Ultimate model RANT? Kinetic Sea Harrier FRS.1 1/48 After-build melt-down! (Director's Cut).

- Another look at my 'Mother of all battles' struggle with the Kinetic Sea Harrier FRS.1 1/48 kit that took 12 months to complete...was a modeller EVER more wound-up by (what at first looked like) a seemingly nice kit? 😤😡🤬
This video was previously (unintentionally) spilt into two episodes, but here, it is unified at last!
(Originally filmed Easter 2023, over a year before Sharkey Ward passed away).

Aside from your video being very entertaining, it will be a huge help for anyone "needing" to build this kit. Again, great job on it Peter!
Thanks 👍
My dear bond villain, your rants are of legendary status. Your curses are of lore.
Thank god I checked the description after you said ‘have a great Easter ‘ , I thought I’d entered a time warp instead of the garage to work on my B17😅
Fantastic result on the SHAR Peter 👍🏻
@@Mors_Inimicis You just entered a temporary wormhole in time! 😂 Thanks! 👍🏻😊
There are a number of really good modelling channels, but your videos are always different, fun, and entertaining! Thank you for some original and honest content, and for injecting some clever humor into it.
@@malaudisa Thank you, that is most kind, I am glad they are enjoyable. ☺️👍🏻
Vintage Oxley! This is what we want.
Vintage Taittinger...
I'm pretty sure I have that box art on a book about the Falklands Conflict but this was an original photograph
I don't know which was the funnier, Pete, your Kinetic rant, or Mark Goldbridge blowing up deluxe about Man United getting smashed by Burnley. As Goldbridge would say, "those Kinetic instructions are about as useful as chocolate Easter egg in an oven!" Thanks for a great replay laugh on a beautiful August morning.
I rarely bother with in-box review these days, I'd rather see something like yours, or just a full build video, at least its possible to judge the fit in those.
@@kitbag9033 Yes, pretty, shiny, new things do not always a good model, make! 😕
I've had this kit since close to its release. I was desperate for a better FRS1 than the old Tamiya one. But I've never built it due to all the horror stories about its build issues. You've done a fantastic job.
@@mattsoutherden Thanks Matt...If you use this vid as a guide, you might find it buildable. 👍🏻
Lovely end result on the beast of a kit. Looking forward to the next rant.
@@SMAZVidoes Thank you, that's most kind. 😊
Great job Peter! I've built the Gr.3 but still have this one to do. Can't say I'm looking forward to it but I do love the Harrier!
Good Luck! 🫣
Had this kit on my wishlist since it came out... Shame that I have to skip it. No way I let myself go trough all of this frustration. You just saved me a lot of money Peter, thank you :)
@@pauka13 We really need Airfix to produce a new one...
A RECOMMENDATION FOR YOU :- the AMP KC-10a Extender 1/144........ IN ALL GREY, LOOKS GREAT.
Kinetic kit's are pure evil. 😑You have the patience of a saint!
Tail plane panels, affectionately known as the bacon slicers. 👍🏻
This is going to be as interesting as part one 😄
This is part 1 & 2 combined into a single vid, 👍🏻
Hi Peter. It's a really cool model. 👍
@@goforitpainting Thanks Daniel! ☺️
Hello Jeff, I love this video because you indicated the false. You then stated the correction. Thank you and great modeling. Ray
All your complaints and you have built a fantastic model. You have proven one thing Peter, you can turn a pig into a beautiful swan or in this case a sea Harrier.👍👍
@@michaelnaven213 Thanks Michael! 😊
Shame they didn't have spot the difference at Paris 2024, you could have been the UK athlete!
Peter Peter Ohhh Peter please have some fun in modelling.
I must admit Kenetic being a Chinese company don't have the same value on the customers opinion when it comes to making money they just care about profit but for some reason that Sea Harrier looks a little short in the fuselage mate
The Sea Harrier was about 2.5" longer in the Fuselage than the Land based Harrier and the Kenetic kit just looks like the original Harrier fuselage.
I actually think the 48th scale Airfix Sea Harrier FRS-1 is one off the most accurate airframe models on the market for the Sea Harrier FRS-1 However I like the finished result you got and I hope you believe it was worth all the effort you put in as I think it was.
Peter's summer cottage is floor to ceiling Kinetic Harriers. This rant is to cover up his love of the kit😂😂😂
@@5EyesIsntWatching 🤫😂🤣
