Why is UCLA-Gonzaga always an instant classic
When else has UCLA played Gonzaga? Only in 2021 when Jalen suggs hit that game winner right? That's only 2 good games
@Raymond Qiu Sweet 16 in 2006. UCLA came back from a huge deficit and left Adam Morrison crying
The gigantic swings every game. So fun.
@Raymond Qiu 8 games starting in 1999. Zags have won 6 of them.
@Raymond Qiu like in 2006 and one other time
Gonzaga came back from down 13 at halftime to be up by 10 with with 2:30 left to be down by 1 with 18 seconds to hit a logo 3 to win. What a game!!
Yeah great game I agree, it was a classic. Fews coached way too many games to coach how he did with a minute left. It was awful, just like Campbell getting a three off with 1 second left there, should of happened, he couldve called a to eout told the guy to miss it, and then UCLA has to throw a full court heave if they even get a shot off, Few was awful truthfully.
Some say the three-point shot is the reason this happens and I agree, which is exactly why for the love of God, we cannot add a four point shot! it’s turning into the luckier team wins instead of the better team
No the other team collapsed and Gonzaga played kind of good and passed them .
@K L Hwrong, it was a back and forth game
@ChiefBlue4298 I agree 👍
This was like a final four matchup in the sweet 16 it felt. Another instant classic when these teams meet
West region was deep it was a final four matchup
Right on the money, pure basketball. UCLA had an 11 minute scoring drought and I still couldn’t look away from the screen.
That last Gonzaga 3 is literally what Villanova ran to beat UNC in the national title game
i was literally yelling “VILLANOVA” as soon I saw the trailing man
True! I saw that game!
exactly
In the post game press conference Few said they call that the Villanova play. They’ve run it a few times for Strawther this year to close out games.
Yep! Copy cat league haha
As a diehard zags fan who lives in Spokane this game gave me like five heart attacks
I’m in Spokane too. Been a fan of them for years
Same… how are you supposed to go to sleep after that? Every time I calm down I watch the highlight again 😂
Same supporting this team isn’t easy but it’s fun
Let's go
same
Timme was doing EVERYTHING. Rebounds, 3’s, blocks, scoring in the paint. He does so much for his team. Respect man 💪🏼
Timme is a beast
I hope they win this year
Hopefully he'll be tired Saturday night😂
Those bricked clutch free throws though
@Some random patriots fan 😂😂
Everything but making free throws.
That last shot was insane, wouldn’t have thought they’d gone for that but hey - it worked!
People would say its a horrible shot if it missed 😂
1 point game. They werent shooting well from the line. That means a jump shot was their best hope. Enough time for a foul if they missed. Worst case another chance at a 3 after the free throws.
Rim magnets 🧲. It was going down from half court.
I had $8k on Gonzaga in a live bet, so that last shot saved me.
15k on it. Loved rigged sports 💎
And to think of that shot doesn’t go in, Drew Timme would forever hate himself for missing those two free throws. Good thing he gets another chance
Like Ray Allen vs the spurs
@Tristen Rodrigue I wouldn’t go that far it’s not like drew Timmie missed a shot (like Lebron did) and it was offensive rebounded and kicked out to ray ray
Kudos to both teams, fans, and coaches. Very impressive effort, amazing athletes!
This is hands down the most entertaining tournament I’ve borne witness to. So many close games and unexpected upsets. Just sad my frogs lost so early
You got the dawgs instead😙
@Pook Gonzaga is actually my second favorite team so I was really conflicted during that matchup 😅
@JoJus24 I’m glad, you guys had a great season its not easy to beat texas, kansas and baylor
The spirit of Adam Morris and lives on with these two teams play
Morrison
unbiased fan of neither team this is one of the greatest games of all time the swagger to just pull up at the logo down 1 is CRAZY!!
