How to balance & sync your carbs in five minutes | Honda CBR600 | Carbtune

  • Balancing (or synchronising) the carburettors on your motorcycle is an important job. Poorly balanced carbs (and fuel injection systems) will cause your bike to run rough, but using the Morgan Carbtune, available from www.carbtune.co.uk, it's a quick and easy job. This video shows the process for a 2000 model Honda CBR 600 FY, but it doesn't matter whether you have a Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki, Triumph, BMW, or any other bike -- a vintage classic, or a modern machine -- the steps are basically the same.

    Most important check before all the hard work, hook all 4 inputs together to check the carbtune measures the same on all four scales from one source.

      giusta osservazione. Carbtune è poco preciso. Per la mia bicilindrica BMW utilizzo un vacuometro DIY fatto di semplici tubi trasparenti Molto, ma molto più preciso. Infatti le regolazioni fatte con Carbtune si sono rivelate errate.

    It's better to sync it at cruise RPM (3000 or so) not at idle as that's where you are driving at it the most. It may result in a lumpy idle from throttles that aren't perfectly matched, and may look and soudn way out of a sync at idle, but it'll have a MUCH SMOOTHER cruise where it counts, vs a smooth idle and a surging or rhythmically popping cruise.. • @StivyIvy
      @StivyIvy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you could just adjust the idle tuner to bring up the idle that high, right? I could take it to a shop and have them do it for about the same price as buying a carb tuner new... not sure ifI should undertake it or just have the shop do it for me.

      @gordonmaclean2826 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @MegaStick93 I'm pretty sure the original poster (@David Andruczyk) is right - you adjust the idle speed to 3000rpm then balance the carbs

    • @gordonmaclean2826
      @gordonmaclean2826 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @MegaStick93 Absolutely - who cares about idling? We want our bikes to have smooth response when we're moving, not when we're standing still

    Tuning and Synchronization are not the same thing. Tuning is setting idle mixture/float height/(maybe re-jetting) to adjust the carbs to meet the fuel needs of a modified or stock vehicle to be started and running without hesitation in the application of throttle. Synchronizing cannot make the vehicle run, but is done on a running vehicle using a reading from vacuum at the engine intakes to determine if each throttle plate or slide is at the same adjustment so that the equal airflow is achieved, which helps with idle smoothness and throttle range smoothness of a properly tuned system. If an engine is idling at e.g. 1000RPM, whether it's running lean or rich according to the fuel adjustments, the cylinder still has a fixed volume of air displacement at each stroke as constant as the RPM remains relatively constant creating vacuum. Even if you Synchronized the carbs on a special make-believe vacuum bench that is exactly like the condition of a running constant motor, you would still have to Tune the fuel screws for those carbs to start a vehicle and run correctly. Is this getting through?

    Can the Carbtune device you featured be used on 1,2 and 3 cylinder bikes also? My 4-wheeler is 1 cylinder, cruiser is 2 cylinders and I'm looking at purchasing a 3 cylinder sea doo .... Just coincidence they're all different!

    • @TheCerden

    • @TheCerden
      @TheCerden 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Gerald Patterson Just fyi though. This syncs carbs, not cylinders. It was a bit misleading. Some 2 cylinder bikes only have 1 carb, no need for it to be synced. This is only if you have multiple carbs.

    • @submissions72
      @submissions72 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Uhhhhhhh what are you going to tune with a single cylinder? You might want to learn what the tool does before you start doing stuff. Carb tuner synchs your carbs. If you got one cylinder there's nothing for it to sync to that's your master. Unless your single cylinder is out of wack for whatever reason, I guess you can kinda tune it.

    • @SuomiNomad
      @SuomiNomad 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you use a DIY or home made carb synchronizer ? If so you didn't do it right. And also your air/fuel mixture could be lean.

      Nuwan Srimal used a diy gague set maybe i didnt set it to the rigt vacum

    • @pbkayakyer
      @pbkayakyer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If your revs don't drop quickly, generally that means you are running lean or you have an intake leak. A carb sync alone would not cause it to run lean.

    GRRR FIRST OFF YOU SAY 3 AN 4 ARE ON THE RIGHT IE FROM CLUTCH SIDE THE LEFT STARTS 1234 THEN START GOING ON ABOUT 1 AN 2 AGAIN BUT THIS TIME ON THE BLOODY RIGHT WHEN YOU START ADJUSTING U PUT THE SCREWDRIVER ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND SAY RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF 1 AN 2 LOL SO WHATS THE RIGHT WAY START 1 TO 4 FROM LEFT OR START FROM 1 TO 4 FROM RIGHT FFS.