'Enjoying' your rant and have a terrible sinking feeling - I have one of these 'gems' in my loft stash! Wondering if I should donate it to some deserving cause . . . I work in the kit industry and I help produce instruction sheets, decoration guides etc for a well know kit manufacturer so I have an intimate understanding of the issues you are raising. The stuff I produce is checked by the supplier to a generally very high standard and the corrections drive me nuts. I go through this pain for guys like you so you can avoid the stress you have encountered with this Harrier build (blood has been spilled!). I am also a kit builder of old, been doing it since I was around 7 years old, I'm now in my late fifties so plenty of experience, none of it quite as bad as yours though! Thanks for your persevearence, I will have to think long and hard before I attempt this (I also have the FRS 2 I think, oh dear . . .)
@@baanibarnes9711 Thanks: For what it's worth, the FA.2 version has slightly better instructions from what I have seen...👍🏻Though still has the parts issues. 😕
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab Not sure I'm encouraged, I still have a life to live! Thanks for your reply.
@@baanibarnes9711Yeah...Life's too short for this one...😖
Peter! No! Stop sticking your hand back in the fire with Kinetic! Now ICM on the other hand is, I feel, an underrated company and puts out jolly good stuff especially considering where the Ukraine is in the state of things. Greeting again from Minnesota, USA.
I am like 'a moth to a flame'!
Not that it matters but the main gear doors should be in the closed position, unless they'd been intentionally opened by the ground crew for maintenance. Also on those Operation Corporate FRS.1s, the EDSG extended all the way into the air intakes, including the conical engine fan surrounds. Very nice build by the way, I'm currently working my way through the same kit at the moment.
@@darson100 Thanks...👍🏻 It's quite confusing on the EDSG as some photos seem to show it all the way and some not, though it's hard to date some of the pics in terms of during the campaign or later. How's the build going? 😜
As an aside I wouldn’t describe Sea Dart as a goal keeper type missile. We had Sea Dart when I was on the Illustrious.
@@chaz01br I was maybe a bit ambiguous there, but by 'Goal Keeper' I meant SEA WOLF...See my more detailed talk on this: th-cam.com/video/DPudgmYH6h4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1QlRUPr5CEZkd2z- and the kit build photos: th-cam.com/video/6ebd1FMCRP0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nTD8q7qHiMMbHxuu
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab that’s fair enough although when I was on 23’s we had vertical launch Sea Wolf which had a longer range. Nice build of what I’d already heard is a terrible kit. I don’t think I’ll get any Kinetic kits.
👍👍
Trouble, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and cauldron bubble... Does that explain the building of the Harrier?
Yes indeed...Like 'The Scottish Play', it's CURSED! 😂
Hi Peter, enjoyed your RANT!
I agree, life is too short to fight with some kits when there are sooo many enjoyable kits out there.
On another topic, I’m interested in knowing if you are going to do a follow up video on your model stash. I know you were asking people to come clean on their stashes and there values, did anyone volunteer that information?
I’m as guilty as most as I’m waiting for my pre-ordered Airfix Mk VIII Spitfire in 1/24 while I have last years Mk IX already unbuilt in my stash.
Why do we do it?
Neil 👍
@@creativetimewasting Yes, one guy in the USA said he had 6k of kits! 🫣
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab I’ve done a rough estimate and I think mine comes it at around £3000!
I do have quite a few Halcyon Alien kits which are quite pricey which bumps it up a bit.
Scary thought is at 54 years old I worry about getting them all built and I still buy more. Crazy.

You obviously haven't had a go at the Tamiya one .. that really is a pig .... Please give it a go .... It is the wrong shape ..too fat .. and they have moulded the intake flaps shut ( they have just scribed them on the intakes) .. of course when a Harrier is on the ground these flaps open and droop .. looks odd with them shut .. to name but a couple of errors

@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab it maybe but it's cheap and gets them into the hobby.
@@garrylum6025 Sorry I must disagree: that is wrong, it was over £73 RRP on release in the UK which is why I was so angry...its probably much cheaper now because everybody knows it's bad, affecting sales...this level of difficulty will probably put 80% off the hobby!
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab the F111 was about 40 AUD but you can found them for 30 at a Salvo store the Ju88 was about 40 aud here.