What a game. This tourney has turned in some all time great games
What a monumental collapse
Main takeaway from this game is just how good this UCLA team is. They are probably the best team in the country. It took Gonzaga, the nation’s best offense, a desperate three point shot 5 feet beyond the three point line to beat a UCLA squad without its two best defenders and 40% of its starting lineup. We’re talking about the best defender in the country (Clark) and conference freshman of the year (Bona). We all know what happened the last time a team squeezed out a narrow win over these Bruins without Bona and Clark. They lost to a #15 seed in the first round.
As a Texas Longhorns fan thank you Gonzaga for saving my bracket!!
Till we meet again🫡
Return the favor then cuz I need Texas to save my bracket
Great adjustment by Zags coach going with Malachi smith and sallis in the 2nd half changed the game 2 bigger guards that kept their man out the paint
What an exciting game! I'm impressed with Timme, but I have to agree with the UCLA bench about his travels. There were a good 3 or 4 plays where he shuffles his feet or changes pivot feet with no travel calls. This game is the definition of an exciting March Madness game.
Yeah and that just gives more momentum along with the extra points. That was crazy
He also camps in the lane.
When his defender his shoving his legs and his pivot foot moves 2inches or so it’s either called a defensive foul (Timmie gets hacked no calls 80% of time in the post) or the ref let’s the slight travel go. You can’t just body an offensive player like the ucla guys were and not expect and foul or a travel. Pick your poison buddy
What a game! Drew Timme's footwork is always a beauty to watch. I have Gonzaga going all the way this year, rooting for you zags!
Yeah I doubt they will beat Alabama unless miller is injured.
@K L Hthey beat Alabama by 10 earlier this year
This is March madness, on a good day any team can be beaten.
@K L H u got a kentucky logo you dont know the first thing about basketball Zags beat bama theyll do it again
@SkiJumpp That game was also in Alabama
In 2006 sweet sixteen, UCLA was down 13 at the half and won. In 2023 sweet sixteen, Gonzaga was down 13 at the half and won.
The winners in this match-up in the sweet sixteen should call it the sweet 13...
Note to self, if they match up again whoever is down by 13 at halftime will win
I am a Zags fan,and I am so happy for this win.As for UCLA ,keep your heads up,the bruins are a tough bunch. My hat,s off to you. What a game,it could,ve gone either way.
This was an outstanding game! Both teams played very good.
I love the way these teams play. Good sportsman like attitudes. Speaks well of the character of the coaches and players.
The emotions raging back and forth in this game were intense. Great game by both teams and what this tournament is all about. Instant classic for sure! The craziness of those last few minutes though. Wow.
Love the reaction of the fans! Never do you see so many people praying on TV than at the end of a sporting event.
Man what a heartbreaker for UCLA lol, to come back from 10 down in the last 2min with a CLUTCH three - only to get buried with a even more clutch three…
I still remember the final four from 2 years and how much a thriller that was watched the entire game. Didn’t get to for this one but it had to the same feel to it even watching highlights I really thought Ucla was going to get their revenge had them in the final four this year but that f’n Drew Timme man…great game between once again 👏🏾👏🏾💯
This is why I love March madness, easily one of my fav sporting events
I love the Gonzaga Bulldogs, "NEVER SAY DIE ATTITUDE" never surrender unto the last seconds...Forever Go Zagsssssss
Good game by Zaga but let’s give props to Kevin Harlan the goat commentator 🐐 this game wouldn’t be as exciting without him. and shout out coach Stan van Gundy too
Elite 8 should be lit 🔥
Absolutely a instant classic. Every March these 2 teams needs to play each other!!!!
What a game! Never saw Drew Timme before but he's the best college player I've seen all year.
between him and that dude from bama.
Drew Timme was eatin' up that black boy #14 for UCLA!!!
