hype. 3 and on is when it starts getting a little convoluted…
@@weskerrun4647besides the fact that it’s just a rng fest with it not being scary after the first jumpscare and the only good thing being the animatronic designs People are blinded by nostalgia but fnaf 2 is the worst game in the franchise It’s lore is heavy though which is great because the fnaf 2 night 6 phone call makes the lore really understandable
So I only played the first game and was surprised at just how deep the movie was as I thought it was only going to be about killer animatronics. This video definitely helps me understand the movie better. Thanks!
I played Fnaf as a kid but was never a huge fan like my friends but when I heard about the movie coming out I knew that I was going to watch it. So I thought I’d finally dig into the lore. I had no idea where to start and then came across this video, thanks so much!

This video was awesome! The fact you pieced the whole lore together so easily to understand, and the fact you kept it funny the whole way through is insane. Great job bro, you earned a sub.
I miss when every 3 FNAF Game Theory episodes were "since everything's changed, let's just go through the new time line". This was so perfect as a sum up of the whole series right now, and after another game or two, another video like this would be awesome!
you dont even know how much this helped lmao i was figuring out lore for like a year or 2 already (literally trying to watch 30 minute matpat videos) BUT THIS IS AWESOME!
So I never delved into the FNAF lore after all these years, only knowing basic things like the possessed suits, the bite of 87, Springtrap, but learning the deep lore feels crazy to learn.
You literally saved me from trying to piece together the lore- There are still a lot of things to figure out but this literally saved like a year or two of my life thanks
Wow I remember desperately looking for slivers of FNAF lore when I was in high school and the first two games had just dropped, it’s so crazy where it all lead to
*William didn't specifically design the ones at the FNAF 1 location to have a compartment for storing kids, he didn't do that until later in the timeline with the funtime bots. he more likely just SHOVED them in there.* 2:14
I watched fnaf since it came out with Markiplier. All these years watching all of the fnaf games I kinda understood the base story, but this just opens the next level of story telling in one video. Thank you.
You're gonna get an uptick in views as the movie gets closer to release. Thank you for the breakdown, I can't imagine how difficult it was to whittle this down into something succinct that doesn't lose out on any context/details
Learning about FNAF is the same as learning about the Roman Empire. You can go for the important and interesting parts and condense it in a lovely Powerpoint Presentation. Or you can start learning 112 Emperors, who killed whomest whenest howest and with whatest method.
The order of the first seven games being 4-5-2-1-3-6-7 is the theory that makes the most sense. But one thing I can't work around is how the 5 missing children ended up in Molten Freddy. The 5 missing children were still in their original animatronics (Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy and Golden Freddy) during the events of Sister Location, which mens Funtime Freddy, Funtime Foxy, Ballora and Bon-Bon can't be possessed by them. This gives the impression that the only soul in Sister Location is Elizabeth (Baby), that Elizabeth only became Ennard as a way to rebuild a body for her so she could escape (in this case, Ennard's eyes scattered around his body wouldn't necessarily mean that there are more souls inside of him, but simply imply that Elizabeth had to put together what she could to rebuild her a new body so that she could escape), that then Ennard just became Scrap Baby (maybe Elizabeth did this so her father could recognize her, since William knew Elizabeth was inside Baby, and presuming Elizabeth knew or supposed William knew that), and that Molten Freddy would then be unrelated to Ennard. If that was the case, how did the 5 missing children ended in Molten Freddy? Were the pieces of the dismantled animatronics reunited by them to make Molten Freddy? In this case, Molten Freddy's eyes scattered around his body could be from the original withered animatronics, and not from the funtime ones (despite looking like a clear reference to Ennard's eyes). Hadn't these souls vanished after William's first "death" in the Spring Bonnie suit and after the Happiest Day mini games? This last question isn't all that problematic, though. They could have returned after they saw William had also returned as Springtrap. Nevertheless, if we assume Molten Freddy comes from Ennard, we'll have even greater issues. If the number of souls inside Molten Freddy is 5, which we theoretically know from that storyteller robot from Pizzeria Simulator, are these 5 souls the same original 5, or are these 5 other souls? If it's the original 5, which would tie to the ending screen with the graves, how did they end up in Molten Freddy? If they were inside Ennard, consequently being in the funtime animatronics before that (which are only 4 besides Baby, if we count Bon-Bon), how did they get there? This would have to make us change Sister Location's placement in the timeline. If the funtime animatronics were made after the destruction of the original withered animatronics, being their old pieces used or not in this process, how would William have done that, being left for dead for 30 years in Spring Bonnie's suit immediately after the destruction of the original withered ones? He couldn't have done that. So, if there were 6 souls inside Ennard (the 5 ones we know inhabited Molten Freddy plus Elizabeth), these 5 souls can't be the original 5 souls from the original Missing Children Incident. This would make the original 5 have had their rest after William's first death and after the Happiest Day mini games, and then make these other 5 have had their rest after the end of Pizzeria Simulator. But why then would the graves in the ending screen have the names of the original 5 missing children (which we know from what is told in Into the Pit)? Who were these other 5 then? Were they killed by the funtime animatronics? The funtime animatronics could have only killed other 3 children besides Elizabeth (since Bon-Bon obviously couldn't). It makes no sense. What makes the most sense is the 5 souls in Molten Freddy be the original 5 souls from the well known Missing Children Incident. But still, how did they end up in Molten Freddy? Molten Freddy can't be Ennard after expelling Elizabeth because Ennard in this version is only Elizabeth after finding a way to escape. So, if Scrap Baby is Ennard, where does Molten Freddy come from? How did the 5 end up in there? Besides, there's one more thing to keep in mind. There's also this theory in which Golden Freddy (that, for this theory to work, has to be the original Fredbear animatronic/spring costume from the bite of '83) has not only one, but two souls inside of him: Evan Afton and Cassidy ("The One You Should Not Have Killed", the one from the original Missing Children Incident that was stuffed into Fredbear/Golden Freddy). In this case, the souls that find rest after the Happiest Day mini games would be the ones inside Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy and Evan. Cassidy would then be the one to endlessly torture William in Ultimate Custom Night. But things would also have complications considering this. The graves from the ending screen in Pizzeria Simulator are most likely to be Charlotte's (Marionette/Lefty), Elizabeth's (Baby/Scrap Baby), and from the 4 souls previously inside Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy. That being the case, there would not only be one, but two missing graves: Cassidy's and Evan's. In this case, the 5 souls inside Molten Freddy would be Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy plus Evan, or plus Cassidy? Being Cassidy would tie to the Old Man Consequences' minigame ("Leave the demon to his demons"). But where would be Evan, then. Did he openly decide simply not to come back? Why? It's his father these souls are after. He would surely at least try to do something, for better or worse. In my opinion, that's where this theory falls apart, though. Apparently makes sense in the beginning, but when you look through this perspective, it doesn't actually. Evan simply died a normal death and didn't possess any animatronic. So, anyways, there are still some pieces missing to this puzzle. Great video, though.

