These old recordings are real gems ! One can't help but notice the difference in the English choral tradition. I speak as a trained Church musician. The old recordings reveal that the evensongs were sung in a dignified manner dare I say it all sounds terribly posh even the Cathedral clergy.
Which are the chants used? Especially the Psalm 136 chant is wonderful!

Wonderful singing and a magnificent Howells but who is speaking over the humble and meek in the Magnificat? A taxi driver?