@Peter A Brandon Miller had one of the worst tournament performances I've ever seen, 3/19 and 6 turnovers vs SDSU , 5/17 against Maryland and 0 points in the fist round
@5mini10 I'm so happy for you.. I'm a black guy who started this thread but not to turn it into a racist forum. Great game by Drew
@TheTlewis3074 So...... if y'all be sayin' "white boy" all the time it don't be racist! Numsayin'.
Stunning that UCLA was even able to claw back and even take the lead after being down 9 points with just a minute left. It was perfect execution until the last play. Would have been a similar comeback to 2006 but the only difference was in 2006, UCLA pressed on the last possession and didn't let Gonzaga get a shot off
what a game that was!!! go zags and Drew Timme, greetings from Poland
Timme was awesome. Nothing weirder than the people who hate on awesome college players like Timme and Nowell cuz they "wont make the league" as if that negates them having great college careers. Both will probs play overseas, play the game they love at a professional level, and make good money doing it. Good on Timme. And 22 is a normal age for a college player who stays all 4 years.
Timme is a beast... passer, big man and scorer
6:46 This seems to be where the game started to slip through UCLA's fingers. Gonzaga's Watson (#22) has his shot blocked and UCLA's Nwuba (#14) gets a hand on the rebound with a chance to take possession and go up 14 or 15 points. But instead of grabbing the rebound, Nwuba looks like he's trying to tap the ball to Campbell (#10). But this allows Timme (#2) to get to the ball, and turn it basically into a 4-point play for Gonzaga. The Bulldogs destroyed the Bruins on the boards, and this play is exhibit A as to why. Gonzaga was hustling, going hard after every ball.
As a Zags fan I had some serious 2006 Sweet 16 PTSD for about 5.2 seconds of game action. What a game. Go Zags. And to UCLA fans who are broken hearted right now. I know your pain
Well, it's mitigated somewhat by the ELEVEN banners we have hanging from the rafters at Pauley, old son.
@War Planner I'm a Yankees fan too. Its been a while for both of us
@Dave Bohnen it’ll stay that way for awhile too until cashman actually does something cuz all he did was sigh Carlos Rodon
@Tristen Rodrigue you're probably right
That was an amazing game by both sides, just wow.
Timmie was exhausted at the end poor guy, he was giving that big dude the work all night.
Yeah poor guy getting paid millions to play basketball... Poor guy.
@K L H yeah bro, next funeral you’re at make sure you don’t cry, there are people with even less than you. I’m allowed to admire someone who gave something their all and accomplished what they were going for. If you want to be a pessimist you do you.
@K L H ya ,dude, quit hating.Let us enjoy this victory for a bit.Why are u so sour ?? Could it be that all the teams you had on your bracket have lost so far.Everyone,s bracket was busted.
@K L H No, he's not _"...getting paid millions to play basketball..."
If he went pro, he'd probably only be getting paid an estimated $200,000-$500,000 but staying n the NCAA, he's probably making between $500,000-$750,000 in 'Name, Image and Likeness' with Walker’s Furniture.
NIL helps to keep elite players in the NCAA, which further helps to develop their skills and keeps more fans in many arenas.
You also don't appreciate the life sacrifices pro- or eventual pro-athletes have to make to get those (maybe) "millions".
my heart breaks so much for the UCLA players that this was their last ride for. this one really hurt.
yea who cares about the other 200 teams
Refs tried to give it to ucla
@Lazy Eddieucla was better just didn’t have a real big
Nah, what hurts is the fact they didn’t get a chance to show how good they really were. This UCLA squad had nearly the perfect ingredients for a national title run. They were the best constructed and run team in the country. It’s a shame they didn’t get the chance to prove it on the court. That’s what stings.
@CloutSznThey have a real big. He just couldn’t play. They were trying to avoid what happened in the Arizona game when their bigs ran out of fouls and Bona was injured.
INSANE, not one One Seed left, and only one Two seed left who's game is about to get started. Outstanding!
Give us UCLA-Gonzaga every season, please!