For those who are wondering why William killed charlie for no reason it's because when the bite of 83 occurred William thought it was because of Henry Emily so he killed Charlotte as revenge
*for people who are new to fnaf*
Ty for the info
That’s still debated
I for one never liked the idea that the bore of 83 was supposed to give him a sympathetic motive and i definitely don’t believe it should be considered the first kill (in fact I think it’s the third since Charlie gives a motive for building baby and a double child murder at these restaurants would codify CC’s fear of the murder bots especially if it involved his sister)
As for why William killed Charlie I can see Matpat idea if drunken revenge for buying him out or he’s just a piece of shit (I mean it’s safe to assume he was probably abusive or at the very least criminally negligent given the FNAF4 mini games show he allows Micheal to torment CC and midnight motorist did suggest he was going to brutally punish the one that escaped from there room (I say CC but even if this is Micheal after the event I don’t see why this wouldn’t carry over)
@@jmurray1110I ain't reading allat
@@angellaudios in short
Williams was evil before the bite of 83 so killing Charlie first is my preferred interpretation
Its interesting to see how matpat's interpretation and your interpretation of the lore sometimes clash and sometimes match, Good video!
i’ve been terrified of FNAF since i was younger, but with the new movie coming out, i thought i’d finally learn the lore. i love your commentary and how you still crack jokes while this children are being murdered :)
Some of these things were a bit wrong tho, William actually died before michael
same
Same🙀
the movie doesn't really have anything to do with the lore though if that's what you're worried about

Also:
-Glamrock Freddy could be Michael as Freddy in SB says he remembers this place and such
-Gregory could be Evan (due to visual resemblance) and it supports the theory of him being an animatronic. And the room covered in sticky notes are him regaining some of memories of his past life
-the two first points connect as Michael wants to protect Gregory (gulit of causing his brother death haunting him ever unconciously) and the longer they are together, the more he starts to remember
-The Pizzaplex is bulit on the old, burnt pizzeria, hence presence of Burntrap and Blob
-Blob is some turbo mix of all animatronics and souls that were supposed to be freed (and yes, they despise Burntrap af)
Fun fact: Burntrap is William, duh. But if Michael is Freddy, Gregory is Evan and Blob has a piece of Elizabeths soul, this is seriously unhinged family reunion 🙃
what happened to williams wife
@@blwtz7743 There is little known about her, but some theories say she posessed Ballora 🤔
@@moonsunstars oh interesting
I don't think Blob has a piece of Elizabeth soul because if you take a closer look at Circus Baby's appearance her eyes weren't glowing meaning if animaltronic eyes aren't glowing they weren't possessed
Someone watches game theory (I do too and I agree)
The thing about fnaf is that the people that don’t know the lore just think that it’s about a guy working a late night shift that has to deal with the mascots trying to kill them. Where as they ppl who pieced together the
cut scenes and arranged timelines for each of them probably could tell you about fnaf for one hour straight and miss key details. It’s one of the reasons it went as far as it did. The rabbit hole goes deeper then any other video game has reached. Scott truly is a genuine genius to say the least.

not only does this make sense but it's funny as hell and concise, so kudos! also Henry's speech at the end of fnaf 6 legit makes me tear up, the script is so powerful
Here's some loose ends in the video:
- FNaF 2 (Bite of '87)
- Evan's story (the nightmares, the illusion discs)
- Where does UCN take part? How did Afton escape it to get into Security Breach?)
- Was Cassidy really set free? (extra cutscene in UCN)
- Where does FNaF AR take part?
I guess these things were left out to make the video more comprehensible but these things are definitely important.
Totally agreed man
- i forgot about fnaf 2, it was another location Henry and William opened together but I don’t remember the story there. It probably wasn’t included because it’s not critical to understanding the full story.
- Evan’s story
before Evan was bitten (the bite of ‘83), but after Elizabeth was killed, Evan actually loved animatronics.
No idea how he escaped
- No idea
- No idea (could be that Fnaf AR isn’t canon to the story)
- Bonus fact: William murdered his wife after he kicked Michael out of the home and put her soul inside of Bellora.

This man makes the lore 10 x funnier
9:44 Until the book is-
The order of the first seven games being 4-5-2-1-3-6-7 is the theory that makes the most sense.