Nice comeback Gonzaga🎉
Aside from the blessing-and curse-this game was: imagine getting outrebounded 34-11 in the 2nd half and going more than 11 minutes without a basket and thinking “hey let’s put in a slow footed 6’2 guard who’s 2/27 from 3 to take some of the load off” Cronin’s stubbornness may be worse than Matt Painters. Fitting Bruins are going to the Big10
McClendon was not ready for these types of games. Coach put too much faith in him. He should have developed Canka after Clark got injured.
Oh 1000000% it’s bugged me especially seeing Peyton Watson go ballistic the other day on defense in the NBA. For a defensive coach, what is he doing playing a guy who’s hobbled and out of shape and undersized. Don’t know if Cronin can ever get it done.
Just hours before thought we had game of the Tourney with K St-MSU, then this one delivers all time classic drama with such crazy momentum swings to get there
Bailey’s could’ve been shot of the tourney then Strawther answers with an even bigger one.. March at its best
Both teams fought until the end, through all the ups and downs. Bunch of warriors👏
Gonzaga never panicked, they showed there experience in tournament play
Great job Gonzaga! You stood together and came out the winner🎊🎉😎!
#3 Gonzaga will face #4 UConn on Saturday at Las Vegas for the West Region.
It’s their Elite 8 since 2021
Wow 🏀 what a great game 🎉
Two well coached teams Zags grinded the victory
They let Timme dance on both pivots and all night and not one travel call 😂
Spoken like a true UCLA fan.
Wow, you know so much more than the real NCAA refs. Pat yourself on the back!
@Dennis Adams I'm a neutral. It was embarrassing how much Timme traveled. Guy's footwork is a joke.
I've watched college basketball for a long time & the overall skill level is increasing each year. You expect teams like UCLA & Gonzaga to play well, but the smaller colleges are punching above their weight & it is only a matter of time before a super low seed wins the title. That's what I pray for, that's what i want to see...
This has been an awesome tournament
Drew Timme has Kevin McHale-esque footwork in the paint. He’s fun to watch.
UCLA played tough considering not having two starters both of which all conference defensive team and it took a 32ft shot to beat them
They still should have won! But, if we are giving pats on the backs. Good job chokers🎉
Up 13 at half you should win this game!
@Michael Richardson They dont have their best defenders, But yeah even as a UCLA fan we def choked that but good game
UCLA had an insurmountable mountain to climb. Even without Clark, they had a good chance to win. Without Bona as well though in a game against Gonzaga with a big like Timme, it becomes too much to overcome. They’re obviously much better than Gonzaga.
@ShowtimeBruin if they were better they would have won - smh
The goat, Kevin Harlan on the mic to top of this absolute spectacle of a matchup. Undefeated!
after the uh...less than stellar announcers Gonzaga had last weekend, having Kevin Harlan on the mic is really a night and day difference.
Way to hold the lead, Bruins.
UCLA was celebrating too early, they thought they had this!!! I used to live in Wash St.! Good job Zags!!!!!
I hope we get to see timme in the nba. Some say he wouldn’t perform but dude is a baller you never know
In '06, GZ was up 71-62, here it was 72-62. Back then UCLA went on an 11-0 run, here it was 14-2. Just like then, the Zags missed a bunch of shots and committed silly fouls. But then the ending: in '06 the score at the final timeout was 71-70 GZ with 19 seconds, here it was 76-75 UCLA with 12 seconds. Farmar's go-ahead bucket in '06 was with 8.6 remaining, Strawther's was with 7.2. Just like Ravio in '06, Campbell rushed the ball upcourt with no timeouts and had the ball stripped without getting a shot off. The final foul was with 1.9 then, 1.4 here. Just like Afflalo in '06, Strawther missed the front end and made the back end, allowing for an inbound. And finally, just like Batista in '06 (Batista with the CAAAAATCH) Campbell got a good look at a tying shot only to have it clang off. Absolutely eerie the similarities between the two games 17 years apart.
Timme Timme Timme Timme Timme!!!!!!!! He has taken his game to another level. What a game this was.
Instant classic!
TIMME!!! AND TEAM, ALL DID GREAT!!!
The last 2 minutes of this game had me on pins and needles
11:18 To the highlight people…yes maybe I should do my own highlights, but when it’s a game like this and Gonzaga hits a three to take the lead, please show the other teams possession! I was like “wait…why did Gonzaga hit a three and now they’re at the free throw line?!? Did he get fouled? I did not hear a whistle.”
No lead is safe against Gonzaga, the comeback kids.
What a THRILLING GAME🏀🏀🏀🏀
Ending made me cry, Bruins couldbt just get one stop.
The ending to this exciting. Back and forth we went b/w these 2 teams and UCLA had a chance to win it
As a UCLA fan that’s happy for Timme, my heart is gaping for Singleton and Kenny. Tyger froze up badly against Zona in Vegas and then froze up again tonight in Vegas. House of horrors. Tyger and Jaime will play pro somewhere; I wish the same for Nwuba and David 🙏. Thank you so much to all our seniors. I’m sorry it ended like this. But this game will be forever remembered! Thanks for the show!
14 Points, 9 Assists, 2 Steals, 2 Rebounds is "freezing up"?
@kodak green I mean that he missed the free throw against Zona and then didn't even get a shot off and got stripped against Zags. For someone as efficient and careful as Tyger, I'd say something that out of character is freezing up.
Looking forward to Gonzaga in the Big12.
Wow what a clutch shoot in the final seconds
This is why I love march madness
Ik everyone is gonna talk about the Strawther game winner, but the reason UCLA lost was bc they went 11:34 without a field goal, so they went a little over halfway of the second half with making only 6 free throws
Very good point.
Strawther falls asleep on the inbounds play with 1.4 to go. Even so, it was a tough shot but if that shot finds the bottom of the net... you have to play until the clock reads all 0s. I'd make sure to congratulate him on the big shot and coach him on playing hard until the very end
I’m a hopeful Zag fan but sheesh, UConn looks like the best team in the tournament right now.
Gonzago well played❤ love from 🇱🇰
I like both teams, wish they were on opposite brackets.
UCLA absolutely THREW. That scoring drought towards the end of the second half killed them. I had them in the final four ):
I was on the plane back to Spokane with Dan Dickau a seatmate after they beat the Huskies (Washington). Wish I was on a plane with them after they beat the Huskies (UConn).
Incredible game. Go Bulldogs. Hey Jimmy Kimmel they do exist 😅
*Campbell is an awesome point guard!*
Zags in the dying seconds of a game against UCLA just shoot a long ball.
And always make it
@Tristen Rodrigue 🤗swooshhhh
Great start watching the game it was so doing great 👍 enjoyed watching it right now
ucla left too much time on the clock... an instant classic
This has to be Gonzaga's year. Gonzaga all the way!
Yes like any other year
You may not like it. But Timme is what peak athletism looks like
I still don’t understand why they don’t pressure the ball in the last seconds why let them walk into a 3 like that
Nothing you can do about that. The shot went in.
Two words: "Free throws". Remember that when Gonzaga gets eliminated, and I'm a Zags fan. Until then, it's gonna be a dogfight. Almost literally... 🐺🐶
LOL! You can make a half court 3, but you miss a free throw??? Great game!
It was game for the Ages! #UCLA
What a great game
I wasn't expecting my pick for national champion getting knocked out because they score 0 field goals in 12 minutes
Drew Timme is unstoppable
For the Zags to beat Uconn, Timme must have another big game. Alabama is the best team, but Uconn seems to be the hot team in my view right now.
Wow! What a game. The Zags really need to work on their free throws, tho.
Gonzaga playing championship ball ! Im calling it🎉
They flashed a stat that Gonzaga was 0-7 ATS in their last 7 NCAA tournament games🤣
